May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.
Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?
Window this close season comes in two parts:
Part 1: 1st June to 10th June
Part 2: 16th June to 1st September

For those that like the data analysis side of things, and maybe even those that don't, the first 10 mins of this video are interesting.
These particular data nerds went looking for what we need in midfield but as part of that defined some 'named buckets' based on data and described where our existing midfielders fall:
In recovery (based on recoveries and tackles won)
Waster, Grafters, Wolves, Terriers, Winners
In progressions (based on progressive carries and progressive passes)
In recovery, the only player remotely close to the winner category...Paqueta.
Full video here:
What’s also concerning is the player most likely to receive a bid is paqueta and Sullivan won’t be able to sell him quick enough. Probably to Spurs.

Our issue seems to be that our appalling transfer / recruitment over many years has burdened us with a bunch of central midfielders we are stuck with. Sullivan wont sanction purchase of Potter and Macaulay’s targets before the likes of Guido, Soucek, JWP, Irvine, Alvatez or Paqueta are sold.
We have to accept that some of these players will need to released on season long, loss making loans. Will Sullivan accept this? If he doesnt we are in big trouble next season.
It is critical to get those 2 athletic, young, pacy , energetic central midfielders and also a goalkeeper or the upcoming season is a disaster in waiting. Its that simple.
As has been seen continuously across the Premier League, it's very difficult to shift players you don't want unless someone else in the PL wants them.
Of those players, suspect we'll manage to shift Irvine. He'l be on very low wages, is a good age and now a Scottish international.
The rest will all be on in and around 100k per week. And there's few clubs outside the PL top 10 that are in a position to pay that.
Maybe Alvarez will go since his stock is high from his Mexico exploits and a bigger continental team might be interested. Guido I reckon will go on loan, then get released end of contract. And Paqueta will depend on if he pushes for a move...hopefully he stays as he's the player worth watching for the odd touch of genius.
But JWP and Soucek...can't see them going anywhere. And the manager clearly likes them too. They're hard working, commited personalities who don't ruffle any feathers, easy to manage etc. Both have some value as squad players for the bench IMO, but whilst they remain starters we're in trouble.
Sounds like Sullivan is letting clubs know we have other more affordable options than their over priced creative midfield youngster….

Linked with Michael Cooper from Sheff Utd, I’ve been singing his praises for quite some time. Superb keeper.

What strikers at the best clubs in the Premierleague and Europe might become available for transfer?
There might be hidden gems there
Surely when Musk and the Saudi’s buy the club money will be no object?

How does 2 Championships sides in Leeds and Sunderland, both with smaller grounds than us and a season in the Championship, outspend us. Someone should tell Areola when he has the ball kick as far away as possible.
New GK, new Cb, new Midfield and a striker under pensionable age needed ASAP. So nothing to drastic.
What's the scariest plant in the jungle

It's embarrassing given the financial black holes both those clubs have been in, in the last decade, that they boast more spending power currently than a club two years removed from winning a European trophy and one removed from three consecutive deep European runs.
I guess their owners have decided that running a club with payday loans and using your infallible 'eye for a transfer' your mates desire to line his own pickets and your own with club money to dictate transfer strategy is a fucking shithouse way to run a football club and left us behind in the last century.

Sullivan needs to get Macaulay and Potter targets not indulge his son Jack Jnr
I think it's Dave Sullivan Jnr acting as an intermediary

Sadly my pessimism that we would not do any real business much until August has become reality. Yeah we got Diouf but the critically weak areas of the team from last season have not been addressed ( central midfield, goalkeeper and striker ) so there is no reason imho to expect any real improvements which seems evident from last nights pre season friendly.
Sullivan needs to get Macaulay and Potter targets not indulge his son Jack Jnr in his pretentitious attempt to have a purpose in his life as a football agent, deal negotiator, talent spotter or whatever getting KWP and Wilson qualifies as?
As I see it, we are currently bottom 6 and most definitely relegation candidates. And while I might not think Potter is the answer he cannot be blamed as things stand. He has not been supported by Sullivan. He will blamed when it goes pear shaped of course but this season is clearly Sullivans
Ok Ladysmith. Enjoying your break from giving handjobs in Levy's executive bathroom?
At least twobobfeet has got a bit of healthy competition when it comes to being this biggest prick on this board!
Haven't you got cheese platters to make and creepy whomails to send?

