Doesn't seem to get a lot of attention but I really liked Carlitos Way. City of God was tremendous The classics.. Godfather 1 and 2 still genre defining

I quite enjoyed American Gangster with Washington and Crowe and The Untouchables of course. Not really a full gangster film but The Sting is the better of the lighter fare.

Goodfellas The Godfather parts I and II (part III was shite) Once Upon A Time In America The Long Good Friday (best Briit gangster film by a mile) Also thought A History Of Violence was decent. Ed Harris was superb.

"Reading this, I need to watch Once upon time in America again. Saw it in my early teens and was a bit bored (30 odd years ago). I would vote for Godfather, Goodfellas, The Departed and Pulp Fiction."
