Just had a look and there are seats available everywhere. We don't even sell out for Tottenham now. I know end of a shit season and it's been moved a Sunday on a bank holiday weekend. But it's not good is it.

Getting old is clearly part of it, but let’s be honest football fans are becoming a different breed to what I grew up with (I’m 51). Terraces being removed and sky was the beginning of the end for many of us. If I’m honest I miss the air of violence and hostility but that’s pretty much gone in the prem now, it’s nothing like what it used to be, now its more girls doing tick tock videos of their day, the vibe etc, Arsenal and Spurs being the biggest culprits for this kind of shit. I think something like 12 prem clubs are Yank owned now and they all have the same Americanised agenda, sadly it’s going to get a whole lot worse, if that’s possible. I really feel bad my 11 year old won’t ever get to experience what I have, I took him to Everton away the other week and I watched that 30 second feeling on his face when we scored and everyone around him went nuts, he loved it, but it’s nearly impossible to experience that at the London Stadium

This!

There's definitely an age cycle of people losing interest. My old man complained it wasn't the same in the 80s and 90s. I think its not the same since the terraces went. We all find our justifications but often it is just age.

I got back into it when my son came along and started seeing it through his eyes. He doesn't like the owners and moans about some things but he is up for it in the ground and often leading the chants. His frustration is the middle-aged Essex crowd as they are always away from their seats as they are more interested in socialising with their mates or leaving early to catch a train home than supporting the team to the final whistle.

I think the problem at the moment is a number of things. To name a few: mobile phones, price and the culture of demographic fossilising -- we don't all go to school together or drink in the same pubs anymore.

HC.

I'd like to know how much younger fans care these days, they have so many more distractions in the modern world. I guess most of us on here still remember the days of having only three tv channels and so it was little wonder that going to football and following/obsessing over West Ham seemed like the natural thing to do. Think your story is very common to fans of our generation, me included. My life literally revolved around following this club but that intensity has lessened year in year out, especially now that I have grandkids. Much rather spend any spare time with them rather than spend an arm and a leg to be bored shitless and come home in a mood. I would love to feel like I used to but I just can't pretend. I'll never not be West Ham,it's been a part of me for as long as i can remember, it's just not the be all and end all of my life any more.

I was actually going to take two of my boys to this one (10&12 years old) so I obviously needed three together...When I went on the website it was 85 quid a ticket, thats £255 for a game of footy plus travel, drinks and probably a bit of grub.

I ended up watching it on the fire stick and taking them to a non league game. I've had a season ticket previously for probably about 25 years of my life but everything just seems fkin ridiculous with prem football now and its just all accepted as normal

As I live away from my home city, it feels like a lifeline to familiarity and a guaranteed way of meeting mates. None of us, all from Mile End live there now, with me the furthest away, so no West Ham means no excuse to go back and forward regularly, as we’ll all find ‘other’ things to do.

I’ve had a season ticket for 25+ years. I renew almost out of habit, and as said, it’s something I struggle to shake off. That said, I have a one year old and another on the way. I leave for work before my daughter wakes up Mon-Fri, and am home when she’s asleep. With the way this season has panned out, I have made use of the resale option a number of times in the 2nd half of the season, including Sunday. I’d rather spend time with my daughter.

Sure I could give it up if I’m that disengaged, but I’ve thrown enough money at the club to reserve the right to pick and choose my games now, and keep my seat which is a decent one, probably only until I see of my kids show any interest in going, and if not I’ll likely knock it on the head.

Probably a few in similar situations. It’s up to the club and team to get supporters engaged again.

Don't like the matchday experience, the football we play, any of the players with maybe the exception of Bowen. Stadium is shit, players don't give a fuck. Owners and their entourage are pathetic unlikeable cunts that are outclassed in a business sense by almost every other club in the football league. The manager is a rabbit in the headlights spineless born loser with no clue of what the club is about.

West Ham at the moment is just a shitty habit that's hard to shake off. It's like realising you don't want to smoke anymore after twenty years but before nicotine patches were available. A miserable fucking experience. I don't blame people for not going.

Fall off your perch Sully, you disgusting little cսnt.
Very hard to argue with this.

As above.
And most of our fans are complete wankers as well. Sorry

Some people seem to buy season tickets like gym memberships in January

They start of in August all keen for a football fix and with expectations high but then when the weather changes and the team start to struggle soon find other things to do that don't involve getting of the couch and into the cold night air to watch us struggle to get a point off Fulham on a Tuesday night

Others seem to buy them with the intention of only going to certain games and stick the other games on the ticket exchange.

You also seem to get some who have bought for family members or a bunch of mates in a block and then one or two have lost interest.or moved away.

i buy tickets in various parts of the ground but apart from the standing areas it's pretty much the same story with those absent season ticket holders and tourists.

Never mind empty seats, I was surrounded by tourists. I find it hard to believe that season ticket holders re-list for spurs at home. There's more atmosphere in my front room when I watch West Ham on the telly.

It's games like this when I really miss the proper old days when we chased spurs supporters off the North Bank. Wankers.

I moved over to block 123 at half time as there were so many empty seats around. Sat in the row in front were a very elderly Chinese couple. Good luck to them, but weird.

To be fair the ground filled up in the minutes before kickoff
Imagine a few were on the concourse necking as many pints as possible before facing watching us
Ground not 100% full but not the tumbleweed strewn disaster predicted
Pretty flat atmosphere for any game let alone a London derby against THOSE CUNTS

A few empty seats around me and a couple that are apparently always vacant.

A fella in the row in front was a full on tourist clad in half and half scarf with coke popcorn foot long chilli dog programme and a bag full of goodies from the megastore

Just the type of consumer Brady likes to encourage.

Not true
The 2 behind my seat went to a couple. Strangely they were sat still when we scored.  Can't work out why....

Premier league football in this country going full corporate. Just like the States where most regular, middle income or below supporters wont justify going to the NFL, NBA games based on prices or simply cannot afford to go on a regular basis.  West Ham and other club’s can sell a regular season ticket holders seat for £300 to a tourist some weeks.

Brady changing the name to “West Ham London” was an early sign of the intention.  The owners of Premier Lge clubs beginning to feature more Americans and that means a full sell out to capitalism and profit. Community and friendship, a day out a distant second.  A game rooted in the industrial age, factories, blue collar supporters to become an experience for tourists and the professional classes or rich.

Nothing we can do about it. The Jerries got it right with fan ownership but that more socialist view of sport being a community will never happen in neo liberal Britain

It's not just us struggling to fill a ground or get a decent atmosphere going

I was talking to a longtime Brentford season ticket holder who was moaning about similar issues of empty seats and those owned by fans of other London clubs who bought them.cheap and only turn up for when the bees are playing there own side or they have nothing else to do.

They also have a fair amount of tourists which also annoys the diehards who he now reckons only number around 10000.

Only pride to play for and half the team haven't got any.
Away supporters will be pretending they don't care if they lose because they're in Europe.
We'll be playing a reserve team.
It's Bank Holiday weekend.
There'll be loads of tourists.
It has turned nippy.

I'll be there.
