Much more positive start to the second half. Alvarez seems to be playing a bit further up the pitch.

Think if I was to replace anyone in this game currently it would be Alvarez for Paqueta.

He's getting on the ball a lot but lacks the quality to make anything happen, and Paqueta can evmmbe just as rash in the tackle as he is.

Better 10 minutes than was managed in the first 45

Some good work from Kudus good cross but no one there.

Paqueta for Soucek might improve things if he is deployed to play deeper.  Ferguson looks a shadow of the player that burst on the scene 2 years ago but suspect he will replace Kudus if Newcastle get ahead.

Because of our central midfield deficiencies ( squad lacks legs ) and immobility they are dominating possession, pressing us back and we have no out other than a long punt. Unfortunately, Areola is crap with his feet and we have no target man. So goes straight back to them

I dunno how Potter doesn’t think he needs to make a change
how bad has Soucek got to be in order to get subbed

Doesn't help defense keep passing back to him with the Goeordies pressing. Need some more forward play.

They want to us attack more and we aren't sure.

We both have had our best chances come from breaks.

The good news we have generally kept our shape, the bad news is that is not a great watch.

The lack of movement/runners is hard to watch. We will struggle to score with 8 players who never go beyond the ball.

Alvarez to take off because little things wind him up like that two left bollocks.

Not much to get excited about there. Too casual with possession - hope Potter gives them a rocket for that. Alvarez and Soucek not doing anything like enough. Replace with Paqueta and Irving. Need to get more bodies forward and create some chances. Newcastle look a bit fragile at the back.

This formation isn’t working for us. Granted, it makes us harder to break down, but we don’t offer much going forward. The wing backs have no one on the overlap. We have no focal point up front. We’re not going down so we might as well show some ambition. Get Ferguson and Paqueta on. Take Cresswell and one of Alvarez or Soucek off.

First 10 minutes were encouraging. Nice movement and good flow on the ball. Prowse in the middle is working much better. Tidy player.
Soucek could and should do better alone on goal.

Unfortunately we tend to drop to much.
Scarles, Alvarez and Soucek struggling to get in the game.
Soucek by far the worst, almost ridiculously bad at times.
Should be replaced by Paqueta.

Bit like the arsenal game, they're all over us but can't get through.

What's happened to kudus, he's lost the plot. Just shoot mate.

I'll go against the tide, I reckon we'll smash and grab this .

JWP is struggling to get a foot in, and this game is calling out for Paqueta if only we could count on him not doing a disappearing act. When we're able to break the press, we're showing promise. Donnie Brasco can't keep us in this forever. need a change at the half.

Our squad issues in midfield exposed again. Lack of athleticism, pace, strength means we are unable to play thru or around Newcastle’s high press. Its as simple as that imo.

Soucek is a passenger as he can be against some teams. Like having 10 men.

Yeh we’re miles off them, livremento just ran about 50 yards unchallenged and cut it back to someone in loads of space on the edge of the box.

shame because kudus & Bowen can cause them problems, they’re just too isolated
