We are falling into the same trap.
We aren't leaving a striker up, getting deeper and deeper.
No outlet.
It really isnt the way to do it especially as arsenal defence are just as fast as Bowen / Kudus so we won't outrun them.
Just leave Kudus in the middle at least, like we used to with Antonio.

I’m seriously pissed off to see Alvarez starting. He’s got to be the slowest and worst player in the squad. Shows how desperate we are for him to be playing.

That Nwaneri will be a test although I suspect Scarles knows him from youth and U21 days?

Bowen and Kudus are in for a tough afternoon. Arsenal have a strong back line and full backs. I guess he is sticking Kudus wide left and Bowen right with Soucek this time perhaps being a false 9 if we do ever get the ball and a number 10 when we don't have it although he will probably just be deep alongside the other 9 outfield players in a Moyes "Alamo" style set up?

No matter what lineup Potter would dish up we would have been looking shit one way or the other.
The squad is laughably bad considering the amount of money spent on it.
Season is over, let's see what Potter can do come next season. Massive clearout coming, and rightly so.
Completely agree, and what a depressing lineup all thanks to our stupid fucking cսnt of an owner.

That squad.
that double CDM thing.
why why why?
When has it worked for us?
no matter what happens elsewhere on the pitch they will tear through our midfield. It’s done already.
We will end up taking one of them off to chase the game which will make you wonder why not start with the team you will end up finishing with?
What is it with our managers?? What do they see that we don’t?
(very happy if I’m proved wrong mind you!)

I think in that central area, he's stuffed to some extent whoever he picks. Its weak so I suppose he's going for 3 with Soucek more of a no 10 since he is the "slowest of the slow".
Hiding to nothing really but got to hope we give them a game of some sort. Seen so many games in the last 3 seasons, against the rich 4 or 5 clubs, where we just roll over.

I'm honestly struggling to see how we can get forward with just two attacking players in the team. You've now got people comfortable that he's not only going with five at the back, but also using three to protect the five. I hope it works, but to me this is a more negative approach than the previous two managers. Zero fucking ambition, and we'll be lucky if it isn't another Attack vs Defence session for Arsenal
I tend to agree...although I'm comfortable that Wan Bissaka and Scarles are both of a mind to presss forward properly...but going with the 3 central mids in the absence of Paqueta, instead of starting with Ferguson or Guilherme or even Soler, is poor.
The return of the Soucek-Ward Prowse axis of shit....has never ever worked...don't see that changing today.
In general I'm on with the 3-4-3 he's played before at Brighton etc....as long as when he has the option Summerville or a player if that ilk is starting at right full back, and the two number 10s are proper attacking players.
Scarles has played midfield and left wing for the yoofs, so he's not really an out and out defender. Wan Bissaka one of our most progressive players this year going forward....but that Soucek-Alvarez-Ward Prowse combo....just so weak, one paced and lacking in the ability to pass the ball forward (if at all).
stubbo, I'm perfectly happy with the two wingbacks (scarles is the best crosser of a ball at the club) but you play this system so you can commit an extra attacking player through the middle, and he's not even trying that. hammers chat saying soucek's the third attacking player

I really don’t understand why Ferguson isn’t starting
he managed 45 minutes last week
surely he can go more this week
would of made far more sense to start him and then sub him in the second half if he starts getting knackered

Todibo! Finally. Fucking hope he’s ready to play. Massive vote of no confidence in mavropanos having Cresswell start over him. To be fair when Cresswell was third cb it wasn’t so bad so hope that continues.
Id rather we started Ferguson on Thursday so I’m ok with that.

That all seems a bit hysterical tbf
...and I'd like to have seen him start too but what on earth has Ferguson's fitness got to do with Todibo's?
Because if Ferguson is being judged that he’s not fit enough to start, then theres no way Todibo can be match fit to start either, he didn’t even bring him on last week but now he’s starting
If it’s ok for Todibo to start, then it’s ok for Ferguson who actually has more match fitness
There's some proper twisted logic there mate. They're two different players
Cos we’re not talking about injuries, we’re talking about match fitness, Todibo hasn’t been involved in a competitive match for 2 months or whatever it is
he therefore has no match fitness which is a different thing to just being fit

On the official site, apologies if it's on here somewhere.
West Ham United: Areola, Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Cresswell, Scarles, Álvarez, Souček, Ward-Prowse, Bowen ©, Kudus
Subs: Fabiański (GK), Mavropanos, Emerson, Soler, Rodríguez, Irving, Luis Guilherme, Ferguson, Ings
I guess the only reason for Cresswell is that with three centre backs the only other option is Mavropanos! Expecting a pasting but hoping for a miracle.

Cresswell to being much needed pace and agility at the back ?
That said we tried what ended up looking like a back 4 first half against Brentford and Alvarez and Soucek the central midfield pivot but that was as wide open as Katie Price's legs so see why he is sticking with 3 in the middle especially as Odergerd is a danger man and creates so much for them. That said, even with 3 there and what will be a 5 at the back out of possession, I still see us struggling to get a keep it. Seems he's going with the approach he did at Villa and Chelsea which will to play on the counter which tbh is probably best suited to our current squad

All we’ve done is sack one lunatic and replace him with another
literally out of the frying pan and into the fire
how on earth can Todibo be fit to start but not Ferguson, there’s absolutely no logic in that whatsoever
and bringing back Cresswell
I don’t care how long he’s been here, his team selections scream that he hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing
