Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Because we cant shift Cornet, Aguerd, Dinos, JWP abd wven Emerson, Im now preparing for Sullivan refusing to sanction the purchase of the 2 young, athletic, energetic, pacy centre mids we need and the 2nd striker we need.  Diouf and KWP and a new goalkeeper ( who I suspect is next thru the door) will not be enough to see much improvement.  The talk about Elliott and Morton, Fernandez from Southampton or the young lad at Leicester will continue but suspect nothing will happen.

Only chance now I see of getting some of the needed 4 players is if we sell Alvarez for a decent fee. Tbh he is probably the most saleable other than the “untouchables” like Bowen and AWB?

The problem is for the vast majority of clubs in Europe even 50k euros a week is a massive stretch and extremely unaffordable. There are only 2-3 clubs in most of these countries that have always been able to exist on a money is no object basis but they ain't signing players that were passed up on in the first place. If you've signed the wrong player and you're paying them upwards of 50k a week then you are fucked when it comes to selling them on. Unless you have a half decent player on your hands.

This is why you need a proper scouting network that does it's due diligence rather than relying on the word of an agent that is looking to clear the chaff from their books.

I see KWP has been announced on the OS, didn’t look for the cringe unveiling video, maybe still being edited?

Welcome to WHU though, let’s hope he’s as good as the other double barreled defender in AWB👍

Was reading about the Belgian centre half de Winter at Genoa
23 & can play all across the defence
Highly rated and available for about £20m with Genoa keen on Cornet who was there last season
Seems a no brainer as could then shift Mavropanos (or Aguerd if he wants to go) to pay for the whole thing

im so disappointed he didnt work out for us. But whats going on with Roma, stevie wonder must be scouting for them - or its a money racket.
Be really interesting to see if he does well there or not. That loan to us was mystifying. Definitely more than meets the eye to it

No thanks to all of them.

Sounds like the Leicester keeper will be next through the door.

If we can get Vieira cheaply it's a no brainer!

Yeah, I know. Unless Potter wants to play the wingers more like forwards running the channels with the striker playing deeper like a false 9 then I guess it'll be 541.

In an interview on the official site back in March, Summerville said that "our coach [Graham Potter] wants me to be more of a left winger and be the best one-on-one player".

So unless he's changed his mind again it suggests that Potter wants to play a 343 wide formation. Personally I don't like it as it often ends up being a very defensive 541, with the striker isolated and a weak central midfield. I'd prefer a 352 or even the 343 box formation with two CAMs behind the striker. Anyway, I guess we'll get a better idea from the upcoming friendlies.
The two latter ones don't really have a place for him do they unless of course he's played out of position like Bowen and Kudus were a lot of the time, both looking poor while they were.

I think Grealish is a talented player but needs to get away from Peps straitjacket tactics & play somewhere where he can play in his creative Villa role
If he is on £300k a week City would have to pay two thirds of his wages so isn’t happening

Id be more interested in young hungry player like Mateus Fernandes (JWP in part exchange?) or the Leicester player El Khannouss (£22.5k buyout I read)

I said earlier I’m not interested in signing famous PL players like Grealish etc
and I dont think he’d come here anyway unless we doubled his salary or something.

However, for Villa didnt he play anywhere across midfield in a more free role? It looks to me that he could play that combative CAM role pretty well. I think the whole winger thing has been detrimental to his overall game.

But he ain’t coming here anyways…

We still need someone with a bit of size & energy as a ball winner in midfield even if we get someone like Elliot or more likely the Leicester or Southampton midfielders
What happened to this Ondeyika we were linked with?

Just seen FGU has asked the same

Any chance we might still sign this Onyadika fella? Sounds like the energy we need in midfield and it would be marvellous to revive The Hokey Cokey, as sung by us in the 70s, as The Onyadika. Ooh Raphael Onyadika, knees bend arms stretch  ra ra ra!

YouTube has much to answer for! Bring back OLAS and the other fanzines, far better than these twats claiming to be in the know.
He didn't say Bowen was leaving he said there was a rumour that he was leaving which is completely different,. And admitted that the thumbnail was clickbait... Worked then as you clicked on it FYI nearly every single YouTube thumbnail is clickbait, its the whole purpose of them.. You dopey cսnt.

With KWP signing completing this weekend, that is some much added pace to the back line with Diouf as well, defence nearly sorted for Potter, I would imagine.

On to midfield now with Elliott, Morton, Fernandes and the Leics player linked, not to mention Jack Grealish and Luiz. Guido and Irving to leave I would imagine, possibly Alvarez if we get to keep Paq and we also have Potts and Earthy to look at.

Second striker also needed, CB?
