Same. And I am still livid at how we blew that. Comfortable first half and then "32% win ratio" Potter deploys the Moyes-ball low block in the second half until Villa inevitably scored, not once but twice.

Surrender monkey tactics and terrible game management. We only woke up again in the last 10 minutes after going behind and Ings blew two decent chances at the death. We deserved to go out. But seems some are happy about that because we won the first half. Pathetic.

‘Great half that. Funny how we look like a decent team all of a sudden with a proper manager’.
Yes. Potter is a proper manager and I stand by that comment. The first half last night was very good. It's a shame we blew it in the second half after Villa woke up (they were woeful in the first half). On reflection Potter's decision to replace FulCROCK with Ings stymied our attacking threat. Let's hope he starts Kudus up front on Tuesday.

The first half last night still doesn't change the fact Potter has 32% win ratio as a top flight manager. He will need to convince he is the right man to take us to the next level (regular top ten finishes, competing for European spots and getting to the latter stages of the domestic cups).

Nothing fishing about any of the above, so get over yourself.

Potter deploys the Moyes-ball low block in the second half..
I obviously don't know what was said but I'd be surprised if that was the instruction. More a case of forced on to the back foot due to the injuries reducing our attacking outlet coupled with nerves and fatigue.

33% may be all Potter achieves here but on last nights show it'll be an organised, hard working  33% where we actually pass the ball to each other and look half decent in the process. I can live with that.

He also got a shift out of craPaqueta so maybe he is half wizard...
ignore COYI

The simple thing is we were playing a back 5 all game but in the first half we had Jimmy breaking at speed, we then lost that when he went off.

Positive signs though.

It's fishing to be angry that we are out of the FA Cup in the third round?

Gutted to be out in the 3rd round. Even with their gifted corner, we were running out of steam and probably would have lost anyway. But definitely an improvement. When paq scored i welled up a little bit, relieved - bit of a turning point i hope.

As for ings, was a bit of a panic sub as fullkrug obv couldnt play on at all. So immediate like for like rather than push up Cry and bring in soler? I still think ings was a good signing at the time but has been left to rot for two years. So no dodging the fact need a few players arriving this month. Potter in, feeling positive for next season.

Let's not forget the reason we're lumbered with Ings and his outrageous wages is 100% Sullivan. He was a gift to Moyes...12m plus 100k per week.

What a know nothing cսnt...and this guy wants to get back more involved in transfers.

I feel angry about the result last night. I guess that’s good as under lopetegui I’d become quite withdrawn from it.
Some definite positives but I’m disappointed about the injuries, the refs decision for the corner, paqueta’s going to ground antics and the way kudus applies himself soon as we are up against it.
I really hope we can find a striker and buck up both paqs’ and kudus’ attitude a bit.

I think all of us do!

At least we can concentrate on the League now!

we just don’t have the quality and depth, and I fear that we will get sucked into a relegation battle.

Two forwards and two midfielders
WE will never progress with Soucek and Alvarez together in central midfield.

Think we now need two strikers now. Very encouraging first half, but we run out of gas, then we lose our most effective player in Summerville and it’s a struggle. We needed two in the first half, they were never going to be as poor in the second. The corner was shit but so was our defending from it.
Injuries are just showing how fragile our squad really is, and Ings is done at this level. Get that wallet out Sullivan you shyster and support the manager.

I agree that was the outcome...but you only had to look at the team shape, the back 3 line up with Wan Bissaka dropping in, and to know Potters history for using wide players like Summerville at wingback to know and see we started -3-4-3 with a box midfield (2 CDM, 2 AM). It was clear as day, and classic Potter team structure. It's how he sets teams up. At Brighton is was Solly March and Trossard at wing back, and today it was Summerville and Scarles.

All he then did was run out of personnel to make it work. When Summerville got injured the toss up was Guilherme to play wingback, or Coufal with one of him or Wan Bissaka to go to right wing back.

Trouble was it weakened us in two areas and he'd likely have been better leaving Wan Bissaka at right centre back and sticking Coufal at RWB.

This is exactly how I saw it. Don't understand how anyone could have thought of that as a back 4 in the first half. As you say, the switch to Coufal at RCB weakened us in two areas. That, together with us playing way too deep (which at least Potter acknowledged) is what cost us the game.

I wonder about what Paqueta was told to do. He was playing just behind Fullkrug early on, then seemed to move deeper and wider as the game went on. A lot of the 2nd half he seemed to be in the LB position with a 6 man backline whenever we didn't have the ball.

Suspect Paqueta was told to support Scarles...we dropped deeper, their overload was down the right hand side against Scarles, so he probably dropped in to try and help....plus we'd lost the ability to hold the ball going forwards and were turning it over very quickly. And he was likely gassed too.  Without the injuries, Soler in for Paqueta at some point would have made sense....but the injuries screwed us over.

Under the circumstances it looks like he'll do alright. Injuries and lack of fitness killed us in the end.

Interesting that one training session with Potter improved us more than 7 months of Flopetegui. They must of really hated that cսnt.

Clearly we tired in the second half because of the effort put in but all the players looked like they knew what they were doing, the structure was clear to see from the tv cameras and we attacked really well in the first half and with purpose.

After one training session it was night and day with what we’ve seen in the last few years and six months particularly. He got a lot more out of the players than Lop ever did.

im optimistic he’s going to really get a tune out of the players and with some additions I think we will look a hell of a lot better than we’ve been for a while.

actually looking forward to Tuesday.

Haven't been through the thread but can't say I'm happy. Out the cup in the 3rd round again and picked up injuries = a shit fucking night. After the goal did we create anything?? As for Danny Ings? FMOB.

Scarles obviously one positive.
