I just can't get past his awful ankle injury he suffered then paying a significant price for him after the severe PTSD I suffered from the demise of Ashton. I still wake up occasionally in cold sweats because of it.

I'd reluctantly pass up the chance of going for him but understand why others appreciate his talent, definitely not generational though ffs!

Yeah, but Dean Ashton was never the same player after his injury, whereas Elliott seems to have made a complete recovery. His ankle injury was 3-4 years ago and he's played in well over 100 games since then so it's clearly not crocked him. 

I accept it's probably more of an irrational fear, it's just for the money it would cost to get him it's not something I'd be prepared to risk doing. It's also worth remembering Ashton did return to play and had a decent season which culminated in getting his solitary England Cap before eventually having to pack the whole game in. So you can never be sure when complicated unpredictable ankle breaks may rear there ugly heads again. As you say Elliott appears to be over it, it's just buying him for big money woud make me very nervous. As a player he is good though. Say we did buy him and he stayed relatively injury free without it effecting his game, I'd be delighted. 

I recall Ashton referring to the injury he suffered being so bad his ankle joint sqeaked like a dog toy every time he made a step to walk. Think he had to have it fused in the end. Robbed of a highly promising career and of us of finally enjoying such a shit hot Striker in his prime. The West Ham Way..

He would be a great signing for us. Could also play on the right whenever Bowen is out or needs to play up front. Only way I see us bidding £40m+ for anyone at the moment is if we sell Paqueta though.

In many respects we have our own Elliot in the making in George Earthy and whilst you can perhaps get away with one relatively small and lightweight albeit skilful player in a premiership midfield, it would be unlikely they would lineup together. Anyway I am far from convinced that Elliot is good enough to be the playmaker we need. His best games for Liverpool have been wide on the right when substituting for Salah.

Reason I'm saying "give it a rest" is that you're clearly just using this as another stick to beat Potter with. Guaranteed that if Potter had started him in every game you'd have been having a go at him for playing such an out of form striker. And you'd have been right.

I can't help it if Potter did such a poor audition with zero pressure on him at the time. Whe he got it right, I was very pleased with how he picked up an impressive win at the Arsenal, or indeed his 1st game in charge at Villa where he instantly got us playing well. However beyond those rare moments of quality I thought he did a useless job ending up with a win ratio as 1 of if not the worst of any WHU manager. 

I think he's done a shit job of it as well and I doubt he'll get better, certainly not in terms of providing entertaining football. Don't mean I'm going to start making out like everything's his fault and poor players would actually be great under another manager.

I didn't back him non-stop, I criticised Lopetegui on a number of occasions when he was fucking it up like when we got dicked in matches under him for just one example.

Anyway, has the Slavia Prague player finally signed yet?

Hardly got on the pitch for us and can only guess he wasn’t showing enough off the pitch

Ferguson was shit for us when he played and he was not much better for Brighton last season either, which is why they happily loaned him out despite not exactly being flush with centre forwards themselves. The only thing to blame Potter for is bringing him in in the first place as he was clearly well off the pace and was obviously going to struggle, as I and a few others pointed out at the time. Even then we don't really know if the loan was down to Potter or a Sully special with few or no other options.

I think it was clearly apparent that Ferguson was so far off the pace that he wasn't anywhere near to being in an acceptable physical condition for a loan move to be beneficial to his fitness in the short term in the first fucking place.

So much so that when he was called up to the Rep of Ireland men's Team he scores and helps them win both matches during March.

 

Against Bulgaria who like Ireland are light years away from their mid 1990's peak.

My point was that he looked lethargic and turgid with us and not the mobile young prospect with strength and zip that burst onto the scene at Brighton.

He only played 151 minutes in 12 available games, so fuck knows how you can tell he was dogshit when he even managed to help his Team on International duty win 2 games whilst scoring in quick succession. 

Maybe, just maybe Potter fucked up mismanaging him, as he was clearly mobile and good enough for Ireland during that time. 1, 4, 8, 17, 21, 45 mins of Premier League Football at a time isn't enough to determine he's too unfit. He was never given a fair crack of the whip in 12 available games out of 14 and that's on Potter.
