Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)

Post maverick180 »

I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season

Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit

We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge

But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

if Moyes wasn’t kept on for finishing 9th and playing boring football, why is this cսnt being allowed to put us in a relegation battle whilst playing the most boring football I’ve ever seen us play
Especially with no credit in the bank...unlike Moyes

Agreed. The bloke clearly can't make this work. Sooner he's gone the better. There is zero sign of improvement.

In a word, Sullivan.
YES one hundred percent. Until he goes we'll be doomed to repeat poor decisions at the top. Clueless Ownership → Underwhelming Manager →  Average Signings → Poor results

waste of time signing Summerville and Todibo
apparently Todibo has a knock.

Summerville vs Soler/Paqueta is the odd one. Lets hope Paqueta repays the faith put in him.

Scarles is a quality player
rated by our youth set up as the player most likely to make it

unfortunately he hasn’t got a chance in hell under this cretin in charge as he’ll always put Cresswell above him as for some reason he can’t tell when a player is completely shit

Is Olly Scarles ready for the left sided centre midfielder role? He must be around 19 now, surely he can give that area a bit of mobility and zip. He can certainly pass a ball from what I can gather.

Personally think Kudus at 10 under Lopetegui would be hopeless.

He's not creative, doesn't pass, and is basically a dribbler. If he was a more diligent worker defensively or positionally, I could see him as an 8 carrying the ball from midfield, but he's not shown that, so wide is where he's suited frankly.

I personally think the manager's setup is simply not suited to the way he plays, and he's a much better player on the counter than he is in a team looking to use the ball in build up.

The same is pretty much true for Paqueta and Bowen. Paqueta needs space in behind to play weighted through balls, as well as runners....his best moments for us having been like the goal he setup for Bowen vs Fiorentina. Bowen is a better goal scorer than provider, again best running into space.

Unless Lopetegui alters his use of these three players to find a way to better maximise their strengths, we'll continue to understand achieve.  Bowen has shown he can adapt (all be it by being less effective).  Kudus and Paqueta so far have shown little signs of either ability or willingness to adapt their games...continuing to play risky balls, rather than maintain simple possession, and shifting the ball waiting for an opening....always playing direct.

If we'd signed Klopp, or a manager who plays high octane direct football, I think they'd be doing very well. But we haven't.

Not really sure what or who the answer is but at this point if Lopetegui is to stay, I'd look to sell Kudus in January and move Paqueta to the left wing, where he can look to be directly creative in a less damaging way than centrally.

I don't know, it seems to be a theme at our club that you can play shit every week and just keep getting picked like it's a Sunday morning league and the manager is your mate. Fancy he might finally get left out today, but who knows. This is a player that has only ever had about 10 good games for us, like ever, but bizarrely has cult status with some, for me he's a fraud.

I think we might have missed a trick not going for Smith-Rowe, then again he probably would have been shit here.
Totally agree. The samba dancing, play acting, diving, possession losing show pony is a total fraud. I firmly believe he only gets a 'pass' and has 'cult status' amongst some of the more moronic, hard of thinking elements of our fan base because he is Brazilian. And that song they sing about him is UTTTER CRINGE.

Smith-Rowe is a good shout. Shame we lost out to him to Fulham, a smaller club managed by a manager who actually knows what he's doing.

ive said that a million times on this thread
what I said about Mavropanos was that he’s played in that position for stuttgart
whether he’d be any good in that position for us I don’t know.
You might not know, but I do, he'd be fucking hopeless. Clearly.

I never fucking said we should be playing Mavropanos in midfield
I clearly stated I would play Paqueta there
move Summerville to the left and then play kudus as the 10

whether he’d be any good in that position for us I don’t know, but the point I was making is we have other options other than Rodriguez who is painfully slow, constantly out of position and can’t pass the ball furth than 5 yards
But our manager thinks he’s a great player and won’t try anybody else there
he’s played every game and he’s been consistently toilet

It's hard to have any enthusiasm for the games now. Especially when you know certain players will start no matter how poor they've been. Only that midget cսnt could have prolonged this miserable fucking football with yet another clown in charge

We don't buy agility or pace...

Our centre midfielders have good water carrying attributes but they all have the turning circle of an oil tanker.

Also, under our chairman the fullback positions have been criminally neglected - he regards spending proper money there like the compensation for a proper manager but I do like Wan Bissaka. As for the striker position that has become a surreal joke at this stage. It's beyond the pale. Duran looks good but so does Delap at Ipswich and he was half the price.

Still, it would be just like us to turn over Man U today...

He made the exact right team selection in those game, and we’re basing that on the fact we won them

Jesus fucking Christ

goose has opened to the idea of healthy debate of which I ain’t gonna have a dig at the bloke
you’re just talking utter shit
we won so all is good

e.g. Man City would beat Crystal Palace and Ipswich with a broom playing up front instead of Haaland

does that mean the team selection is great?

It means he got the selection right for the maximum return of points/getting through to the next round, which cannot be argued.

I think it's only you that us expecting perfection in every game since the start of the season, that's evidently clear as you already made your mind up after just 1 game based on 1 Team selection when we narrowly lost late on to the high flying Villa under Emery. Some of us are actually more realistic in our expectations considering how much has changed in personnel at the Club with the new Coach only being here for a handful of months. Fuck knows why he hasn't suddenly come to the conclusion he should be playing Mavropanos at the heart of our Midfield as it's a real fucking mystery he hasn't realised that either.

Theres no way we’re gonna experiment with mavrapanos in midfield.

Ings, I'm actually with Maverick on and have called for him to start more often myself, including in tomorrow's fixture.

But Mavropanos should be starting in Midfield to help solve our Midfield issues out, when he struggles to get to grips in the Premier League in his specialist Centre Half position because he once played some games there in the Bundesliga?? Hahahaha!

And to think Maverick had the nerve to criticise a proven successful winning Coach about not playing our best players in their best positions..  Fucking magic.
