"when you're missing two players who can make something from nothing, you will very likely be left with nothing. a point is a blessing. people who admire moyes for what he has done with players like paqueta, bowen and kudus need to think long and hard about how much more someone else could do with them."
Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Brighton - Official Match Thread - Preview
Atmosphere was as dire as the game last night. I suppose they both go hand in hand.
Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Brighton - Official Match Thread - Preview
"69% Possession for Brighton away from home? Its been the same all season. When did we last get 69% possession home or away? Or anywhere near? Moyesball is not worth the time watching because the stats prove with Moyesball we are only able to see our team play with the ball for one third of the matches most of the time. The rest of the time you just watching us defend and due to balance of probabilities normally concede one or more at some point. Moyesball soul destroying to watch, how anyone travels and pays? Fair play? Moyesball has begun forcing me more often to just watching the 5 minutes highlights. Did I say I can't stand the miserable negative bugeyed cսnt. I'm starting to watch just the few minutes highlights"

"I'm trying to come up with positives from last night but the only one I can really think of is that we didn't lose to our bogey Brighton side, although if it hadn't been for some woeful finishing and Areola they could have had four or five. It certainly showed our threadbare squad and how weak we are without the likes of Paqueta and Kudus and even Coufal is a shoe in in our main starting 11 although I thought Johnson was ok. Even so once again Moyes showed his true intent with his substitution taking off Benny instead of Pablo as others have mentioned. To be fair neither were playing particularly well but Pablo is the more defensive of the two and that's how Moyes prefers it. Again as others have said if you are going to defend then at lease have pace up top so Cornet would have seemed the more threatening option on the counter, maybe he and Kehrer had too much to drink in the open top bus celebrations last year and cut the toes off Moyes socks or something. Some of these players really seem to get into his bad books. Bowen is not the answer up front, no matter how many times Moyes says it. He is far better for the team on the right if for nothing else that he gets the ball more there. How you deal with that when Kudus plays as well I don't know, maybe swap them over right and left but neither are long term options up front, and sadly neither is Mubama. Yes he is young and may well improve but at the moment he isn't the answer."

Totally agree. To serve up that shit game after game and some want him here to the late 2020's. incrediblle. to not use more than one sub is criminal and what those youngsters must think. Expect him to throw the game against the Mighty BRISTOL CITY

"A fantastic display of battling against a gargantuan steamroller of a football club. £450mil spend, to have a large chunk of our fans THRILLED That we can't win a fucking home game against injury decimated BRIGHTON when we're missing just 2 players (let's not pretend the cripple & the keystone cop at the back are big misses) Is that what we are? 2 fucking players after near half a billion spend? Brighton could've won 0-6 last night and no one could complain. Thank fuck the keeper had another worldy. What happens if Paqueta gets found guilty in the next few weeks & Kudus gets injured at the AFCON? According to some of you, we're not allowed to win games without them. Some of you lot are happy to write off games at home against mid table teams, without even trying to win, fucking disgraceful cunts. You're not proper West Ham, fucking mugs."

"The one stark difference from last night to recent weeks is where previously despite playing the same way you would always fancy us to score, but not last night, we were never scoring and we all know the two reasons why. It just go to show that it's players that win games of football, not systems."

Would happily have taken that result after seeing the line up. Good battling display. Now let’s spend some money.

"Sorry, the wife was watching a soap, not a sitcom. And taking the piss out of that was a lot more fun than watching last night’s travesty of a football match."
Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Brighton - Official Match Thread - Previ
"Why do people think it’s only the results that matter? Yes on paper a draw with Brighton would be fine. When it’s a wide open game and the manager decides to shut up shop rather than try to win is the issue. The football is dreadful however rosey you think 6th place and 34 points is. Grinding out results against the better teams is fine, but do people really think the only way we can beat teams like Burnley, Sheffield United, Luton etc is to play the same shit style? At the bottom end, it’s probably the weakest premier league in history. At the top end its one of the most open its ever been. We absolutely should be in the mix for 6-10th. We shouldn’t need to play backs to wall football to achieve it."

