Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)

I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season
Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit
We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge
But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

Currently has a win percentage in all competitions of 25%
currently has a win percentage in the premier league of 16%
currently averaging 0.83 points per game
so after telling me I don’t know how to read data, please inform me which West Ham manager has worse stats than that?
Oh you can read some basic data off a website, but you really think 6 league games is an accurate data set?
If you wanna compare like-for-like games you might have a benchmark.
it’s ridiculous trying to compare data after 6 games, 4 of which are teams currently in the top 6.

Wouldn’t start Antonio or Rodriguez
don’t think either are good enough to start in the premier league
but agree with the rest of the team
and yeah there are quite a few players that aren’t performing, but at the end of the day it’s down to the manager to motivate them and get the best out of them, also I think a lot of it is down to tactics and the lack of pace in this team, there’s only so much a player can do when there’s no one making any runs or trying to find any space, having 2 defensive midfielders is absolutely killing us, regardless of which 2 he picks from Rodriguez, Alvarez or Soucek, none posses any pace, the ability for quick passing or any sort of creativity
the fact it’s making no difference to the amount of goals we’re letting in whilst at the same time completely stifling our attacking options, it’s another huge issue that this manager is creating himself
I personally can’t wait for him to get the bullet, just hope it doesn’t take too long, I have no faith whatsoever that this bloke can turn it around, we’ll only improve because we can’t get any worse but I don’t think it’ll be enough to avoid a relegation fight

In 12 hours of football, he hasn’t once managed to incorporate all our best players into a starting XI despite the fact it can easily be done without a single player, playing in a position he has no experience playing in.
instead we’ve been treated to 3 defensive midfielders on the pitch at once, almost 2 months of Mavropanos giving away goals before the penny dropped, no youth team players being given a sniff of football, and Guido ‘fucking’ Rodriguez starting every bloody game despite him being the new Radoslav Kovac
For me, that’s unforgivable
Indeed. This would be my eleven against Ipswich:
Summerville Antonio Bowen
Kudus
Paqueta Rodriguez
Emerson Kilman Todibo Wan Bissaka
Not sure if you agree.
Soucek, Fullkrug (if fit), Ing and Soler looking to come off bench to impact.
No Alvarez? I know he's easy to forget, mind.
No. Not for me at the moment. Lope has killed his confidence with that sweeper bullshit. He looks a bit broken to me. I do like him but I think against Ipswich we will (hopefully) have more of the ball and I think Rodriguez just has that little extra composure on the ball. If Ipswich start to dominate middle then maybe introduce Alvarez.

The most worrying thing about it all, is that not one of our attackers has looked even half decent. Kudus has been shit (he at least has the excuse that he is being played in his worst position) Paqueta has been shit, Bowen has been shit, Antonio has been shit, Fullkrug when he's played has been shit, the one bright spark at times has been Summerville, but that is low hanging fruit as he hasn't been involved in a goal yet.
So either they're all shit, or there's something else going on. I know where I sit on that argument.
8 games into the season, and I'm yet to see 1 half of genuinely good football. I'm actually perplexed at how shit we've been.

One thing I would say though - Lope is taking alot of stick at moment. But if you look at the team. several players look like they are strolling and they own him a performance....Bowen, Paq, Antonio, Kudus...

is Maverick180180 the same person as Maverick180?
I do agree though that Paqueta needs players in front of him and play in the central two, and Kudus should be nowhere near the LW

Ipswitch looked decent yesterday, 3/1 on them sat looks very good value. We're shite.
Not expecting a win at all

Far from it.
A win is the important part, the performance is second.
The point is that it will hopefully be a gradual improvement which probably won’t be linear.
100%.
We might pick up a win against Ipswich and play brilliantly.
It doesn't mean we are fixed and will win every game afterwards with a new attractive style of play.
We will be shit in games again this season and probably pretty soon as he learns his best team and how to manage injuries and suspensions etc.

This is without doubt the worst manager I’ve ever seen at West Ham
His team selections are a disgrace, and the levels of performance and his substitutions aren’t far behind.
He plays more players out of position than Moyes, and he’s just been handed a tonne of new players so this doesn’t need to be done anymore
on their day I think most people would say our best two players are Kudus and Paqueta, yet they’re both having awful seasons
kudus’s preferred positions are either right wing or as a 10. Paqueta doesn’t play as a 10 for Brazil, instead he plays deeper and plays well there as he gets on the ball more, he also isn’t shy to get stuck in
yet it hasn’t once occurred to the prick to give that a go, which would also allow Summerville to start on the left, who must be thinking he’s ruined his career right now for moving here
and don’t get me started on the Brazilian kid who no longer plays any form of competitive football, once again because of our new manager
I was absolutely no fan of Moyes and wanted him gone, but would never of done so if I knew how bad the alternative was
and before anyone tells me to get a grip and there’s been way worse managers than Lopetegui, you should perhaps check that out statistically as he currently sits rock bottom in our entire managerial history for percentage of games won, and points per game

Think we'll start to improve under Lopetegui, he deserves a bit of time.

No. Unless we get thrashed by Ipswich or don’t win a single game until then. Which seems unlikely.

My point is that many promoted managers come under pressure very quickly when competing at a higher level where their teams understandably find it harder
While the managers that they outpointed in the playoffs carry on comfortably the next season
Id expect Martin would be confident his team could adapt and do better as the season goes on
The idea of sacking him this week is crazy

One thing - this should be considered a win game in a competitive league this season. He’s got to stop tinkering about and get on with it.

Anyone who thinks the point of being a manager is to get the sack and a payoff so that he can uproot his family to another city has drunk the modern football social media kool aid or is just simple
He signed a new 3 year contract after getting promoted for miles more money. He'll then get paid ALL of that if they sack him.
I'd imagine most sensible people would want to maximise their earners over their career. He wouldn't have got the wages he's on now, or the CV he has now if he wasn't in the Premier League.
You must be a bit of an idiot to think getting promoted for a manager is the worst thing that he (or THEY seeing as I'm talking to you) could have done.
Re: Lopetegui

by ,
The question concerning the promoted teams is will their squad be good enough because by and large their managers have proved their capabilities.
Thus another manager comes in with the same squad to deal with and not often very much money to enhance the best eleven. The odds of a promoted team staying up too are not favourable. If I were on the Southampton Board I would try and stick by the manager in the hope that he makes Southampton the fourth worst team in the division.

Having got Southampton promoted I imagine he’d like to establish them as a Premier league club
Getting sacked after 5 or 6 games when he has a record of success there?
Mental

Worst thing they can do?
Martin will get paid for doing less work, his stock has risen remarkably, and he'll be able to walk into another job.
It's probably his best case scenario.
