Knocking Van
Back in the day , early 80’s when I just left school I use to go out in the knocking van. We would usually meet up outside the Princess Alice boozer in Forest Gate and drive all over London selling household items, such as ironing board covers, pegs, dusters, dish’s clothes etc.
we had some dodgy fake ID from the “youth employment scheme” we would pull out and use as our pitch. There’d be about 10 of us and did we get into some shit. Some fucking hilarious stories. Did it for a while, more for a laugh than for the money but we use to make a few bob.
I remember we kicked off with some Tottenham fans in Broxbourne. we also threw a few punches at the Elephant and Castle with a little firm we ran into.
we were out of control back then.
Anyway, a different world back then, couldn’t get away with anything like that now. Not with all the camera’s everywhere.
Anyone else on here ever go out on a knocking van?

When I was a nipper on the streets I always made sure I never left the house without being armed with a pair of feather dusters. No cսnt was ever going to mess with me or I'd tidy it up.
You're right. I think I was overdosing on tea and biscuits at the time. Mad, mad days!

When I was a lad we dropped some litter in the park, and then Dave stole some crisps from a corner shop, ALL IN THE SAME AFTERNOON!
I'm just amazed that plod never caught up with us we were such out of control delinquents!

Nutsin - a few year ago, grant flemming was going to write a script or book about this, with some help from Irvin Walsh I think. Guess it didn’t happen though.

There was a documentary about in the 80s 'a knockers tale' I think it was called? with Andy Swallow and a couple of others I knew.
Ironing board covers where the best to sell.. Oven gloves, pegs, dish cloths, tea towels Christmas cards, dusyers. Could earn some decent money. Could also get nicked.Bob Mills featured extracts from that knockers documentary on his In bed with me dinner show in the nineties including the fight with convenient sticks scene when they come across some muggy boneheads knocking on their patch.
I think there was also a follow up documentary ten years on.
Fing is ..the joke was on bob

Re: Knocking Van
Why bring it up?
because it was mental when I look back at it. Some real characters on the van, lost touch with most of them.
I know we weren’t the only ones doing it at the time, just throwing it out there, you never know.
We’re all West Ham fans after all.

Re: Knocking Van
Yeah you could say that.
stabbing people and throwing acid on people was never my thing. I never used weapons once. Not that kind of cսnt.
so I decided to get a career and grow up instead.
haven't come close to a scrap in almost 40 years.
Stopped going over West Ham shortly after.

I got my collar felt and was fined at Stratford magistrates court for fighting with skinheads outside the princess Alice, Animal was with me.
The fight at Elephant and castle was at a big roundabout that had an underground footpath to cross the busy road. Jason Pearman was there.
it all ended for me after I got stabbed in the back had my lung punctured and had acid thrown on me in the space of 12 months. You can ask your boy Tony Caron about it all.
We all use to go over West Ham together back then. Yeah juvenile delinquents I know.
a few names I’m sure some on here might know. Feel free to ask them if you like.
Nothing made up about any of it. As I said we were out of control back then.
Sounds like you lost your bottle..it happens
why bring it up anyways?
