Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)

I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season

Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit

We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge

But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

Before we got this person I was saying we should get Potter in but I think the Chelsea job has destroyed a bit of his confidence.

8 goals in two games is not a good record. Lets see about Brentford as others say I see some good things but that is then destroyed by our crap defending.

Need to chill out bit. If we don;t get a result at the weekend that’s when it’s time to complain. You don’t change manager, change out much of the squad, then immediately turn into world beater - unless you’re spending at the very top table or have inherited a top-notch squad.

if we put away the lesser sides then we will be fine, and have some, tie to build a system of play.

If your main criteria for the role of the man running the playing side of your multi million business, is, "is he out of contract?". Unless you get lucky you will always struggle

I'd go for Potter. Almorim is still managing Sporting and there is no way Sullivan will pay compensation to buy him out his contract (he has NEVER done that in all the years he has owned Birmingham City and West Ham United).

Potter is the best available out of the work manager. We need to bin off this Spanish loser pronto and get Potter in. Dithering Dave Sullivan won't be so proactive though and we will limp on ahead to an inevitable relegation battle under 'loser Lop'. This will be the 2010-2011 'Uncle' Avram Grant season all over again, with the key difference being that 'loser Lop' and 'guru Tim' have spunked £150 million on dross. What a shambles.

This is what the anti Moyes brigade believe but it won’t happen. I think they’ll try again for the Sporting Lisbon guy or if that fails Potter.

No point at all continuing this farce any longer, 9AM meeting, P45 and out the door by 9.15.

When a years old article was dragged up in the summer where it suggested he was a Spanish David Moyes I didn't have high hopes!

“I hate to say I told you so”.

Now, we all know that is a lie. You love being right more than West Ham winning. On the rare occasion we win, you disappear from the site.

I need to apologise to you COYI, I thought you were being a bit of a cսnt pre season with all the stuff about Lopetegui but you have been proved right.

I apologise.

I hate to say I told you so, but I did say all summer that this fraud is a loser and there is a reason he was sacked from every top job he has had bar Wolves (which he walked out of after half a season due to a hissy fit).

We are an utter shambles under him. I would sack him before Brentford. The plaster needs ripping off.

Chairmen who put up money for players. And being praised for that alone is lazy journalism at best. And awful punditry. If we are going on that metric. They would be throwing up statues of the Glazers at Old Trafford at a rate of knots.! When a nobody in the media rolls out that excuse. It's saying. They don't care. And are fucking clueless.! Sullivan knows this. And it will be the first line of defence he will hide behind. If the media ever ask him why the club is failing.?

I said at the time when he was linked that I wasn't too keen as it was obvious he'd been buttering Sullivan throughout the year, and he was linked to Salthouse.

I'd have gone with what the Football and Technical directors wanted.

I agree with a lot on here that there is a lot of noise and signs from the club that there are some issues in the background. But, one thing I would argue, you say the squad is a jumbled mess. I disagree. The squad potentially has "one of" the best starting elevens that I have ever seen in recent times. If Lope stopped tinkering, set up the best suited formation and told the players what their basic jobs were, and then utilised his subs properly throughout the game, then I am positive we would start winning.

Any supporter could look at that squad and put out our best eleven (probably bar a couple of differences here and there). Just pick the best eleven and play them in their favoured positions is the starting point. Stop all this integrating DM as a 3rd CB. Stop sending defending full backs to play as wingers. Keep it simple. Get some results and build from there.
Yes, that’s fair. I suppose I meant more that it’s assembled with one thing in mind and then attempted to be used in another way by someone else hence jumbled mess.

Absolutely though- just compromise a bit on the system and play the cards you’ve been dealt. Nevertheless we are in a position again where the tail seems to be wagging the dog and two key people aren’t on the same page in terms of what they want.
100%. Start basic and build. And when you say 'cards you have been dealt', that could sound a bit like having to make do. But, let's get it right. It's a bloody good hand. This would be my team:

                                           Fullkrug

Summerville                        Kudus                     Bowen

                         Paqueta                    Rodriguez

Emerson              Kilman                  Todibo              Wan Bissaka

                                            Areola

Others will have a different couple of players maybe, a different formation. But I think we can all agree its pretty much the best eleven. And I am not being funny, that team beats 70% of other PL teams on its day. I mean, seriously, if you cant nick more wins that losses with that side you shouldn't be in the job.

Yet you're happy to give him till Christmas?

Being realistic the club can only modernise so much with Sullivan remaining the defacto day to day chief as he has his way of doing things and his own perspective.
Yep, this is the root of it. If things don't improve and the fans start getting restless I hope they direct their ire at Sullivan rather than Lop. Sullivan going is the only way the club will ever move forward.

I wouldn't put it past Sullivan to appoint Moyes for a 3rd time or go for Southgate.
TBH Potter would be a decent choice but will probably be in another job by then.

Roots - Yep, we need it to work out or it will just revert to kind, it's not as if Lop goes we then go and get someone like Amorin, it will be a Moyes/Benitez/Dyche type. Potter at a push.

The difference now from before IMO is that Moyes was a bit of a company man, so he took a bit of shit from Sullivan, and Timmy was more in the background to a certain extent, but now we have three big characters, in their own right, all now at the forefront, so you would think something will give fairy quickly if results don't pick up.

I'm still confident and hopeful Loppy will come good, needs much more time than 5 games

My biggest concern is that if he doesn't work out Sullivan will revert to what he did after Pellegrini and appoint someone like Moyes again or even Moyes himself. He will see it as vindication.
This could mean Steidten leaving and us back to square one.
That's why I'm desperate for Loppy to come good.
