Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)
I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season
Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit
We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge
But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

Re: Lopetegui
It’s the Catch 22. To get the job you have to impress Sullivan
To impress Sullivan you have to be totally unsuited. And cheap
Biggest mistake preseason was letting Amorim meet Sullivan rather than just signing him.

Re: Lopetegui
I said I'd give him til Christmas when he was appointed. That's another 9 games away and by then we'll either be bang in trouble or reach a position of relative safety with only a mid table position for 'comfort'.
Agree he was a cheap option and tho I was happy when Moyes went, the overall improvements have been hard to spot. The club may have a big decision to make in the new year but i really dont see us moving forwards until Sullivan goes/sells up.

Ha, ha, ha you could not make this shit up. Loads of posts on here about Lopetegui's poor, broken English AND YET he still somehow managed to impress the Board. Ha, ha we are an absolute fucking joke!

Re: Lopetegui
Kretinsky isn't going to put up with this manager. For much longer. Forget the dwarf. He's a useful idiot. The real power lies with DK . If he wants the Welsh russian hat wearing ponce .gone from out the club. He will do exactly that .

The midget cսnt needs to sell up and retire and we need ownership who are prepared to pull the right strings and pour money into making the right appointments and signings. That's the ONLY way this club moves forward (much like Villa have).
Lop was a convenient and probably cheap option who has one iffy season at Wolves to stand on PL wise (cant compare to Spanish league tenure).
A complete gamble IMO.

We said give him time and we said this might be a transition season of mid table medeocracy.
Now it is becoming exactly that and we don't like it.
Agree it's not looking great right now and he's picked the wrong games to have a stinker, against some of our most bitter rivals.
But I for one will get behind him because the alternative is we stink the place out, make it an even shitter match day experience for us and for the players, and embarass ourselves in the process.
The easiest option is to turn on him and get on his case.
The hardest thing to do is be more patient and have some faith that he will turn things around.
Don't take the easy option.
Good post
my only problem with it is around transition, I could deal with that if I could see some positives in what has been delivered so far.

Re: Lopetegui
Loves to use the term “in this moment” about everything that goes wrong.
Ok not a native speaker but its an easy way out to minimise fundamental problems as if they ate only temporary and fixed next game.
”in this moment we were shite and I was clueless”

Re: Lopetegui
There's no way in a million years . Given the money spent. That relegation can even be considered an issue . But if anybody could get one of the richest clubs in world football relegated. Sullivan is the man to do it . It's rumoured kretinsky is beyond pissed off with him . Sullivans god is money . And I suspect kretinsky will be forced to pony up the readies to get him out the door .

Re: Lopetegui
He's a fucking fraud, seen it all before. He ain't fixing it because he can't even see what's broken. The easy option is to ignore the obvious and delude yourself it'll all work out. Don't pick the easy option, we did that with Avram. The hard option is to admit your mistake and move early to correct it not mince about like a soy feed cuckold.

Re: Lopetegui
I've never been one for wanting a manager sacked hastily, but it's obvious this bloke is not going to work out.
No signs of improvement, no grounds for optimism, doesn't seem to have any sort of plan.
I thought it was a strange appointment at the time.
Wrong bloke for the job, simple as that.
Lopetegui out.

Re: Lopetegui
Another hopeless addition by Sullivan. Except keeping Wolves up, he's shown nothing to lift us to the next level.
I been sitting on the defence for the guy to prove me wrong, but 8 matches in, and i cant see what he is trying to other than putting in a couple of new faces.
We look like a Moyes team, just a little bit more naive. We are badly structured, and he cant find his best XI
Only thing in his defence - we still hasnt got a striker. But any striker in the world couldnt fix our sad midfield.
So, for me: Sullivan you fucking prick! You havent got a clue!

Re: Lopetegui
It was obvious to me all summer than this fella is a loser and I said we would be battling relegation under 'loser Lop'. Naturally I was ignored and sneered at, but yet again I have been proven to be right.
We are stuck with the loser though for at least a few more weeks. Sullivan would never sack a manager after back to back defeats against Tottenham and Man Utd while the club is still outside the relegation zone (we currently have a 4 point buffer so defeat next week still doesn't put us in the bottom three).
The Forest away game on 2 November and home game against Everton on 9 November will be the big litmus test. Fail to win either of those (a likely scenario) and Sullivan might succumb to the pressure to pull the trigger.

