U21 Loan Watch

I don’t know about you, but I love it when a player makes it through the ranks to become a first team regular. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen often these days. This is a shame because giving young players a chance is an area where we could have an edge over the traditional top 6.
The current crop give me some cause for optimism, having won the FA Youth Cup and U18 League South a couple of seasons back. Maybe two or three can make it. No fewer than eight U21 players have gone out on a season loan to lower league clubs. Meanwhile, Casey, Scarles and Orford remain at the club. Hopefully, they will get a few minutes on the pitch, but I’m not holding my breath. Mubama had a few chances last season but mostly disappointed with his lack of technique. Inexplicably, he has now joined Man City to give Haaland competition.
So, to the eight who are currently out on loan. How are they getting on?
1. Callum Marshall - Huddersfield (League One). After a disappointing loan spell at West Brom last season, Marshall has dropped down to League One. So far, he has done quite well and already found the net. Yesterday, he played for 67 minutes before being replaced.
2. George Earthy - Bristol City (Championship). A lot of great things expected of Earthy. He didn’t make the squad yesterday. Is he injured?
3. Michael Forbes - Bristol Rovers (League One). Did not make the squad.
4. Freddie Potts - Portsmouth (Championship). Player of the season at Wycombe last year, but unused sub yesterday.
5. Krisztian Hegyi - Motherwell (Scottish Premier). Unused sub.
6. Patrick Kelly - Doncaster (League Two). Came on in the 78th minute.
7. Levi Laing - Cheltenham (League Two). Unused sub.
8. Gideon Kodua - Wycombe (League One). Came on in the 88th minute.
I make that 81 minutes of football between 8 players yesterday. Early days but a bit worrying. I’ll keep this updated throughout the season (if I can be bothered).

Most 18yos that break through are forwards or wingers
Need a bit of physical development to play where Potts is
Mainoo I think is 19 & had a good start & has now gone backwards
Potts is at a stage where he needs to come back & challenge for a squad place
Not in favour of players going on loan for more than a season
He has done well at Wycombe & Portsmouth but it’s now or never for him this summer
Mainoo had the classic situation of being a young Man U player that showed even a tiny bit of promise to just got lumped right into the England team like countless others before him whether it was deserved or not at the time or a good or idiotic move in hindsight. Don’t know what it is- still- about that club and that club only.

The thing is with Potts is that if he was that good he would have through by now. There are 2 18 year olds at Spurs that are running that first team. If you are good enough you are old enough.
Potts may end up being a squad player for us but nothing more.
What was Bowen doing at Potts age?
Not all players develop at the same pace, wasn't Harry Kane struggling on loan at the same age?

I think sad ferrets/ladyboys obsession with Potts is slightly worrying, has he had a bad experience with a 21 year old boy so is taking it out on Potts or did Potts turn him down for a bit of bum?

Another goal for Marshall in Huddersfield’s 5-1 win over Crawley
Sitting in the last playoff place now

I see Potts didn’t get a call up.
Because he's 21, you dick.

Good to see Earthy, Scarles & Casey called up to the u20s elite squad although I thought Scarles had a sniff at the full squad.

They beat Leeds on Sunday with him restored to the team.
They lost to Luton last week with him not in the team.
Funny how you disappeared then, but re-emerge now.

Potts HAULED OFF after an hour.
Funny how he gets restored to the team and they turn to shit once again.

I see Dozzell got HAULED OFF
They lost to the bottom team last week without Potts. No coincidence that Freddie comes back and they beat the top team.

Dozzell was good but one comment one of their fan sites had was liked by a lot of their fans so guessing Pottsy had a decent game. Like the fact that he was pressing well as its sonething we desperately need.
“I have to make special mention today to Potts and Dozzell they were clucking immense and gave the Leeds midfield no time what so ever- fantastic from those 2 today they bossed the middle of the pitch closed down the inside channels (Leeds fav tactic).”
The Pompey fans really like him as do West Ham fans.
It’s Spurs fans who don’t like him.

Massive result for Portsmouth in the newly named Freddie Potts Stadium
Now 10pts above the relegation zone with 10 games to play