"wd40 11:30 Wed Jan 3 What the fuck are you on about? Learn your football. Embarrassing comment. We get a 0-0 draw at home to a team depleted with injuries and surrender 70% possession to them and have only two shots on target. And you are happy with that? Fuck me. I always thought the 'Cult of Moyes' was a myth but last night and today I am actually seeing that it does exist. 0-0 on paper against Brighton is not end of the world. But you have to look at the finer detail and the context. The performance was a fucking disgrace. A team totally handicapped by their managers insistence on not conceding a goal. Brighton had 11 injuries and they played expansive, positive, attacking play and deserved to win that game easily. We on the other hand stumbled about on the ropes looking like a punch drunk old bum who is hanging on for the final bell. Hands up around his head, bobbing and weaving, just trying to fend off the killer punch. And then we have a manager that comes on for his interview with a smile as wide as the Thames, telling the world how happy he is with the point and the performance. Even saying (and I quote) ""Brighton were great. They really played well. So we had to dig in. And when Tommy missed that chance I thought to myself, 'we'll have to look for the point'. These are the actual words he said. As if it was our youth team playing Real Madrid. Brighton had 11 players out. We had five. Two of which are CB's which easily replaced. But as soon as Paq and Kudus are out its like we are back to Harry's bare bones. Run to the fucking hills! Backs to the walls! man the pumps! We're all doomed! Last night was a fucking embarrassment. Second half was like a training match for Brighton. A fucking elderly Milner playing at LWB due to injuries, not put under pressure once. Lewis Dunk out and we make no impact in the air. De Zerbi looked totally fucked off. Simply not able to believe they hadn't beaten the shit show in front of them. Literally speechless the bloke was. Bad luck, but if you don't take your chances and all that. But that's the difference in mindset. A manager that does away from home with a depleted squad and plays to win and EXPECTS to win. Moyes on the other hand..... I tell you honestly, if last night's performance doesn't unsettle you as a West Ham fan then I literally do not know what planet you are on. I need some of what you are smoking if you can just right that off as 'everyone gets a 0-0 draw'. In fact, I'm actually quite jealous of your composure."
Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Brighton - Official Match Thread - Previ
"Said the same thing Rossal, cheer about what last night? When we created a bit towards the. End of the first half the volume increased. What the fuck would you be cheating for on the second half. It was shocking."
Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Brighton - Official Match Thread - Previ
"God knows how that ended 0-0, never seen so many big chances missed by both sides On paper its a good point when we have a few missing, but when you look at their side and how bad certain players of theirs were the game was there to be won if we had shown a little ambition and coaching in how we play Moyes I thought should have made subs earlier, and then make the right subs......aswell as reacting to some tactical situations Fornals should have come off instead of Benny, Benny i actually thought was doing alright.....certainly hinders our chances of winning the game taking him off and putting Fornals LW. Must be 50 games now he has been dumped LW and done fuck all in Thought Moyes should of taken off Johnson and Soucek last 10-15......they were fucked and were passengers. What is the point of the kids being on the bench if he is never going to use them? Might aswell save on their petrol. If he wont blood in a youngster to be better than Soucek then we're fucked in ever wanting to achieve anything. The bloke must be one of the worst passers in the league and him being picked every single game is a massive reason why we don't have more than 25% possesion. Also thought Moyes should have seen how bad Milner was at LWB and target that area. Fornals RW was pointless against him......let Cornet have a run at him for most the 2nd half. As it turned out Bowen got put there absolutely fucked and Milner last 10 was one of their main outlets to attack. I certainly lean towards we are 6th despite Moyes rather than down to him. You can't tell me there isn't a few managers out there that can play a more attractive brand of football with this squad and be no worse off in the league Final point was talksport on way home few fans moaning about how dead the atmosphere was in there. I know the trains had a major part but hardly much to shout about in there is there. We hardly touch the ball, and when we do its 4 or 5 passes sideways and backwards then Areola pumps it out towards Johnson......he flicks it to their defence then we all run back to the edge of our box to defend. It's shite to watch, and shite to get behind the team. Get the ball down, bit of tempo and forward running and go at teams. That will get the fans going."

"dealcanvey giving credit to hanging on when you are 6th deserves nothing but ridicle. This is what all the Moyes lovers will endure when we lose the like of Paqueta and Kudus. It;s utter bewilderment and farcical. Your're dening yourself that fact that you are wrong about Moyes. This is what you will get. We need PAQUETA,KUDUS AND BOWEN to have 9/10 performances every week plus a blinder by the keeper and a couple of defenders. Moyes is a more than a dinosaur he's one of the first amoebas to enter the earth. We're going to lose players because they won't accept this. The youth will want gone as they will go from a brilliant attacking team to sitting on the bench game after game."

"I see that as last night’s proceedings drew to a weary close, many seem to have started masquerading as empty seats. Clearly the prospect of an earlier return home and start at work the next day seemed a more engaging prospect than watching events in the ground. And I noticed that I had also withdrawn my attention - there was more fun to be had winding up the wife with snide remarks about events in the evening’s sitcoms. Faced with the choice of accepting your team was clearly out to run down the minutes, I felt it was best to disengage. And I don’t think I was alone because it takes a special kind of perversity to call that entertainment."

So basically this is what its come to. Playing rope-a-dope football against a depleted Brighton team. Fucking utter turgid football last night. 6 attempts at goal - 2 on target and 30% of the ball. No wonder the stadium was quiet. People are just fucking bored.

"Ok we had some key players missing but Brighton had more. They played the right way. We seemed delighted to sit back and hang onto a point at home to a poor Brighton side. Don’t get me wrong, Brighton played well because we let them have the ball. Defensively I thought we were very good. Areola solid as was Johnson surprisingly."
Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Brighton - Official Match Thread - Previ
"Capitol Man 2:25 Wed Jan 3 Ok, I’ll play. Our wins this season: Chelsea, Brighton, Luton, Sheffield Utd, Forest, Burnley, Tottenham, Wolves, Man Utd, Arsenal. Of those, only really Wolves and Sheffield United were very convincing, and even the latter was drab. The rest are a mixture of one goal margins, some via last minute winners, and others clinging on for dear life. The Arsenal game as I’ve said was admirable. The Spurs game they should have been out of sight, and Man Utd was just ok against a team that loses a hell of a lot. The only win that was from attractive counter attacking was Brighton away. Our defeats (Man City, Liverpool, Villa, Everton, Brentford, Fulham) have been largely batterings. The two that weren’t were a consequence of negative tactics - Brentford and Fulham. Our draws (Bournemouth, Newcastle, Palace, Brighton) are all a consequence of the bland tactics, two of which we were ahead in, one we equalised at the death and the less said about Brighton the better. I accept we’ve accumulated an impressive points total by hook or by crook, but don’t make out we’ve done so by playing some dreamy counter attacking football. The expectation is low, I don’t expect to win most games, but my point remains that if you’ve ground out a decent points tally, you have the platform to attack other games such as Everton, Brighton, Brentford, Palace etc and see just how good a season it could be."
