Re: Graham Thorpe is dead
"So, even on a thread with such a serious subject as this, some people feel that it's more important to have their say rather than show respect and/or offer anything useful and constructive. No surprises who, to be honest."

Re: Graham Thorpe is dead
"Sven, you said Thorpe has ""problems with alcohol at various points in his life"". That isn't common knowledge at all. In fact, the source you provided is from a Daily Mail article which states he hit the bottle for a short period after his first wife kicked him out. Seems the fella was a bit of a ladies man in his younger days who liked a drink and a party. That isn't what you implied at all in your original comment. ""Problems with alcohol"" suggests a drink problem. Hence why I asked for a source, as I hadn't heard anything of the sort about him before. But then, I don't read the gossip column of the Daily Mail."

Re: Graham Thorpe is dead
Which I pointed out Some people seem to want to be deliberately contrary and are incapable of acknowledging that they have been set straight
Re: Graham Thorpe is dead
"It was a typical snide post from the fake Australian, it's quite common for depressives to self medicate with alcohol."

"The comment ""common knowledge amongst cricket fans"" was a typically snidey comment from Sven, Manual son. I simply responded in turn."

"COYI - A very typical WHO snidey, response that. I'm not a fan of Roeder but you asked for a source and he put one up. What were you expecting exactly, a video of Thorpe staggering down the street throwing up?"

Come On You Irons 12:44 Mon Aug 12 Re: Graham Thorpe is dead How do you know he had problems with alcohol? I haven't read anything along those lines. What is your source for that? Re: Graham Thorpe is dead
"Yep, it's impressive and refreshing coming out how the family have. As they said, there is nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed off, while it stops the gossiping and can potentially help others. The 'bit' that got me is that he apparently really tried to fix himself, but couldn't. You're always hearing the line ''never give up'' from the wise and worldly, but when you don't feel like you can suffer for another day that is easier said than done. The fact that he's left behind a wife, four children, a bunch of close mates and presumably a very nice way of life, tells me that poor sod must have been in hell."

"Really sad. Shows how profound the effects of depression can be as said below. Brave of his family to come out and say that, and they are right. It's nothing to be ashamed of and you never know who may be suffering and it should be talked about openly. Maybe it'll even help someone somewhere save someone else's life."

Re: Graham Thorpe is dead
"claret59 12:59 Mon Aug 12 Indeed a very moving, and, I feel, much needed statement for many reasons. I think it gives an indication of just how deeply rooted such mental conditions (I don't regard it at all as an illness now, even if I have used those words in the past) are in evolved modern humanity. It seems to afflict all colours and creeds, all societies and communities anywhere in the world, at any time. Heaven knows where to begin in trying to figure our a root cause, let alone devising a process to deal with it. We tried isolation in the (recent) past and, although that kept the problems mostly out of sight, and off the streets, it didn't seem to offer much hope of actually working on and finding a solution"

Re: Graham Thorpe is dead
Had had problems with alcohol at various times in his life Goes to show that mental health problems and depression can affect anyone even if from the outside they seem to have a 'good life'. Was a comment after his death that he didnt know how loved and respected he was. Very very sad

Re: Graham Thorpe is dead
What you have to remember about McSvender is that he was born in England has lived most his life in England and has contributed wonderfully to our nation financially. What the treacherous cսnt is then going to do is fuck off over to Australia for them to have his worst years and just be old and be a burden on them. Fucking excellent.....they will think him a right cսnt......

Re: Graham Thorpe is dead
The use of the term convicts on a tribute thread is offensive Thorpe was a respected player in Australia due to his performances in difficult times and as said coached in Australia for a period
