Getting Old...

Post ray winstone »

"Lads, peeing once a night isn't great, twice is an inconvenience, 3 times is a fooking nightmare! 'Enlarged Prostate' they tell me, now on Tamurex tabs, anyone else on these? Do they work? Come on chaps, it's good to talk......"

When you hit 60 the NHS think you are in instant danger of death. First thing I had to do was poo in a box and post it back. Then my GP's surgery (naughty nurse type) wanted to inspect my bodily functions (actually my favourite fantasy) They gave us free prescriptions (Fortunately not required) Mention the Dig C and they crop everything. It's bloody marvellous getting old if only I didn't need to void myself half way round every circular walk

"joyo 5:11 Thu Nov 2 If that's what you need to believe, I can live with it. Still miles better that living in a piss-stinking, rat-infested abandoned Upminster lock-up squat as you do though. Got a picture of the under-age Cambodian raspberry you fucked on the wall, have you? Just to prove to the council rat-catcher, when he comes again, that you're a ""real"" man, like."

"If you're on medication for hypertension/high blood pressure, some of those drugs have a severe diuretic effect as they attempt to get the fluid out of your body/bloodstream. Not wanting to distract from the severity of the original post, you may find, if you're on hypertension medication, that changing such medication helps - my first hypertension medication had me pissing like April showers every 2 hours. Mentioned it to my doctor, a change of prescription and the pissing problem is no more."

"I have to pee at least twice a night which is annoying. However, even more annoying is that when you actually pee the amount that comes out is usually is small. I think its psychological, i now try not to drink anything after 9pm and has helped somewhat as occasionally i might only pee once."

"In my early 30's I worked opposite a guy in his 50's. The loo door was behind me, and I always heard him walk behind me doing little farts as he approached the door, as though he'd left it a little too late. How I laughed. Now I'm in my my 50's it's not so funny!"

"Not looking really concerned, like I said not paranoid but just thought I might just do it as a box tick type of thing, a bit like bothering, or not, to go to the dentist for a check up."

"Manuel - go get it if you're concerned, it's more awkward than anything else, it's better than the alternative. Though haven't had mine examed for years, but they did test blood and urine. My symptoms have lessened and I take a supplement from Holland & Barrett but really couldn't say if it makes any difference."

"I piss a lot, but not paranoid as such, I did read that it can be just a habit. I tell what I will NOT be doing though, and that is going to a hospital hanging around for a few hours, getting a steep bill, just to be told that they can't see any problems, because that is EXACTLY what will happen. I've thought about having the finger up the arse prostrate test one day, apparently it's a good idea to have it once you have Hawaii 50, but it fucking terrifies me."

"Ailments will hit you at any age but much more likely as you get into your second half century. I have a number of mates who have had cancer and have come through so far. I pee more often at night if I've drunk plenty of fluid before going to bed, generally beer but I don't bother about it. I get a regular health check up and a blood test regularly after you're 60 helps to identify anything early. I had 5 pints last night at the footy and was a bit rough this morning."

"Sorry to hear about the ailments, lads. There’s a lot of toxicity around this site these days that go beyond acceptable ribbing and banter. Threads like this reminds me that there are a lot of good folk on here who share common concerns. Good to share, as OP says. Well done, Ray, for opening this up."

I’m 63 soon and I normally get up to pee twice in the night . I drink four or five pints of beer a day though so that may have something to do with it.

"Sorry to hear about your troubles. I've noticed unwelcome changes due to getting old. I can't drink more than a glass or two of wine or I get such a rotten hangover it really isn't worth it. I'm not going grey yet, but my fingernails are weak as feck these days and I can't see anything in low light."
