"Alfs 4:38 Sat Aug 17 Yep, can't disagree with that at all, just a different era then, real men etc. As a comparison, Kirk and Michael Douglas, now I really like Michael as an actor, think he's brilliant, but he's just not the 'man' Kirk was. If there is one today that still has a pull in getting people into a cinema then maybe it's Di Caprio?"

"The 'film stars' of today just don't have the gravitas of those that have gone before them. Actors that you'd go to the cinema purely because they were in the film. Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Steve McQueen, Peter O'Toole, Richard Harris, Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood, Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemon, Sidney Poitier. Great actors but also great characters. It says a lot when the biggest film star we presently have is the 62 year old Tom Cruise. The Golden Age of Cinema has died, unfortunately."

Dad said he’s never seen Gene Hackman in a bad film. Probably a couple knocking about but he’s obviously not seen them

"I'm old-ish nothbanker. As I gotten older things that annoy me no longer annoy me, I can remain calm. But seeing Sean Penn on the TV makes me want to kick the TV, as does Joaquin Phoenix. A pair of cunts"

Walken and Penn were both good in “at close range” good movie. Worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.

"Brad Pitt deserves a mention although some already mentioned top his list. Done serious, stupid & evil and carried them all off well.....thought he was excellent in California, and his pikey role was good too!"

Alright he doesn't have a great body of work in movies but Sir John Gielgud in Arthur was absolutely superb and he got a well deserved best actor Oscar.

Lee - Was going to mention him but where do you stop? For me one of his best films was What Lies Beneath. Sean Penn another great actor. Denzel. Gary Oldman. Edward Norton.
