"Was wondering what they will do with the congestion charge when EV’s became widespread. Well I wasn’t wondering really as it’s always been obvious that the charge was another inelastic revenue creating tax and has nothing to do with stopping car driving or pollution by cars. He has contracts with set revenue amounts for the operators of the charge and so a goal of no cars in the capital is really not the ambition. He also uses the tax to fund his tube upgrades and Covid hit him hard for that money so I imagine getting paid is a much bigger deal than enticing people to buy EVs. How mental is that? You have a whole ULEZ thing going about how poulltion is killing people yet the big incentive for clean cars in the capital you’ve just taken away! And I remember clearly that the charge was set up to tackle congestion because it was causing pollution! Not just because it was causing traffic jams. If it’s about congestion then that only affects the car drivers themselves. So why not ask them if they’d rather spend 15 quid or sit in a jam? There are now numerous bus lanes and cycle lanes in the capital, everything is 20mph as well so no one is going to die being hit. when Ev’s are 100% there is no justification for the charge beyond it being mainly just a revenue maximising thing. And it hasn’t even stopped jams anyway! Just ban cars if you don’t want them there or license cars for specific days by there number plate. The charge is unfair. Rant over .."
