"Succession is first class, well worth investing the time in to watching that. My dad had recommended it for ages and I finally succumbed to watching it about a month ago and ploughed through all of the first two seasons and been watching the 3rd as it drops each week. Brilliant viewing, well acted with brilliant characters."

"Just ploughed through the last series of Bosch. Brilliant as usual and can't wait for the next series where he becomes a PI, especially as it would appear the same crew (writers, directors etc.) are involved so should maintain it's high quality. Also just finished the last series of What We Do In The Shadows. Fucking great that they're making another series. Am struggling a bit with Stath Let's Flats, seems like a bit of a one trick pony, to me at least. Hope it improves or I'll sack it off. I've heard Succession is good (?) so will probably give that a go next."

"Regarding Mons... The battle was a strategic victory for Germany, as the British stand at Mons slowed, but did not stop, the advance of the German army into France. The British suffered some 1,600 casualties, with losses concentrated especially in those units which occupied the canal salient. As many as 5,000 Germans were killed or wounded in the one-day engagement. These totals were comparable to 19th-century battles between European powers, such as those that occurred during the Crimean War (1853–56) or the Franco-German War (1870–71), and gave little indication of the bloodshed that would become commonplace on the Western Front. https://www.britannica.com/topic/Battle-of-Mons-1914 Oh and very good series that Our World War After reading the book rewatched the other night the SAS Rogue Warriors series... superb book great viewing... will be interesting to see if the new series will do the book justice... https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/2021/sas-rogue-heroes-first-look/"

...and for anyone remotely interested in military history it's easily one of the most magnificent war memorials in the world and the Canadian Army still posted there would love nothing better than you to try and deface it. You would have more holes in you than a Swiss cheese.

SurfaceAgentX2Zero 11:35 Tue Nov 23 Well spotted. Pretty much anyone other than historians - and certainly not those in 'the arts' - have simply never been able to get over the simplistic 'lions led by donkeys' narrative that took root after post-war disillusionment. It's a great disservice to those who fought and died.

"Watching 'Invasion' - an Apple TV series. Ok and quite intriguing bu,t as always, they seem to love padding these series out a bit when it could get to the point a lot quicker. Have to keep watching now though as its hard to fathom the outcome."

"There's a new Amazon series ""The Wheel of Time"" which is absolute shite. It's not the new GOT. for sure. I actually read the books as a teenager and I don't seem to remember them being this bad. Generally I don't quite understand Amazon and their attempt to rival Netflix as a streaming entertainment option. I mean this so low budget and it's like SiFy channel. Why they'vre got the dosh surely."

"I never watch ITV as the ads get on my tits, but now you can pay £3 a month and get it ad free. So I watched Fearless, starring the late, great Helen McCrory. Very good it is too."

"Just started watching ""the lost symbol"" on Sky, which is based on the Dan Brown book. Bit shit, to be honest. Doesn't feel the same not having Hanks playing Langdon. Easy watching though."

"Just watched that Our World War. Pretty good and quite accurate as to the facts. But what horrible little BBC Remoaner cսnt added the caption at the end that said, 'Mons was a humiliation for the British'? It was so far from being a humiliation that it is regarded as a victory for the British (or at least a draw) by most historians on both sides. The BEF achieved its objective (to prevent the French being quickly surrounded and annihilated) against insurmountable opposition and retreated in good order. They were only forced to withdraw by the collapse of the Cheese-Eaters on their right flank. Far from being humiliated, the BEF's performance that day was a huge boost to its morale."

jfk 9:54 Sun Nov 21 Agreed thought that was brilliant viewing. The one where our professional troops meet the German conscripts for the first time at Mons was captivating. Totally authetic. What a hero that Captain....shot 3 times and still manning the machine gun.
