"Taking to Twitter, the Italy international wrote: “Dear West Ham. “While my time in London didn’t go the way I had planned, some of my greatest life moments were made here. And for that I’m forever grateful Thank you to the players and staff for making me feel so welcome, and the fans for their continued support. “I will continue to support this fantastic club from home in Italy, and will be keeping in close touch with the lifelong friends I have made whilst in England Thank you for everything, Ciao.”"

"Said on the match thread yesterday, he had to get into the game because we did not change the way we were playing. We need to play into his feet if he drops deep or play direct and use his height. We did neither of those things and played the channels and didn’t get the ball in to the box. I think he will be a success if we can adapt. That is a big question mark given Moyes’s reluctance to change anything about the way we set up. Same with bringing cornet into the right. Why not put him on the other flank hoping he can get the ball in the box for our 6ft 5 striker. Mental"

"I think he may well suffer with Haller syndrome. A good player hampered by the system the manager plays. He needs players around him to lay the ball off to. Had zero support most the time yesterday. Would have thought the likes of Cornet, Bowen or Benrahma would be able to feed off him but that means us gambling sometimes and moving about more. The team is way too rigid, easy to defend against and needs some flair."

"He'll be fine. Needs a few games to get up to speed with the English game. Will be fantastic with Bowen, Antonio and Cornet running beyond him. May actually end up being a bit more of a provider than an out and out goalscorer but that's fine if he makes key contributions to us scoring, if he's not doing it himself."

"It's fine to change the formation, the way you play late on(ish) in games, it's normally what happens when subs come on anyway, which either means this fella is just gonna be a sub or we change tac when he starts? Neither seem great, do they."

"I'm not writing him off as a player - but i look at what we've seen, i look at all his major attributes and think ""how is this gonna work?"" Completely different type of forward to Antonio, so are we gonna play completely different when her starts? I'm desperate for him to succeed because he's Italian. I hope i'm wrong."

"Comparing the bloke to Haller, one of our worst signings ever, seems to be at least approaching writing the bloke off!"

"Not one person has written him off, they're just questioning how he fits in our system when Moyes is so rigid with his tactics. Seeing as what happened with Haller it's an understandable question. You do like to behave like a drama queen"

Written off after less than 1 hours football. A new WHO record.

Thought he was pretty poor when he came on yesterday. I hope I’m wrong but I just don’t see how this lad fits into the way we play and I just don’t see us changing our style of play to suit one player Hopefully he’ll get a start on Thursday desperately need a positive result and a positive performance to lift the mood

"his highlight reels are full of lovely one touch layoffs, flicks round the corner and other spur of the moment ingenuity. today we saw the times he tried that which didn't make the cut. he can certainly make things happen, but in this league he will also likely give the ball away a fair bit. moyes will either have to make his peace with that or put a lid on his more ambitious plays. he does remind me of haller, but the haller that played for us for the first month or so of the season before the roberto circus started."

"Me too. Instead Moyes insists on playing Antonio, despite his grand total of 4 goals from his last 30 PL games."

"I’d have fancied him to tuck that penalty away, if he was on the pitch, which he should have been."

The new Haller. Look forward to him banging them in for fun next season when we flog him for peanuts.

"Antonio is one of the biggest culprits for being fouled without getting a free kick. Not sure what he does about it. Refs seem to think that because he's obviously strong, defenders should be given more of a licence to foul him."

Utterly fucking ridiculous not starting him today. Once again moyes dithering is costing us points. He was our best player vs City in his brief cameo. Moyes sits on new players for months on end because he's a fucking negative cսnt

"Antonio has, imho, probably been one of the biggest culprits for giving the ball away this calendar year. I would be surprised if there was anyone else in the team that has conceded posessions more than him. granted, it's probably going to happen more as a striker but for any good he does in 90 minutes, he'll cock it up twice as often."

"Difficult match to come into and make an impact but there were some encouraging signs. Not going to get too excited as I thought Haller was brilliant for us in his first few matches, Particularly liked that he held up the ball and was strong. Didn't panic and was comfortable to hold it until there was an option to pass to."

"Agree on Firnals like the lad great attitude to the game and the club, but you cannot have someone with snail pace operating in a front 3 in the premier league. You could get away with it if he was making a few killer balls each game but they come about once in every 10 games. It just leaves you with a bloke in the attacking third who has a good attitude, which is no good to anyone at this level."

"At times = very, very rarely. He scored 6 goals in 54 games, and if I'm honest, I can't remember when he had a good game in which he didn't score. I'd say he's a bit more than just inconsistent. I'd say a sea of averageness with the odd good game in every 10."
