"The Birmingham ""bankrupcy"" thing is quite clearly a politically motivated reds seeing a chance to stick it to the blues (and I don't give a fuck which one is ""your"" side). The council could easily have negotiated a phased levelling up policy with workers/their unions on back-pay that kept spend within their budget. Would have been marginally more expensive in the long term but at least they'd not need to cut services (residents have already paid their council taxes for)."
