NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Jets are 5-2, baby! But fecking hell our side is proper bashed up. Long injury list getting longer. Lost the superb running back Breece Hall to a cruciate tear, and Vera-Tucker from the offensive line. Both out for the season. Huge losses. We're running out of players just as we're getting it right, tactically, for the first time in years."

Bucks look done today The NFC South looking like the Whistling Dixie Division this season. If the Falcons also lose. Panthers and Saints 2-5 and a game out of first.

"Literally only just heard about mccafrey and cock out. Was watching him last week thinking how much I'd love him in our team. Running based offence who have literally had no running backs through injury for 2 years, get in."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Niners have traded their 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the next draft and 5th rounder in 2024 for Christian MCAffrey of Carolina. The Rams were all in on him too but Niners got their man. He played his college ball at Stanford so he is coming home. Gave up a lot to get him, hope he stays healthy""¶.. But Deebo and mcAffrey with Kittle and Aiyuk is a thing of beauty. Niners still have 3 3rd round compensatory pix in the draft for coaches who left, so we still have draft capital""¶""¶ We are all in on the Super Bowl this year."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
We compare NFL teams to Premier League teams a lot. Not a huge amount in common between West Ham and the Saints except the ability to pile up an injury list. Very decent Saints WR corps built up in the off season - top three out (see West Ham at centre back) Bradley Roby (Lattimore out) covering Chase yesterday allows the latter to break out of disappointing start to the season. (Sound familiar) And yet the Saints are one game out of first place.

Good to see the Bills and Chiefs have a run through of their championship game to see who will go on to get smashed by the mighty Eagles. The Birds are the most complete team in the NFL right now. Happy days.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
What they do have to do is get to grips with the play clock. A fair few times this season teams have got away with the play clock hitting zero before snapping it and been allowed to run the play. The Ravens actually scored on a play last night snapping it at least a second after the play clock hit zero. This is something that should be reviewable by the refs. It's not hard to police it properly and spot infractions.

"Really enjoyed Bills/Chiefs. Likely dress rehearsal for the Championship game. The refs missing that trip was really poor. Wasn't a hard one to see. But what was lovely (being not football) that there was a few seconds of remonstrating from Allen, and he just got on with it. It won't be highlighted by the media for the next 24 hours like a similar thing here would be."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Breece Hall is a fucking class act at RB, too. Picked him up in round 2, yet he was first-round quality. Long way to go, but his cousin - Roger Craig of 49ers fame - would be pleased with his start in the NFL. Jets drafting in the last two years has been excellent. Credit to Saleh, who mostly went 'hands off' (Sauce the big exception) and let Douglas deliver on that."

No skin in the game except for fantasy But how are two officials standing there and not seeing that trip on Allen.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Where Saleh does deserve credit is the improvement to the secondary this season. He and Douglas identified Sauce as their big #1 target in the draft, but he also picked up some hard-hitting and experienced safeties and CBs (Reed, Whitehead etc) in free agency. It has made us tougher on pass defense. By all accounts, Saleh sought those guys."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"The big improvement to the Jets has been on offense. We have a few weapons and ideas these days. It's refreshing after years of abysmal offense. No offense to Saleh, but that's unlikely to be on him. When he fully nails the improving defense - and I hope he does - then we might be a proper contender. Could still go either way this season."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Grump - not so sure it's all Saleh's influence on the Jets just yet. His play-calling is still often bang average. What's changed is the quality of players has gone up several notches. We drafted some really talented youngsters and landed good free agent signings. Zach Wilson has caught fire since coming back from injury. He's mixing it up, hitting good receivers and the running backs are alternating well. By Saleh's own admission, Joe Douglas (GM) nailed the draft (as he did last year) and it is paying off. The defense, supposedly Saleh's area of expertise, is gradually improving, in all fairness, after several false starts (and too many penalties) - so we're moving in the right direction. Right now, I'd say the 'star' of the Jets mini revival has been Douglas and talent like Wilson, Wilson2 and Sauce. But there's little doubt that Saleh is finally stepping up. Can't remember the last time we were 4-2 and looked like we deserved to be 4-2, as well."
