Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation

"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

"Watching Kane trot about last night (and for most of the tournament, to be fair) was painful."

"We need a cold hearted killer not everybody's mate as head coach Someone who doesn't give a fuck about how he might upset Kanesy or Bellers or Fodes by taking them off Kane should have been hauled off at half time, not this clown, he wastes another 15 minutes prevaricating He's not a good coach, in fact he's tactically naive and inept"

"Ah, another tournament England ought to have won but didnt because Southgate is inept. We'll look back at this period wondering how we didn't ever win anything despite having the best crop of players for years and the easiest draws we've ever seen. Croatia for a world cup final, a not the best Italy to be euro champs and then a Spain side that were eminently beatable. A decent manager wins at least two out of three of those games. So....... we signed a striker yet?"

"There was a lot of West Ham about it: Sat in a low block Constant hoofballs giving it away Most creative player shoehorned into the wrong position Not playing until you’re 0-1 down Comments from the BBC panel as well, “if you’re going to play that way then you have to win”"

That was like watching West Ham under Moyes. Southgate taking the piss even more though by having some great players at his disposal. Got them playing negatively aswell as out of position. Bellingham left wing? May aswell have had ward prowse there. Painful to watch.

"Just watched Southgate's presser, he isn't ruling out staying on at all, said he needs to speak with the FA etc (which is what he said after Qatar) said this group of players are going to be around for another 2-6 years and bigged himself up two finals blah blah, couple that with the FA and no doubt most of the players wanting him to stay on I fancy he might not be done just yet, despite all the flak he's had which he admits has hurt him. Was asked why we didn't press on after levelling and he blamed it on fatigue, a few players have been carrying knocks, previous games that went into extra time etc, why he may have a point that for me is weak, if you are 10 minutes and just one goal away from history wouldn't sheer adrenalin drive you forward?"

"It's all been said countless times, but you don't pick players and then decide the formation, it has to be the other way around. If you don't you can end up with a left back playing left wing-back and a right winger playing right wing-back and that can leave you unbalanced and somewhat open."

Williams particularly was outstanding throughout Very impressed Sir Geoff Hurst being interviewed outside Saka’s school on bbc breakfast. Looking very well & sharp

"Would we have taken getting to the final and losing before the tournament? NO, but at least this way we had hope right up until the last minute (literally) and had a vested interest right till the last whistle, so I'll take that as a positive when you think we probably should have gone out to a load of East European plumbers in the last 16. I gave Southgate the benefit of the doubt before this game but I think he let us down, no it wasn't all his fault but he has to take the brunt of it and that seems to be the wider opinion. Thanks for the two finals but it's time to let someone else have a go with this squad of players. Back to West Ham it is then, christ, thank fuck Moyes has gone."

Nico Williams and lamine yamal are everything our media love to pretend zaka and foden to be . Proper world class . Can genuinely see the Spaniards dominating in the coming tournaments plus they were missing Pedri Gavi and there best 2 left backs . As well . We lack something whether it's the tactics being used . Causing it I'm not too sure . Bowen was criminally underused as well .

"Got what we desrved from a fuckwit manager that's best success in the tournament came from the very few minutes he had to make the team attack, as we were losing. Rice said the players want Southgate to stay on. Should ask the PR hungry cocksuckers at Arsenal and Man City who they'd prefer, Guardiola/Arteta or Southgate. Then we might actually address the real problem."

While the Idiots in charge keep playing Tottenham players. Or Ex Tottenham players. The national team will keep failing. Hopefully that’s the last of the waistcoat we see.?

Aside from some poor distribution I can’t fault Pickford for this. No chance with either goal and made some saves that kept us in the game. Can’t believe after the game Southgate admitted Kane isn’t really fit and it’s been a struggle for him. DON’T FUCKING PLAY HIM THEN.

"My thoughts as a neutral, who would have preferred England to win. I agree with all of the comments about Southgate. He's a great 'man manager' (the players love him) but his tactics and team selection were pitiful. Everyone was saying it from the start. The space Williams had for his goal, and again a couple of minutes later was scandalous. He had time to enjoy a picnic and still score. I've heard that Lampard is on the shortlist as Gareth's replacement if he does pack it in. I'm sure that will please a lot of you. Don't feel too down. At least you get to experience these finals, unlike us Welsh. Even our rugby is shit at the moment."

What summed it up for me was when we scored we had a period of probably 5 mins where we looked like we might score again.. we then had a throw near their 18 yard box the ball went all the way back to Pickford and then that was it we just didnt have the ball til they scored... just keep the pressure on them Pickford was awful shouldve done better with both goals and his distribution was woeful...

"If you‚Äôre going to pick players from the biggest clubs regardless of form then you have to utilise what their used to Playing on the front foot, dominating games and pressing the opposition whenever you lose possession We never did that once We‚Äôd lose possession and then it was all hands back in defence This comes from a manger that‚Äôs never played for a big club and has no idea how to play that way Sack this cսnt and let him continue making a living off Pizza Hut for being a loser"

‘ Gareth Southgate is to England as was Roberto Martinez was to Belgium’ 100%. The generation of players will waste away under him just like Belgium under that joker. And an incredibly talented Portugal team in the last few years.
