Potter Graham Potter

https://www.whufc.com/news/graham-potte ... head-coach

In the past he's favoured a 3-4-3 formation...hard to see how we can do that currently with only 3 senior CBs, one of whom is injured. He's also played wingers (Solly March as an example) in the wing back roles.

Typically when a 3-4-3 gets announced on a match day the manager is immediately described as being too negative, too cautious etc. I guess it depends on the composition of the 4.

He's given young players chances...hopefully that continues at West Ham.

Welcome Graham.

Did you realise that Cresswell and Scarles came on at the same time?
Was talking about the Villa game. Scarles started and came off for Cresswell. Big decision to make but Potter must have liked what he saw despite little time.

I have always disagreed about giving a player time because of their age or they have come from a foreign country even more so if they have cost 25 million.

our squad is in a mess despite spending all that money in the summer. I thought signing the player for that money was bonkers at the time when he had Bowen and Kudus infront of him and I still think it is the case now.

It's laughable writing off an 18 year old one one bit-part performance.

I prefer to trust Potter's judgement, who stuck him on because he obviously has seen that the boy has potential.

The only issue is that we're not a club who have typically, in the past, spent that kind of money on a player for 1-2 maybe even 3 years down the line as it's too big a chunk of our overall budget and there was enough work to do on the team for this season.

But he's here now, rightly or wrongly, and I for one will give him plenty of time to adapt, develop and prove himself.

Club spending 25 million on a player I expect them to be a decent addition to the squad right away. Since when have we been able to spend that amount of money on a player and give them a couple of years to come good?

When Sunderland sell Jobe Bellingham (same age) for the amount of money we bought this kid for as a comparison you can start to grasp how poor a signing this lad is going to be.

Risky having an opinion like that on here Ferret. Triggers a few people.
you've got to be a proper clueless prat to be writing off an eighteen year old that's only had a few minutes for the first team, and only been seen by the new manager for about two and a half days

Does this mean we're writing off Casey also, seeing as he never got on?

We had no wingers playing yesterday apart from Kudus upfront and he still did not get on.

Lopetegui did not play him either.

He's not going to make the grade.
Guilherme will become a very good player for us.

Potter is the perfect manager for him.

No, but when you are starting 5 cms and playing a winger upfront. The only other winger stays on the bench and does not play a single minute. The old manager barely played him either.

I don't want players to feature who aren't deemed good enough and its looking like 25m for the young Brazilian is going to be a Savio mk II.
Great, you want an 18 year old assessed in a few days and thrown in to a game we won, as he wasn't, its clear the manager doesn't rate him...

Idiot.

Like seeing him in our dug out.

What a mess of a squad he has inherited though. Hard to believe how much money we have spent.

4 attacking players out and the likes of Ings and the young Brazilian still cant get a start.

The Brazilian did not even get on the pitch last night. he cant fancy him at all. 25m! Madness!

Potter has got his work cut out and will have to sail choppy waters.

Fingers crossed!
But first half l, were Villa so bad because we were so good? It's rare both teams play well when part of the job is to stop the other team playing.

Kudus will need decent service though and is not Antonio. Cannot just hit long diagonals or straight balls for him to run onto using his strength. Kudus has speed and is strong but not a bulldozer type like Antonio.  But has to do better than Ings surely?  He can run into space well and is good on the half turn with a ball into feet. Alternatively a ball to his chest and unlike Antonio he might get a free kick when CBs blatantly slam into the back of him?  Not confident that he can finish but again cannot be any worse than Antonio was.

Anyway, hoping it will be a huge success if tried.   Of course with Summerville out it might not even happen as who will play wide left? Would Guilherme be ready to start wide right? He has not pulled up too many trees in brief  cameo appearances but did hit a post in one game.

Whats for sure is that Moyes really left the squad in a shocking state. Adding 8 outfield players and one 3rd choice goalkeeper was not enough to plug the gap in quality as its always likely that a few transfers dont fit.

Why do you hate Ings so much? He has never, ever let us down. Is it his wages that make you hate him?
