Transfer Deadline Day | Summer 2024

Post stubbo-admin »

Who do you think will leave? Anyone to come in?

Zouma looks gone. Cornet likely.

Aguerd and Ings probably need to be gone if we're to go big on another striker. Surely if Zouma and Aguerd are off we need a 4th choice CB.

Soler and Duran the most talked about and probably the 'dream'. Chelsea firesale to take place?

Anyway...here we go! Don't go to bed! DG (RIP)

If it is Matip or Egan then give Casey a go. Hard to dismiss Hummels though, he was immense last season but can't imagine him happy to be '4th choice' after starting in a champs league final a few months back
Maybe he'd be OK with it if the alternative was not playing at all.

By all accounts he's a massive cսnt and disruptive in the dressing room.

Might be Matt Hummels. According to reports he's Tim's preferred option as Matip is injury prone....

Matip who has been out with an ACL and has a worse injury record and three years older than Zouma.. Not for me... But looks like it's happening.

We are best letting Casey be 4th choice then bringing in Matip aint we?  What is the point of banging on about youth and how good a crop they are if we won't let one of the better ones be 4th choice CB.

Matip hardly played last season, will he add much?

Assuming we bomb out the cup at Anfield its only league games to worry about till January where if needed we can add reinforcements but for the time being promote and encourage the younger lads. It is good for their development and shows the pathway to the first team for the rest of the academy

I see there is rumour we are in negotiation for a free transfer?

Matip? Aged 33 but injury prone for CB cover? Or perhaps the mardy Frenchman Antony Martial, aged 28 as another central striker option that is quicker than the 3 old men we have?

Not sure which other free agents are available but these 2 might be worth a punt although Martial might upset squad harmony as he is allegedly not so much a “punt” but a similar sounding word? 🤭

JWP for me was a bit of a let down. Highly rated before he signed and high rated still amongst the pundits. Give me a 'Lanzini' type of player over JWP any day.

For someone so good at dead ball deliveries, I was always surprised at how poor JWP’s open play crossing was

JWP started well with goals & assists (but no free kick goals) but was pretty ineffective in the second half of the season.
No pace & not someone who wins the ball or holds it in midfield. Him + Soucek contributes to <30% possession

Aguerd didn’t want to be here but with him & Zouma going I thought we would need a 4th centre back behind Kilman, Todibo & Mavro. Might be relying on Casey to step up

Trouble for me with JWP was he just didn't do anything in open play really well.
  • 5/10 for creativity and playmaking
  • 5/10 for defensive positioning and tackling
Plus he has no pace. Plenty of industry and willing, but just doesn't dictate the game in anyway or affect the opposition, and we have other suitably good corner takes (plus get so few direct free kicks).

Glad he's gone. Don't want him or Soucek as starters, but Soucek clearly comes on and affects the game more.

Would have personally kept JWP and Aguerd although maybe JL sees someone like Alvarez as cover at CB.  Must confess Todibo didn't instil a lot of confidence last week although early days obviously.  JWP seems a bit of an enigma.  Mate who is a Southampton fan raved about him when we bought him and was gutted he left the Saints but he didn't pull up any trees although playing in a two with Soucek didn't help him!

We’re a Killman or Emerson injury away from being in trouble defensively.
and still relying heavily on Antonio.
I kind of agree. I'd maybe go a 7 given the huge amount of surgery required. We had a about 7 viable first team players left behind by Moyes you,'d want to build anything around, and missed out on 85m coming in from Paqueta.
Shifting all the shit, maintaining the home grown quota, and getting in 18 new senior players for a full squad was always mission impossible.
Think it's only fair to judge the outcome with the circumstances, and I'd say Steidten has done a good job in difficult ones, but not executed flawlessly either, with Duran the obvious bollock-drop.

I see on the bbc site Cornet was confirmed at 10 past midnight followed by Nelson, Broja, Sterling & Sancho

So … we got Soler & moved out Aguerd, Cornet & JWP on loan. Ideally their agents sort out permanent moves for them now in January or next summer

I don't understand the Nketiah move. Thought he was one of Arsenal's more competent strikers and is still just 25. 25 million seems like a bargain, although checking his stats, those are a bit thin. Must have just been us he was scoring against.
