"We made 8 changes (9 if you include Benrahma) from our first choice team. We had 72% possession throughout the game but couldn't finish as they defended deep but we found things out about our reserves.. Ings proved once again that he is just not up to the lone striker role. Kudus was on his first game and finding his feet early on but improved. Benny had one of his indifferent starts but also woke up later on. Pablo Fornals is mentally already back in Spain. Our defence didn't have too much to do but Mavropanos looked useful, Oggy was good until he fluffed his audition. Cresswell was poor and didn't look fit from the start. Kehrer? No wonder Germany are in trouble if he's played 27 games for them. Clearly there's a lot to do in January and next summer if we are to ever challenge top 4..."

"Got the job done in the end, although not very convincingly. Too many players had stinkers, Fornals was dreadful on the ball. Ogbonna looked old and sluglish. Ings is just shit aint he, game passes him by so easily. One of the most disappointing signings in recent years, Villa pulled our pants down with that one. JWP was fantastic, Dino i thought had a very good debut aswell. Tempted to put him in on sunday for Aguerd. Kehrer got in some great positions but decision making in final 3rd was terrible. How many times did he get the ball wide of the box and first touch was miles back inside and lost it? Kudus shows glimpses, the issue with him is he needs a run of games I think to settle but with Bowen there where do you play him to get that run of games? Other issue we have is we're so used to playing on the counter when we do have a bit more of the ball and have to break teams down sometimes we struggle. Amount of times that first half we just cross the ball to 5ft 7 Danny Ings rather then trying to get in behind down the sides. We dont stretch teams with forward runs in behind enough."

We will see how good a result it was once the other two teams have played them. It would be nice to get through a game without someone making a clanger that costs us a goal. What stood out for me is our inability to create chances when we have more possession. Especially without Antonio on the pitch.

"I will say, I really felt for Pablo last night, he was gutted at coming off. Moyes needs to manage him better. The guy is a workhorse."

"Great result. Thoroughly enjoyed the game, we bossed most of it. They had 30 minutes in which they really got into the game, once we equalised that was it. I did get a bit frustrated in the first half hour as I felt we were too wishy washy with our play. But in the end we won 3-1. We are top of the group."

"So is that 15 wins from 16 with the 1 being a draw , either way its close to that , some record we are laying down and going right under the radar as the press cream over Brighton n all."

"Cracking result considering we went one down and seemed to shit ourselves for 15 minutes afterwards. Unbeaten in Europe in how long? That’s an amazing thing for me to say in my lifetime. Liked the look of Dinos. Seems willing to get stuck in and wears a gum shield! I fucking love / hate Benny. So frustrating but can produce magic. Hate the fact that after all that money spent, we still don’t have a back up for Antonio that can play in Moyes’ system. If he gets injured, we’re fucked. Would love to see Mubama or Kudus get a game against Lincoln in the Antonio role. Love Paqueta, he’s our best player, but thought he gave the ball away quite a bit tonight, and a fair bit this season. But then I guess that’s what happens when you’re always trying to make something happen. I’d like to see Cornet get a run out against Lincoln. I’m guessing he’s fit, so would like to see what he can do with a start. Most likely get found offside, but still want to see if he could be a good squad player. JWP - I didn’t want anything to do with him at 45 million, but if he keeps this up, even that price would seem like a bargain. No wonder Moyes wanted him so badly. So many goals are going to come from set pieces this year, just the way he likes it!"

"One of the reasons we all love football (well, in my case, West Ham, other than at world cups football generally can go and fuck itself) is that it can always surprise you. I was a lot happier on Saturday coming away from the LS having lost 1-3 than I was tonight having won by the same margin. Football can be FUCKING strange."

"A bit of a roller coaster tonight wasn't it? A great first 20-25 minutes when it was all West Ham but after that they grew in confidence and started putting us under pressure. ironically it took tehir goal to shake us out of our complacency and ultimately a good result, always good to drive the 60 miles home when we've won! COYI's"

"I felt that we were complacent and thought we'd roll them over with little effort. Them scoring gave us a needed kick up the arse, after which we put them to the sword. Kudos did well and will only get better. For a shortie he got up well to head in his.goal. JWP is proving to be an incredible signing. Emerson is growing on me after a slow start to his WH career. A massive upgrade on Creswell, though I think he's done a great job for us over many years. Zorba the Greek looked comfortable and I'm sure he'll chip in with a few goals. Yes, Paquetta gave away possession a few times, but the man is always looking for an exquisite pass, like the one against Fiorentina. Ings is a waste of space and needs shipping out asap. I always thought is was an odd signing. Top of the group and we remain unbeaten in Europe for two years. Lots to be happy about."

"Come on, let's not dress this up. We played poorly against one of the worst pub teams we've ever met at the LS tonight. The only two positives I can draw are that they weren't Astra Zenica and the Greek kid who made defending look like the easiest job in the world. Oggi slipping in the pissing rain doesn't automatically make him a liability either when looking at the squad holistically. He remains a great servant and a terrific defender."

"BillyJenningsBoots 1:31 Fri Sep 22 Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Backa Topola - Official Match Thread - PREVIEW You don‚Äôt think you‚Äôre just coming across as needlessly moany then? I mean his style of football IS the most effective we‚Äôve had in 43-years. Certainly poor last year but good this, sixth and seventh finish, Europa league semis and winners of the Europa conference. Historically. On our terms, he‚Äôs been remarkably successful with his brand of football. I wasn;t optimistic about this season and he certainly should have gone had he started badly, but he‚Äôs not and we‚Äôve looked very good on the whole."

"We got there in the end but fuck me at times we make hard work of it and WTF was Oggy thinking? Still its done and dusted, 3 points in the bag, onwards and upwards.....COYI Just seen Brighton's group in the Europa, they may well struggle to get out of that! lost at home to AEK Athens and the other 2 sides are Ajax and Marseille, both seasoned European campaigners who regularly play in the CL! Brighton may well find themselves either out all together or in the Conference by the end of the group stages?"

Swindon fuck off.... It's not the stats it's the style of play 20% possession suggests anti football dull painful and depressing its just not they way some of us football fans would like us to play and has proved in the vast majority of Moyes's games to not be very effective.

"Thought Mavropanos had a very good debut… I reckon he will be an excellent player for us and it won’t be long before he’s a first choice CB. Paqueta was both fantastic and frustrating, giving the ball away too often. If he can cut that out of his game he will be one of the most effective midfielders in the league. Kudus had a good start and will take a while to come up to speed but there is some player there."

"Not dissimilar to last season's 3-1 win over FCSB on dead queen day. Didn't start so well, gave away a goal then after a few changes won the game game comfortably. Brighton and Villa fucked it up tonight, Liverpool (like is) got there in the end. We have the experience that few other clubs except the likes of Liverpool have"
