On the subject of young talent not being given an opportunity......what has happened to George Earthy?

This year should be another development year for Freddie...in and aroudn the first team...making appearances off the bench.  Proving his worth slowly.  Wouldn't be fair on him to just dump him in the starting XI on account of the squad mismanagement by all the senior members of the Club.

I always had the feeling that Potts was only allowed to return to be put in the shop window.

Perhaps Potter has realised this and wants to keep him, so won't play him until the window closes.

Can see Sullivan getting the strop if true and shipping him out anyway, just to show everyone who is the boss.

Sadly this years relegation will be as catestrophic as the Roedent one.

The potential of Potts, Earthy, Marshall will be well known by other clubs and they'll be picked off in Sullivan's fire sale for seriously knock down prices

                            Areola

Wan-Bissaka Kilman Aguerd Scarles

                     Soucek    Potts

         Bowen      Paqueta      Diouf

                            Wilson

That's what I'd do right now. Get some positive youthful energy in the side with the Academy lads starting.

He’s a better option than Guido, JWP, Soucek and tbh even Paqueta based on his last season and a half ( yes ignoring that one goal which was a great individual effort, Im talking about his giving the ball away every game ).

But Potts alone is nowhere bear the answer. We need 2 other central midfielders, a number 6 and 8 with him.  I would not start JWP, Soucek, Guido ( hopefully gone soon) again but we dont have so few options.  The culmination of poor recruitment going back many years. Its been pretty awful generally throughout Sullivans 15 year reign. The odd exception or two from time to time but in terms of assembling a squad that works together as a unit, to a style of play and tactics, aside from Moyes who adapted it to work well for 18 months, its 15 years of spectacular failure in recruitment

I can tell you that he is. A good friend of mine know's Steve well and regularly meets him at home games in one of the lounges. Steve was actively looking to move his son on under Moyes as he knew Moyes was not interested in the youth. Things improved for Freddie under Lopetegui and Steve was complimentary of Lope's handling of the youth players. But his pathway has progressed under Potter and he is now where he is. Onwards and upwards we hope and pray.
Never understood Moyes' attitude to the youth. For all his faults I at least expected better of him in this department. It would be really hard to support the club without at least some of these players coming through. I hope Potts is one of those.

I like the look of what I've seen so far of Potts. He definitely deserves a chance...quick feet, plays on the half turn everything we are currently devoid of in the centre midfield.

He looks capable of stepping up...so that's a positive start

Cheers! That's really great to hear. Sad that a club legend would feel the need to take his son away from the club in order to get him a chance, when we weren't/aren't exactly flying with what we had in the senior squad at the time. Also good to hear that there should be opportunities for him and the other young players under Potter. He'll need some of them over the season if Sullivan doesn't actually provide him with what he needs in the transfer market, I am sure. There does actually seem to be a semblance of a plan with some of the youngsters now.

Nice to see Potter giving another youth player a chance.

didn’t Alvarez have a fall out before the end of the of the season? Think if Potter has it his way it will be him and Rodriguez off with another coming in.

He’s only just rejoined the squad.
But he’s not going to change anything. He’s slow & a walking yellow card.

hopefully we get the + in asap otherwise it looks like JWP.

I think this trip to the States has put him in the starting line up, very tidy player that looks forward first rather than passing the buck to his centre backs and not scared to put his foot in

Looks good pre season. Been roughed up in the lower leagues and come through with distinction. I suspect the main impediment to his success will be if we buy a journeyman to fill his position. Cynical? Look at what we are doing with Scarles and Marshall.
I hope and pray we give him the opportunity to succeed but, this is West Ham, the academy, so more hopeful than positive it will happen.

Some might consider that when assessing his level against a 31yo Argentina international in Rodriguez
Obviously has more upside

Needs to massively grow in confidence when on the ball.
