That wasn’t an answer to the original post, by the way. Just a general list of players who have had the injury curse.
Webster got his leg broken by Julian Dicks before he even kicked a ball competitively for us. Career was ruined.
James did his knee for England before he even played for us.
Gordon only played 9 games for us.

The thing that gets me is if we were planning for a slow, aging striker to lead the line, why isnt Ings playing whilst he is injured?
Ings is literally the same type of player. So if you have a system your working towards wouldn't it make sense for a similar player to deputise so that the rest of the team knows how to play your system?

achilles tears are difficult to return from, but not strains. If he had a tear, there's no way he could have participated in the training session after the game he injured it in.

Yeah I did read somewhere that it might be after Christmas, Sir Alf. But then I've seen nothing since.
I don't think of him as a saviour, I was just wondering when we might be seeing him next.
