Noone got to 50 or any innings to 200 at Somerset but was pace & seam rather than a turner Usually can blame that on weather in the preparation so dont imagine there will be any comeback Was reading that counties are struggling to find eligible overseas players due to all the t20 leagues around Used to be eligibility for visas was based on international caps but was changed to allow players to play if they had 20 t20 games in a full member country in the last 3 years Understand clubs have to the end of May to lobby the Home Office to change it Bit odd that red ball players arent eligible to play County Championship without a t20 record

"Wurzels turned over for 128. Advantage the Seaxes albeit only by 28 runs. Congrats to Cook & Porter who shared the spoils, each with fivefors - appears that Kookaburra or Duke, they all come the same to these guys. Now let's see how 2nd innings goes and hope that weather doesn't impact the final outcome."

"Thank you LT I tried to look on-line but could only find that if level on points it went to games won and then to relative performance between the sides concerned, As Surrey and Essex hadn't yet played each other couldn't work out why. Have to say my searches led me to conclude that the MCC and some Counties need to do some work on their websites."

"Why were Surrey put in first place? To save the bother of having to change the table before the season ends Lots of rain, lots of draws May tomorrow so hopefully will see more completed games"

"SURREY > essex That's why. If the teams are level on points, and haven't played, then it goes down to most wickets taken and then most runs scored."

"Good question. I'd say most likely reason is that Surrey won their game early on day 4 so reached 71 points before the points were awarded for the draw in the Durham-Essex game, and Essex didn't overhaul them, just matched them. Could be way off though"

Question for you Cricket Experts Why are Essex currently shown below Surrey in the County Championship table despite both teams having won 2 and drawn 2 with the same points 71?

"I believe you'll find that Duke balls are in use for this round of matches - the Kookaburra was only for the first two rounds. They may be utilised for another couple of rounds later in the season, Incidentally - Essex have just crushed Lancs by an innings by lunch on day 3."

Kookaburra balls weeding out some of the pie throwers stealing a living Essex storming towards victory v Lancs .... need 4 more wickets with a lead of 180. Dont think any other Div1 team has won a game yet though Surrey in a good position against Kent with almost 2 full days left. Ahead with 9 wickets in hand ... Sibley n.o century & D Lawrence 72no

"Watched the whole day - most enjoyable - nervous @ 10/2 but they accomplished what they were unable to do last season. Contributions throughout the order - Elgar, Cox. Walter (crocked as he was) Critchley & Pepper. The absence of Sam Cook is a concern but it's certainly an encouraging start."

Essex are a decent 421/6 at close on day one against Kent Elgar with 120 and Critchley not out on 103

"Get the feeling the BBC are rooting for Surrey this season -------------------------------------------------------------------- What a catch! Jordan Clark induces the edge off Sean Dickson's bat and the ball flies towards Jamie Overton's bucket hands at second slip. But it bounces out of those and drops towards the floor at first, where Dom Sibley gets down low to grab it. Brilliant work from the slipper. Shades of Chris Tavare and Geoff Miller at the MCG in the Boxing Day Test of 1982. Batting - tick! Bowling - tick! Fielding - tick! Surrey tick all the boxes"

Seems very early to be playing cricket but guess the t20 World Cup is in June pushing the Tests back to a mid July start. And of course the Hundred takes the peak county period. Has ANY other country expressed the slightest interest in taking up the Hundred?
