Fields is a busted flush, btw.

Was prepared to give him a chance. Somewhere in there was a talented youngster. But whatever he had, it’s long gone. Watched all games he’s played, and his mechanics, and ability to read the field, are poor.

He wants to throw on the move constantly. So he often throws off balance, off the wrong foot, holds onto the ball for far too long etc. His checkdowns are atrocious. Once his primary receiver (usually Wilson) is double-covered, he can’t read the field quickly enough to recover, then he panics, takes off, runs into a clogged up area and is forced to try a risky throw.

Repeat ad nauseum. Part of it is not knowing the system well enough. 

But much of it is that he’s just poor.

It was a very tough watch. Both defences played well but, also, both QBs were terrible which not make mush of a spectacle. Justin Fields is not the answer; I can't remember him even trying to move out the pocket until the first defender touched him and it is too late at that point.
The faked punt was fun though - nothing wrong with the Jets special teams either. Your punter looks great and pinned the Broncos back nicely.

Was at the game with a Yank friend and, as we were leaving, we heard one New Yorker say: “That game was the worst thing we’ve done to the British since 1776.”

For context, -10 passing yards is the worst performance in Jets history. And the worst by any NFL aside for 27 years.

Things are not getting better. Yet.

Patience is key, of course. But you have to show you’re moving in the right direction. Today, literally and physically, the passing game went backwards.

I thought the Jets played especially in the 2nd half and were a bit unlucky to lose. They put the Broncos QB under a lot of pressure throughout the game.

Defensively, we were better than in past weeks. But offensively, that was among the worst performances I’ve seen. And I watched teams coached by Kotite and Gase!

Astonishingly, we finished with -10 passing yards. Because Fields was sacked 9 times for big losses.

That’s pretty abysmal by any measurement.

I like Glenn, and am prepared to give him time (multiple seasons). But he’s got to start showing some improvement by the end of this season. Things are moving in the other direction right now.

Did it yet again today.

We’ve invested in Aaron Glenn for multiple seasons. And we do have to stick with him and show some patience. Jimmy Johnson went 1-15 in his first season in Dallas (although, it was before the salary cap and when the Cowboys bombed on purpose). So patience is key.

But we are getting worse, not better, right now.

At least we didn’t give up many points this week.

I was in Dublin for Minnesota Vikings v Pittsburgh Steelers 2 Sundays ago.
Never had any interest in NFL but went as I’d never been to Croke Park. (And it was corporate)
Fantastic 4 hours of entertainment, great atmosphere with 40,000 yanks there. Actually enjoyed the game and may even go again

The Browns QB situaton is hilarious and completely of their own making. Havind said Dillon Gabriel did OK in his first game.
Poor Joe Flacco is going to get battered. I'd be amazed it he makes it to Christmas without getting broken.

SB, it was worrying seeing him start in that knee brace but he got more and more comfortable as the game progressed. Never saw a rookie QB like him for any team, and if he can just keep sliding at the right time will have an unbelievable career

Totally agree, TM. The best young QB I've seen for a few years. Said it before, but he just never seems to be fazed by anything. As you know, once the snap goes in the NFL, everything happens at 100 miles an hour. That kid just seems to suspend time so that he can make good decisions.

I hope he stays relatively injury free for a good while, because it will be great for Washington and it'll piss off the Cowgirls in that division!

from early on, he's had that Jordan type aura. these elite players are different, he's also very humble and I've not seen one diva type reaction yet towards a team mate. regarding the Cowboys, they're performing better than I expected. they have one of my favourite college running backs, Javonte Williams (UNC). your old player (another favbourite, and Javonte's running mate) Michael Carter is now in Arizona

Tanner Engstrand, the OC, will probably be backed to stay for a couple of years at least. You can see that his offensive schemes are promising. But the RBs keep fumbling the ball at key times, and Fields is a very limited passer once his primary receiver (almost always Wilson) is double-teamed. And the offensive penalties have to stop. That's on Glenn, on both sides of the ball, because he made it his priority.

Btw, Wilks might become the first casualty of the Jets' latest clusterfuck.

They will stick with Glenn, of course. But Wilks really only has the rest of this season to make significant improvements to the defense in New York. We're spending a lot of money on that side of the ball, and they look utterly toothless. Not a single takeaway through the first five games. Even shit sides of the past had a few accidental fumble recoveries etc by now. Us - zilch!

The general roster is poor, and we knew that. But that defense contains Sauce, the Williams brothers (Quinnen is a top quality player in the right system) and Will McDonald. Yet they're leaking an average of 31.5 points per game so far. You can't win matches that way. There's just no aggression, or co-ordination and the players look confused by the "system". They're weak in all defensive departments (offense at least has Garrett Wilson, who is a top-five receiver playing in a #32 team!).

Wilks was an underwhelming choice for a new dawn in New York. And his defense is very, very flat at this early stage. He seems like a decent fella. But 100% it'll be his head on the chopping block if they don't improve at some point in this shitshow season. The players are not reacting to him, or Glenn, at all at this point.

Trevor Lawrence scrambling a lot is a new thing and the 99 yard intereption return was fun.
Harrison Butker stuffing up the final kick off made me smile.
