"I loved Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction & Jackie Brown (there may be one I’ve missed) but everything else of how I’ve seen is bloated and self indulgent. I particularly hated Hateful 8 in that style. Said at the time that if Once Upon a Time in Hollywood had been presented as a script by Quentin Bloggs it never would have been made especially not with the actors involved. To me the only interesting bits and any tension were if you knew the Manson story. Otherwise it was too long and self indulgent and a waste of the cast. He obviously doesn’t know any women and seems incapable of writing them as characters That said Margot Robbie did her best with a woefully underwritten part as Sharon Tate. Watched a documentary the other day about Charles Mansons musical ambitions and his dealings with Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys & his idea that the Beatles were prophesying a race war with Helter Skelter so there is a very interesting film to be made rather than Tarantinos revenge fantasy."

"Well after the discussion about ""Once Upon a Time"" below I thought I would try it out tonight. Never been a Tarrantino fan, although I must confess I loved ""From Dusk Till Dawn"", but no this didn't do it for me. Seemed very long as some have said and I couldn't really see the point of it. Very slow, bizarre and whilst you can't fault the acting I personally was very bored with it. Just not my cup of tea."

"""Theres a good film there somewhere but it's an hour overlong"" Again, nail hit on the head. A good mate of mine is a Bafta-winning movie director and his mantra is ""If I cut this will it make any difference to the film""? If the answer is no, out it goes. I could fill a mattress with the cuts I'd make on OUATIH. It's why we make very good films (when we actually make them). The budgets are so restricted it stops any overindulgence. A great example is 'El Mariachi' which was made by Robert Rodriguez, in Spanish, for $7,000 using his mates. It's excellent and grossed $2 million and got him discovered. Then came Desperado, the $7 million English speaking remake which pales in comparison."

"I saw it at the cinema and thought exactly the same. What was the actual point in it all? I did think Brad Pitt was brilliant in it though. And Margot Robbie looked ridiculously good as always. Afterwards I spoke to my mate as I wasn’t really up on all the Charles Manson stuff and it all started to make sense with the alternative ending and so on. I then wanted to watch it again and did recently and thought it was really good. Loads of great scenes and really ‘cool’ as per most Tarantino films. The Bruce Lee scene I thought was brilliant, even the first time around. Although very disrespectful to the great man himself!"

The Lee bit was one of the better bits if the film. Theres a good film there somewhere but it's an hour overlong and so much of it just goes nowhere.

I really liked once a upon a time in Hollywood. I just thought it was a great nod to the cinema of that period and for me the characters were interesting enough to keep my attention throughout. Also I loved the Bruce Lee fight scene!

I came close to giving up as it was just so dull. And I've only ever turned off 2 films ever (slipstream and sausage party). But thought I'd stick with it as it must be going somewhere and all the seemingly pointless.scenes must have been more important than first glance. Nope

I had to give up halfway through on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. That is something I don’t normally do. I think “self-indulgent bollocks” is the same thing I wrote on here after watching it. Anyone who likes this film probably also likes La La Land.

Ad I said I usually like his films. The only other exception being kill bill 2. At various points you can almost hear him speaking the lines. Especially the bullshit about superman's identity.

"""self indulgent bollocks"" Reckon you could say that about all of Tarantino's films since Pulp Fiction. I wish that a) he only wrote additional dialogue and left the plot and characters to better writers and b) he let someone else edit his films, cutting out all the unnecessary shit."