Re: Lopetegui
Sullivan has Premier League survival as his priority. That's what makes his pile of money bigger every year. And it's all he cares about apart from fearing supporter riots.
The historical managerial appointments by Sullivan largely show us that our traditions of attacking football count for nothing in his mind. I wouldn't mind if he ever got it right but he never does except when he appoints a "survival " manager and that always ends up boring the fans to death.
Young Sullivan gave away that Kretinsky demanded a Director of Football to take over Sullivan's interfering ways. Predictably, Sullivan couldn't leave such a crucial decision on such an important post as Manager so, first offered the post to Moyes. When Moyes said "no" to reporting to a DOF, Sullivan then ensured someone like Amorin, without PL experience, wasn't picked. I remember him being rubbished by Sullivan at the time. Apparently Lopetegui was the solution according to Sullivan. Is anyone really surprised that Sullivan has probably got it wrong yet again?..

I want any West Ham manager to do well. But this guy is so out of his depth, and over-promoted, it isn't even funny. Unless you're a Spurs fan.

Re: Lopetegui
According to his post-match interview, he told the Standard: "“Maybe I have to improve, too, my translation with my players, for sure.”
He acknowledged he couldn't communicate effectively with his players during that crucial period when we conceded three goals at the start of the second half.
I'm sorry, but that is EXACTLY what we have football managers for. Some people will sneer, but you have to be able to get your messages across quickly. Because, as we saw yesterday, games will slide away from you quickly if you're struggling and don't make changes. You don't have to be George Sanders - and I couldn't care less what accent you have - but you do need to be able to communicate.

Re: Lopetegui
Is there another manager in the league with worse spoken English?
You do switch off listening to him. That can’t help the players
Just watching an interview with Slot on Sky. I know he is Dutch but speaks better English than most Liverpool fans

Re: Lopetegui
Some people will sneer at this, but I'm going to say it because Lopetegui last night admitted it himself: but his poor spoken English is not helping him either.
He's still interviewing partially via an interpreter, because he fails to fully understand simple questions like "what went wrong today?". If you watch his BBC interview back, there's an interpreter off-camera who confirms the questions in Spanish.
He admitted last night (I saw it via the Evening Standard website) that he's struggling to communicate with his players quickly enough in English. I get the impression that he's not a great communicator in Spanish anyway, but his still-broken English won't help when he's on the training ground trying to explain THAT very odd zonal thing with full-backs to players who have never played that way, probably think it's shit and don't want to play that system.
Not his fault but, tonally, his English is also poor because he barely distinguishes between his words. So you just switch off listening to him. Imagine that on the training ground every day, when he's trying to get you to play a brand new system with brand new players. He doesn't exactly strike me as the sort of manager who is ever going to give a shot in the arm - or a kick up the arse - when his team is struggling.

Re: Lopetegui
I want him to succeed and I see some hope that overall we are better generally. There have only been a couple of strange tactical decisions. Playing seasons players in the first game in preference to the new signings wasn't a great idea. Putting Alvarez in the back line against Chelsea lost us the game as it caused total confusion in the defence and led to at least two of their goals. We had more possession than Chelsea, more shots on goal and more corners - we weren't bad overall. The Spurs performance wasn't too bad until the usual player misplaced passes/fuck ups etc. We should have got a point our of the Villa game and we gave Man City something to think about in the second half. The poor sod has probably never come across players who don't give their all and randomly do stupid things. Now is the time for him to recognise it and sort it out. If he can then we'll be flying, if he can't then it's time to go.
Re: Lopetegui
If you look at the 8 games so far, I’d say every performance has been much of a muchness.
We were poor 1st half at Palace and away at Fulham but got away with it. Yesterday was a very similar performance but against a team who took their chances.
Same at home v Ipswich, the result was decent but at 1 each they had chances.
We’re just too easy to play against, bit like Pellegrini towards the end when we should have replaced Noble and had an unreliable keeper.
