Gambling shirt sponsorships to face the regulatory axe

"UK media reports suggest that Premier League clubs will call a close on their sponsorships with gambling companies as a result of the 2005 Gambling Act review. As the English top-flight season came to a close on Saturday, BBC Sport reported that the government is pushing Premier League teams to seek an early end to their sponsorship contracts. The broadcaster alleged that the government’s White Paper – due for publication in the coming months – will include a ban on ‘principal sponsorships’, meaning Premier League clubs will no longer be able to display betting logos on the front of their shirts."

"Good point Mad Dog Raises further questions - why do adults buy the shirt with sponsor rather than without? Does the likelihood of less shirts sold with your company logo on reduce the amount the company is prepared to pay and their ROI? Still think there are better ways for companies to establish themselves / be in the public eye Has to be vanity , jollies and shmoozing only. I for one have never bought anything from: BAC Windows Avco Betway XL holidays I have bought Doc Martins and a car from Dagenham Motors but not because of the shirt sponsorship. Has anyone ever bought a product because it is on a shirt?"

Only problem I have with betway is they won't allow hoops or stripes through the word. Hence the ahitty text block on the away and the gap between hoops last year. Aside from that I like them for 2 reasons 1)if we're gonna have a sponsor at least rheyre plainer white text 2)with a betting sponsor it means the under 18 shirts remain unsponaored and they gonup to adult sizes

I’ve always wondered why shirt sponsorship is a good deal? It must just be vanity surely - if it generated a return on investment then why don’t club owners put their own companies on the shirt? Although we would look like a team of dildos with Ann Summers on the shirt.
