Steve Bacon

Unless I'm missing something, this hasn't been mentioned on the board yet? Or I've just popped online at a coincidental time to see the announcement.

RIP to the big man, having started going in around 90/91 season, seeing him waddle across the pitch to take the picture of the captains seemed as normal as having a stand called the chicken run.

A small part of me has disappeared with him.

There's only ever going to be one stevie bacon. The only photographer i've ever heard serenaded by west ham - or any other football fans.

Assume the club will be recognising this in some way today?

RIP big man.
Well said mate

FMOB.

I was Facebook friends with him.

Only about a week ago he was raving about Popeye's chicken burgers.

RIP

The term 'legend' is bandied about far too often nowadays, often to those barely deserving of the accolade.
Not in this case however.
The bloke was West Ham through and through.

RIP Stevie son.
You know it

I think this really sums it up. Very rare to find someone that no one has a bad word about and 10 times harder on this forum.

Aw no, seemed a nice bloke, not too many Football legends that aren't players or managers. Steve's book is a great read. RIP

Same as others, sang the song as we all did and knew a few journos on the Newham and Ilford Recorder. All said he was a gent, humble bloke.

oh how the world needs more of them.

RIP to the fella

A really sad day.

Steve was a fine photographer and seemed like a gentle soul.

He was a constant presence at the ground when my mates and I started going. Loved how the crowd sang his name! Later in life, I bumped into him at various press events - although I wouldn't pretend I knew him well.

Genuinely sorry to hear this.
RIP.

Sad news, my dad knew him.

Dad told him about the peak of his sporting photographic career when he was hired (and paid) to take pictures on the halfway line at Leyton Orient.  After ten minutes a ball was smashed into my dad's camera (which he was holding to his face) which broke his £800 camera, his £300 glasses and his nose and eye socket.

Steve showed him a picture of the same incident.

Very sad to have just been given the news before I popped on here to see if anyone else had. R.I.P. big part of West Ham culture for many years. Thoughts are with his family and friends.

A club legend, always sang "One Stevie Bacon" as he strolled out for pre match photos. Very sad what he went through in the last few years, rest in peace Steve

R.I.P Stevie mate. Club Legend, also worked for the NR. The crowd back in the day loved him. Remember the chant "He's big, he's round he bounces on the ground Stevie Bacon."
