Shearer is saying that the FA didn't even bother contacting Howe about the job. But they are complete idiots.I don't think so literally. But I did hear Simon Jordan say that the FA had asked Newcastle to talk to Howe and they Objected. They then subsequently told the FA if Howe wants to talk then they cannot stop him but will be demanding huge compensation if selected. Howe never spoke to the FA so I suppose I am taking from this that he never pushed or asked Newcastle to let him talk to the FA.
I suppose its all conjuncture and guess work. But, let's be honest, if Howe really wanted it then in todays society it is very easy to slip some info to the media to get ears pricked and tongues wagging. That never happened so, again, I assume that was down to Howe. He'd be a VERY brave man to go behind the Saudi's backs.

I am pretty pleased with the appointment. It's a complete shift from the blandness of Southgate, who won nothing before he got the England job. And won nothing with arguably the best crop of England players. And potentially, whilst I originally advocated the appointment of Carsley, having now seen that he is a bland, naive, I-pad hugging, uninspiring slug, the FA have avoided another disaster.
Tuchel's CV speaks for itself. He wins trophies. And fundamentally that's what its all about. He can handle the big jobs and the expectation. He also has a good personality and is able to talk to the press without making himself look like a 5 year old child (unlike Carsley).
In an ideal world we do have an Englishman. But Howe ruled himself out so where do you go? Dyche? Potter? The bloke at Soton who I don't even know his name? Compare their CV's to Tuchel. Absolutely laughable. Even Howe has won nothing and was our best English candidate.
These ex-pro's and pundits can bleat as much as they like. But these are the same people bleating when Southgate was snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and when Carsley played Bellingham as a striker and left Watkins on the bench. So these people need to suck it up and shut up.
The FA are a bunch of incompetent, money stealing cob-web men. Sitting in their ivory tower and looking down at the rest of us. But here they have made a progressive decision for once. Tuchel's main challenge won't be to get this current crop of potential world beaters to gel and play some decent football and win a trophy. I think it will be working with the FA who, personally, I see as the core fundamental reason as to why we haven't won a trophy since '66.

He's probably more patriotic than a few of his hangers on.

Won things at clubs that always win things? Amazing. Not much of an argument is it. But then I don't expect you are able to make one.

I hope he comes in and tells them none of them have a guaranteed place and not one of them is bigger than the team and they will get picked on form rather than reputation. Thinking of the likes of Kane Bellingham and Saka here. I get the feeling he won;t care if some of his players don;t like it. And I hope he is strong enough to tell the media and the player himself that TAA doesn't have a divine right to be shoehorned into the team just because he can take free kicks and play the odd lovely long ball. If he's not the best right back available, then he doesn't start. He certainly doesn't get picked in a different position over a specialist in that position.
On that I also hope he just concentrates on picking the players that best fit the system he wants to play rather than bending it round squeezing in the best 11 players. Only room for one of Foden or Palmer, or Gordon or Grelish? Well then one of them must ride the bench.
Tuchel certainly wasn't my first choice but you don't know who they approached and who was available or turned it down, but he's not a bad manager and he knows how to win things. He's not going to be a media darling like Gareth and they are going to do in dry on him if we don;t do really well right away and in every match. Just hope they don;t hound him out of the job.
As a side note, I can't believe Shearer said he thought Carsley should get it. FFS.
