Kalvin Philips Done
Kalvin Philips Done
West Ham United is delighted to confirm the signing of England midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season. The 28-year-old joins the Hammers from Manchester City and could make his debut in Thursday’s Premier League fixture with AFC Bournemouth at London Stadium.
Re: Kalvin Philips Done
"A defensive midfielder certainly was required if you remember how badly we've played whenever Alvarez has been absent. In the 7 games he's missed we've only managed to beat Backa Topola, and conceded 5 vs Fulham, 3 vs Brentford, 2 vs Sheff Utd and lost to Bristol City in the cup. Fuck knows how bad it would have been if we'd played any decent teams in those absences. And as for him getting a long term injury at some point... People wouldn't be complaining about this loan if: a) we had already done what we should have done a long time ago and bought in a quality LW and a striker b) we thought of Phillips as a backup to Alvarez and/or replacement for Soucek, instead of being rightly disgusted at us playing 4 or 5 CMs in the same team."

Re: Kalvin Philips Done
"Like I say, the case he has lost the plot is losing ground to the one he has a different plot altogether. Moyes signs and plays an unfit, overpaid Man City benchwarmer; how are we supposed to interpret that?"
Re: Kalvin Philips Done
To think Toney has been out of competitive football for 9 months yet Phillips has had the freedom to train and play. The complete opposite of Toney who has hit the ground running. I do think this signing and the most ridiculous one in a long time will be straw that broke the camel’s back. Needed a striker for several years and decides to sign an unmaintained zero motivated expensive stop gap defensive midfielder that was not required at all Moyes you have a lot to answer for with this one especially with no replacements for our outgoing players on the left side Definitely lost the plot

"Hammer and Pickle 11:51 I can read perfectly well, thanks Emily. Your statement that 'The defense that Moyes is incompetent is growing thinner' would suggest that you think/assume the opposite to be the case?"

"Hammer and Pickle 11:51 I fully expect you to come back with some pithy word-salad reponse, but I'm reasonably sure the statement 'The defense that Moyes is incompetent is growing thinner' isn't REALLY what you were trying to say? 'Stronger' in lieu of ''Thinner' perhaps?"

"The defense that Moyes is incompetent is growing thinner with every decent player wasted, every prospect dicked around and with every horrible insipid performance. I think he’s more of a liability than just a bad judge of talent."
Re: Kalvin Philips Done
Whoever listened to Moyes is responsible. He has had the hots for Phillips since the WC but forgot to notice he hasnt really played since. Moyes cannot identify or recruit a quality player we need because what he thinks we need is a team of defenders? If anybody can finish a career its Moyes. Phillips making the Euro squad based on his time at West Ham? Long ords i woukd imagine just now?

"Payet also took a few games to get going but what are we talking about! If Philips had as much to offer as Tevez, Payet or Paqueta, he’d be a Man City regular. Instead he’s been brought in because Moyes wants to screw the club and Sullivan is a dozy old toxic dwarf who’s had his pants pulled down again by the English football mafia and can’t admit it."

Re: Kalvin Philips Done
Difference with Phillips and most of the aforementioned is we actually bought them so there was time to spend acclimatising and we were investing in them for us. Phillips is a 4 month rental. A very expensive one. There’s no time to dick about getting him up to speed or a grace period. He needs to contribute soon. But I don’t blame him for that. I blame our recruitment for making such a batshit crazy decision that’s for the moment just resulted in an extra headache for the team rather than anything else.
Re: Kalvin Philips Done
"Paqueta did struggle to adjust at first. And those with longer memories will remember Tevez and Mascherano looking slow and off the pace in their first few games. Pardew even preferred Haydren Mullins although by then i think the club knew we might be in trouble with the 3rd party ownership etc But Tevez i remember thinking he might be another siuth ameri an who cant make it in the Prem but he got fitter and stronger after 2 or 3 games and then just looked a class above everyone on the pitch regardless of who we played Not saying phillips will do that but he should improve and having paid a bundle for him Moyes should play him even if its just getting him fot. He needs to start deeper in the holding role that Alvarez has for now so he has the game in front of him and actually release Alvarez to go forward as hes more skilful and can protect it well as he’s very strong on the ball imo Just stop playing Soucek and Coufal, pit Kudus central and Bowen right and Cornet left. At least try that as its gets almost everyone in the best positions and the limited Czechs out the team . Good lads but we need to pass far better, transition faster and they are both not up to it"

Re: Kalvin Philips Done
When Paqueta first came here there were loads moaning him giving away possession and his passes not coming off. Lucky for him he was further sup the pitch and has learnt not to have the ball too much......

He needs time to adjust... our midfield cant pass it around like Man City god knows what we do in training... I think he'll do okay in the long run.

Re: Kalvin Philips Done
signing a player who has been at man city for two seasons (and bielsa before that) generally seems like a bad idea for a moyes team. he'll need to be reprogrammed to remove all the football from him before he starts to excel in our midfield.

Re: Kalvin Philips Done
Reckon Sullivan acted on Moyes's recommendation and possibly against Steidten's. May actually be a silver lining to this.

"COYI, fair enough. Didn't realise that ever you praised any of our players. Reason being, when you take a dislike to a player, eg Benrahma or Paqueta, you just go on and on and on and on and on about it. Looks like you're gearing up to do the same with Phillips. At least this one will only be for a few months."
