The excellent Elizabeth R from 1971 starring Glenda Jackson has recently been repeated on BBC Four. An excellent series. It is available on Daily Motion while some episodes are still available on BBC iPlayer.

"Nurse Ratched 1:40 Sun Mar 21 Surprised you didn't give it more of a chance, seeing as it's pretty much the closest series there is to The Shield. I don't think any series comes across too well if you don't start from the beginning anyway, unless it's one of those shows where the story is done and dusted by the end of each episode. Spiral does tend to have a new main story each season but it's very much character focused so you'd miss out a lot by watching mid way through the whole series."

"I tried watching Spiral, on gph's recommendation. I don’t know which episode it was, but I don’t think I started anywhere near the beginning. In the episode I watched, a female detective was teamed with a new male copper she had never met before. They started their investigation, and within about twenty minutes or so, she said to him (along the lines of) ""So, shall we have sex, then?"" At which point I rolled my eyes and switched it off. The French are extremely tedious."

"Yep, absolutely, so many sides to them as well...that's another good thing about it, people change and it captures that really well. Although when you say 'ugliness' I hope you're not talking about Laure? Won't have a bad word said about Laure."

"Totally agree Exeter on your summary of Spiral, It's refreshing to watch people acting who look like they are interesting characters even in their ugliness (if that makes sense) instead of us & the yanks casting the actors in their roles from line up in Love Island...."

"Side of Ham Rewatching the whole of Spiral, it's one of the best things I've watched on television. Leroysboots...kept meaning to reply, what's good about Spiral is it seems really realistic, lot of police dramas there's always a definite ending, but in Spiral there's things that remain grey areas and something that happened in series 1 will pop up in series 3, that the cases can be really ambiguous and you end up seeing so many sides as it includes the legal system as well. ANd then there's multiple hidden agendas etc The acting is brilliant as well and you get really into the characters. It's gritty and atmospheric and the filming is superb, you see a scene in Columbo and even though Columbo isn't in that scene, you know it's Columbo you're watching, even the colour of the film...Spiral is like that. It's just brilliant"

"Giacomo Mancini who plays Gem in Top Boy went to primary school with my boys Bousfield, Kensington. The janitor Mr Stamp is/was the brother of Terrance Stamp. Crown Prince or Norway and Rowan Atkinson's kids also went there. And no it's not a private school."

"I enjoyed Top Boy, Manuel. I think the latest series Netflix did after they bought the rights was just as good too. I've just started Yellowstone which I had never heard of before, but it's got Kevin Costner and it's about cowboys and indians, set in the present day. 8.6 on IMDb, and it's worth that score."

Just finished season 1 of mind hunter. Excellent viewing. Anyone still watching American gods? After an excellent first season it keeps getting worse. Huge fuck up as to what could have been. Ian mcshane is still brilliant though.
