"Alfs 4:38 Sat Aug 17 Yep, can't disagree with that at all, just a different era then, real men etc. As a comparison, Kirk and Michael Douglas, now I really like Michael as an actor, think he's brilliant, but he's just not the 'man' Kirk was. If there is one today that still has a pull in getting people into a cinema then maybe it's Di Caprio?"

"The 'film stars' of today just don't have the gravitas of those that have gone before them. Actors that you'd go to the cinema purely because they were in the film. Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Steve McQueen, Peter O'Toole, Richard Harris, Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood, Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemon, Sidney Poitier. Great actors but also great characters. It says a lot when the biggest film star we presently have is the 62 year old Tom Cruise. The Golden Age of Cinema has died, unfortunately."

Oh dear 3:28 Thu Aug 15 Richard Wattis? He wouldn't be considered as he didn't play American gangsters. You must be as old as me.

Alright he doesn't have a great body of work in movies but Sir John Gielgud in Arthur was absolutely superb and he got a well deserved best actor Oscar.
