Paqueta on the left, then? Perhaps if he can work well with Emerson like he used to do, but surely Summerville on the left wing - you know, an actual left winger - would have been the logical choice?

Areola dropped. Todibo had late fitness test. Rodriguez preferred over Soucek.

The shape and balance looks better in central midfield and more setup to keep possession.

We've got slim pickings at GK with Areola off form. Neither can distribute.

Shame Todibo misses out. Mavropanos feels a worse bet in our high line than him with much less recovery pace.

Thought Summerville might have started today. Areola dropped, and I’m assuming Todibo has a knock (and maybe Soucek too).

No idea why I feel we’re going to win this other than the general expectation that we’re in for a caning.

We’ll pretty much know as soon as we see the starting line up though.
Course we won’t you fucking moron.
When the line up comes out, you post up the result and we’ll see how wrong you get it.

Completely disagree he needs to drop two of the midfield three of Rodregues, Soucek and Paqueta. He simply needs to start a midfield that can control the ball, pass, move and tackle without getting carded, fouling or giving it away to creat danger. He’s got the personnel for this and simply needs to use those players properly.

Think Loppys tactics and ill fitting selections for those tactics will be exposed again unfortunately.

We still concede 2 a game on average so on course for 70+ goals conceded again. Midfield personnel available dont fit the 3-2-5 in transition set up he always follows.

Need to score a few goals to compensate.

He has to drop two from Rodriguez, Soucek and Paqueta IMO but probably wont. Even then no guarantee that Alvarez can be the difference maker as he is not the quickest. Its part of why he gets so many cards, a second or two late because he does like to challenge.   Last hope is Soler adding some legs but thats a non starter as his game is creativity not work rate. He needs to stop Wan Bissaka and Emerson bombing forward exposing the “running in treacle” like midfield cover.

So its hard to see a way out of the poor run of results with this coach and squad  ( mostly midfield ) that are clearly not suited to his tactics / way of playing. He needs the Jan window to have a chance assuming he knows no other way of playing but thats notoriously a bad one for getting the quality of player needed.

The most telling sign of Loppys continued blindness to his midfield / tactical mismatch is that he is allegedly begging for another central forward in Jan.  Yes we definitely need to replace Antonio and have a replacement for Fullcrock if he’s in the West Ham forwards graveyard, but its actually a lower priority.  You could have Haaland up there but need to get him the supply from midfield and also gave him scoring 3 a game as that midfield will continue to give space and lead to conceding a lot of goals imo

Im a pessimist when it comes to West Ham ( you dont say Alf 😉 ) as 55 of the 65 years following West Ham have been underachievement for the size of our following.  We had a brief 2 season high under Moyes, the Conference win papering over the descent in league performance in years 3 and 4 of his tenure and now back to where we always seem to end up. Flirting with relegation 🥴

Can't say I'm up for this at all.. As usual have no idea what to expect, just hoping some sort of identity in our tactics and play becomes apparent..

Thanks Stubbo.

Can't call it, really is just going to be on the day, but if they score first I think we'll be fucked.

Same as Mex, have to wait an hour longer. I note this isn't being screened in the UK.

Morning
Really up for this, but have to wait a bit more with the hour change.
Althletic in Alan's papers says Bowen can win this for us. I like that!
Thanks Stubbo
