It looks like Moyes has won his battle with Steidten, and we're going full "Moyesball" this season with little input from the technical director. Much as I hate it, once the club insisted on sticking with Moyes then you probably have to let the manager do it his way - and give him enough rope to hang himself with, or succeed with. It would have been odd to back Moyes and then hamstring him by not allowing him to bu the players he wants. Maguire is a classic Moyes player - and will probably do well in the manager's system (in the way Zouma has and the likes of Jagielka did under Moyes at Everton). Big, strong, aggressive, threat from set pieces...and we did need a skipper to replace Rice. I don't really have a problem with signing Harry. He was never worth £80m at Man Utd, but we've signed an England regular for £30m and we now have a captain who likes to get stuck in. As with any West Ham signing, I hope he does well for us. But make no mistake, it's full Moyesball for us this season. Same with Ward-Prowse. Moyes has basically found his replacement for Noble (quite a similar player, bit less quality on the ball, much better with set-pieces: also a leader). I'm guessing he thinks Alvarez is as close as he'll get to a replacement for Rice. Who's the next Antonio to replace the ageing Antonio? Traore? Moyes is basically trying to replicate the squad he took to 6th and 7th.

At the end of the day a couple of signings is better than no signings at all. If we get both Maguire and JWP in at least we will have good leadership at the Club by signing two Captains. Maguire certainly will have a point to prove and is a left-sided central defender which was a problem area when Moyes was playing Zouma there. If we can step up again on our set pieces (JWP) taking them, then Maguire will also be a threat. He hasn't had the best of times recently but you don't have Man United paying 80 m for you if you are a bad player.

Why is everyone worried about his lack of pace? We play with 10 back in our own 3rd 80% of the time.

Anders - One of the main reasons given for ETH not picking him is his ability to play out from defence YouTube is full of his abysmal ball distribution. Dawson was error prone, scored own goals and often got caught out because of his lack of pace, if he'd cost £30 million nobody would have liked him. Oh and Manuel son, let's talk about the subject at hand not something from the past as you love to tell others when they pull you up. Oh and of course get a life son :-)

Superb signing in my opinion. Manchester United spunked £80 million on him only 4 years ago. He has multiple England caps and has recently captained the biggest club in England. What more could we want? To get him for £30 million is great business. He will undoubtedly improve a ropey, injury prone defence. I am not at all convinced by Aguerd. Too many howlers in him.

Very mixed feelings about this one. First of all, as ED said. Welcome, son! I would never have spent this much on a 30 year old, but it's it my money. I think we could spend the club money wiser. He is old and slow, and that's a fact. But, he is an upgrade of what we have, and with his personality and experience it can be what we need. I mean, what we need to stay above tje relegation zone. Short sighted move, but hopefully he can do a job for a couple of years. Good luck

Anders - fraser despised ballon Dawson, he also NEVER changes his view on a player once he has 'made his mind up' so you are wasting your breath there, son.

Fraser, Maguire’s distribution is better than any other CB at the club. As long as he plays alongside Aguerd who can cover his lack of pace. He’ll be worth 5-10 goals per season if we use him like England do too. Perfect Dawson replacement. As for Ward Prowse I’m concerned he is a luxury player, can’t seem to tackle

I'm not over enamoured, not because I think he's shit, he's clearly not, but it's really not the sort of signing I'd ideally want us to make. However, given the way we play, given the manager, given the lack of leadership in the squad, I'm gonna get behind the signing. I hate, fucking detest, the way we play. It makes my blood boil. But that's not gonna change this season, and this lad is gonna be our skipper, so let's back him and hope he's a Dawson upgrade, who was brilliant for us.

tempted to turn my nose up but reckon in our system he will return to form. Not often you get to sign the England captain for a fairly reasonable fee...

We sign a current England centre back and he's our worst signing ever. I wonder why Big Sam said we had deluded supporters?

Welcome to low block united and remember Harry son, no playing out of defence, just pass it back to Fab and he'll launch it in the direction of Soucek's head, but be ready it will come straight back..

I heard a tale that he checked in with Waistcoat to make sure playing for us wouldn't effect his England chances. Anyway, welcome son, it must be a long time since we had a regular England CB playing for us.