I see that useless cսnt Ferguson has scored again in his 2nd game for Roma by scoring their only goal away against FC Kaiserslautern pressing quick from the front.
Probably agreed terms with Roma in January? in the meantime west ham paid the wages while he rehabbed his injury and grew man boobs.

Has anyone noticed the similarity between last years 3 headed transfer window and this year? Last year 3 for Steidten, 3 for Lopetegui and 3 for our beloved majority shareholder.
This year, with the usual mouthpieces leaking like worn out incontinence knickers we have:
Young talent and unheard of players - Potter and Macaulay.
Big names with absolutely no chance of signing for us, including those who definitively rejected any advance before it got off the ground (Rios, Gomes as examples, not an exhaustive list). These will fit neatly into the tried hard and worked tirelessly narrative due at the end of the window. Sullivan?
The usual suspects not likely to trouble the upper reaches of the premier league Walker-Peters, Wilson, Brownhill, etc. Sullivan?
Cynic or realist?
Whilst Sullivan remains in charge, it will always be that way.
He's completely unable to recognise his own shortcomings, is quite clearly 'on the make', and places no value or worth in his managers, as proven by the fact he's not prepared to spend a penny to obtain one.
When it comes to actual signings, aside from extracting funds from club coffers to his own (alledged) via Salthouse and/or Silkman, he's got this unshakeable belief in his own ability to 'pick a player'. The attitude of a gambler with too much money, an inferiority complex that seeks him to want shiny, ostentatious things, and a mindset that belongs back in the 70s.
So hoping for anything else during transfer windows with him at the helm is like hoping that the relentless stream of 'take our country back' Threads in Off Topic might cessate. It's clearly not going to happen, and it's only with concerted efforts from those that have an interest in a different way of doing things that anything will ever change, and in the meantime batten down the hatches and deal with what comes.
And lastly...the blame is just as much on Kretinsky, Tripp Smith, Gold's daughter, and whoever the other main shareholders are....Sullivan has the largest stake, but not the majority stake. If they all wanted to push for the decrepit 76 year old fossil to have less control, then they could. But clearly they aren't interested as long as the Premier League gravy train continues to roll into town.
So unitil then, THIS is the West Ham Way. At the hands of this Welsh waste of skin.
The way I see it, if you owned 20% of shares in Fluminse FC of Brazil, and it paid you a dividend of 10% every year, would you really give a shit who they were buying or what the chairman was doing? As long as you got your money you're good. I dont spend my evenings looking at how any company I have shares in is operating. Who really cares?
I suppose we cant ask for more from people that if we were in their position, would act just the same. Which is why the PL should regulate shareholder behaviour. Football clubs represent the community and our country so I do think the govt should ensure that club owners demonstrate they are operating in a clubs sporting and community interest before financial concerns. Just like the board of a company have a legal duty to maximise profits for shareholders, there should be something similar for sports clubs.
They should be audited and be asked is it in the sporting interest of a club to buy a 35yr old injury prone striker from an agent friend who has scored 1 goal in a year?
Football clubs used to be owned by people from the community or at least businessmen that cared about sports. Mainly because there wasnt that much money in it. Now in the PL era there is a tremendous amount of money being made and siphoned out by various "entities".
It's not going to stop I suppose. You just hope you get lucky that someone wants to buy a club because they have something to prove or sees value in winning beyond money (even then thats usually sports washing etc).
It's all a bit fucked. Sometimes you get a manager who knows all thats going on above them is bollocks but still loves the game and just wants to do well beyond the money. I hope Potter ends up being that kind of guy.
So unitil then, THIS is the West Ham Way. At the hands of this Welsh waste of skin.
Guess that makes me a realist then?

David Sullivan is NOT East End. He was born in Wales. Lived for a while in Hornchurch but he’s no East Ender
