I chef in a tourist town so will only get away for 4 or 5 days max in the Summer. Probably alicante city or fuseta portugal. Bit of sun and bring a few nice bottles and delicacies home.

10 days in Istanbul in September with an overnight stay in Zonguldak, if Zonguldakspor are playing at home on one of the Saturdays.

Main holiday is Costa Rica, Colombia, Puerto Rico then a week at Sandals in Barbados. Haven't been to a Sandals so I'm looking forward to that. Flying First Class, obvs.

Back to Europe (London) for me, running through Hornchurch and possibly Southend (without my willy hanging out, I hasten to add) and the overnight ferry to The Netherlands for 5 or so days in The Hague with the saucepans.

No young Cambodian cripples were involved in the conception, planning & construction of this post.

They were actually in the middle of excavating a new villa that they had found and it was incredible to see that paintings on the wall and tiles on the floor were generally still intact.  Beautiful paintings and tiles as well.  Won't get those in Ikea!

Turkey for me this year. Try and take the kids to Cappadocia. Not risking our lives on one of those balloons though however good the experience is. 

We went to Pompeii last year. Was very impressed, amazing place. But you do need a guide to get the most from it. I agree with what was said below that they can overwhelm you with information. If you’re lucky you get one that contextualises things rather than throwing statistics at you which you soon forget. I find it fascinating how well preserved so much of it is and how much more they still have to dig. 

 Best bit of Pompeii for me (I'm sad to say) was bumping into a guy who worked there who was a mad heavy rock fan (with a Motorhead tattoo). He was insistent that we went to see the Pink Floyd exhibition at the amphitheatre.

I think as well in hindsight I should have done a bit of research before we went or taken a guided tour as you can wander quite aimlessly at Pompeii without knowing what you are looking at.  Their courtesy maps aren't the easiest to follow, especially when the Mrs picks up an Italian one!  We were pulled by one guide though who asked us to pick up and feel some stones which turned out to be ash.  He then explained most residents were killed by ash inhallation rather than pyroclastic flow and lava. The guides standing around were very good.

We were going to but as we were only there four nights we decided against it in the end.  Think we had enough of the accordion player on the train first time around!!  I had heard that it is a better experience so maybe we did the wrong thing by not going.  Hard to magine though that the "ground level" is buried in many areas as you catch sight of the tops of arches etc, and the bodies in stone as they lay is quite humbling.

Was planning a Vegas/San Diego/Tijuana trip, but that’s fallen through, so nothing amazing now but a week in Porto and then maybe a visit to Prague later in the year. 

I’ve been to Amsterdam and Bratislava so far this year.

Was also thinking about a week/10 days somewhere further afield at the end of the year, although will probably combine this with a longer ‘big birthday’ holiday early next year.

Not sure yet, was back in Sicily briefly during half term, and then Norfolk.

we’re in Bergamo for a short break in June but nothing decided for the summer yet.

my brother in law has just moved to Arezzo in Tuscany, so maybe a Tuscany trip and hit a few different places.

14-night cruise around the Greek Islands in August, cruise ship only holds about 500 so not one of the mega ships so a different island most days and a stop in Turkey in ports the bigger ships cant get into, have a couple of nights in Athens beforehand and.a stopover in Abu Dhabi on the flight back to Sydney

Also got a 13-night cruise around New Zealand from Sydney over Christmas and New Year, this one is on a big ship, Celebrity Edge! holds about 3000 passengers plus another 2000 Crew, so a big fucker!
