Free speech is above politics. If you don't understand that, you don't understand life.

Politicians hang on it's left and right coat-tails in the hope of popular traction/adoration, but it's not political.

What it is, is about a significant number of people with a controlling interest in the way the country is run (not governed) imposing their 6th form derived policies on the rest of us and denying (the people) the chance to question them.

And, don't forget that 6th formers, when they came up with all these "great" ideas to solve the world's problems still had their lives' (almost fully) financed by (the bank of) Mum & Dad / Ma & Pa / Mater & Pater / Father & Mother/ Mom & Pop. They had no practical idea of wealth creation (and fair distribution) while pontificating during their Thursday afternoon debates.

We need freedom of speech more than ever in this period of western unrest - nothing to be gained (or leaned) from cancelling those who say stuff you don't agree with.

There doesn't appear to of been any definitive suspicion of arson but then some people would probably suggest a cover up without any foundation.

Pubs burn down all the time by a the way and that is very often suspicious but more likely to be an insurance job than an attack on the British way of life...although it could be argued that if said pub is then replaced with a block of flats it most certainly is.

Again, immigration, per se, is not a political issue - I've been an immigrant for the last 25 years of my life and will probably remain one until I die.

I, like I assume many others, have no problem with immigration into the UK, provided it is properly managed. That is a big - even fundamental - proviso.

People from around the world are very welcome provided they go through the correct channels - but they need to be outside UK society 100% of the time their application is being assessed. That, alone needs to be laid down as a fundamental, non-negotiable condition.

It's not rocket science and it's not even political - both Labour & the Tories before them followed exactly the same path, so it's not (caring) left vs far-right..

Tinkering around the edges is not going to help. Un-assessed illegal immigrants need to remain outside UK societies (and, preferably, the UK) until their application for asylum has been approved. This is not political - it's a clear function of the state.

And don't forget to remember from what dangerous country these people escape to arrive in the UK.

I don't have a problem with posting non-football stuff (West Ham is bigger than just what goes on on the pitch and it's normal people want to read and share views of non-football things amongst their West Ham peers) and I am pretty liberal on what people should be allowed to post but I think there is another problem and that's the proliferation of posts on immigration. Yes, free speech and the risks involved are not new - and certainly something that cannot be laid at the door of the internet and/or social media.

The bigger worry is that if you speak out in opposition to the state and it's way of doing things, certain incidents - totally accidental, of course - will start impacting your life.

If the state are so concerned that a significant portion of the public will be influenced by certain aspects of free speech, who was responsible for educating that public to that level in the first place?

The difference between free speech online and free speech down the pub is down the pub you might get banned or punched or glassed. I’m not condoning any but there is speech and raw power. In the physical space raw power is exerted all the time, much to the surprise of some who think speech is in fact separate.
