Until West Ham find out mojo again, a game against a David Moyes managed side will always have some kind of extra significance.
Layer on the pressure on Potter who looks like a dead man walking, and this game is under intense scrutiny.
It looks for all the world like Potter has two games, not to save his job, but to buy a stay if execution, against Everton and Arsenal, made none the easier by these two being amongst the best set piece side in the league....the Hammers clear achilles heel.
The stats this far have backed up the eye test...West Ham ARE terrible at defending the box, none of the keepers help out on crosses, and we give up corners willy nilly.
But if Potter is to cling on, nothing but a win here will do.

Predicted LineUp:
With Everton's prowess at set pieces, Soucek's absence, and Potter's love to tinker, I expect him to fuck around with things and go to a back five.
Areola
Mavro. Kilman. Scarles
KWP. JWP. Diouf
Paqueta. Fernandes.
Bowen. Fullkrug.
Subs: Hermansen, Todibo, Igor, Irving, Potts, Magassa, Summerville, Guilherme, Wilson
Predicted Score:
Everton: 3
West Ham: 1 (Bowen)

Don't think we will see anything different for a few games , so a few youngsters on the bench and let's just go for it.
3-0 defeat, sorry.

That is all I wanted from a new manager
just so long as he doesn’t play Rodriguez in his place

Nuno binning JWP is no shock of course
Apart from seeing us a couple of weeks ago he has had one training session to pick a team & instruct them not knowing virtually all of them well if at all
Good luck !

ExWHU confirms on his PodCast JWP has been dropped from the squad, and isn't injured!

More I think about the timing of Potters sacking just when the players are about to take their last Training session before today's game it's fucking mental. Players ready to take their orders from their manager, only then within an hour or so in steps a new manager to take their session instead with no one knowing what the fuck is going on.
How not to run a Club Part 58382.

They obviously had some big 'reveal' in the canteen at rush green - dry ice, bubble machine etc and when Nuno stepped out, JWP picked up his golf clubs and fucked off.

Claret and Hugh reporting that Ward-Prowse hasn’t travelled to Merseyside
what a fucking result
my guess would be suffering from severe heartbreak
Someone said he's probably on a romantic getaway with Potter
I wouldn’t bet against it

Hoping Nuno goes for his usual 4 at the back approach today
Assuming he saw enough of JWP during his short loan spell at Forrest last season, so no need to waste time trying to flog that dead horse
First time in a few months that I'm a bit more optimistic going to a match day

Imo Paqueta is better deeper and ideally central. His best season was at Lyon as a number 8 and he can help out with defending.
AWB is still out along with the suspended Soucek I think. Im guessing he will try to use Fullkrug as a target man but will find out that he’s not a Chris Wood and not that physical in aerial duos. Will Marshall get some minutes?
Suspect Juno will pick Kilman though since he probably trusts him from their time at Wolves
I'm hoping he has Paqueta quartbacking the ball in for Summerville and Bowen to run onto behind the fullback, and then has Fullkrug arriving in the box facing goal to get on the end of crosses where he's effective.
He's not really a back to goal striker, and the CBs in the PL are generally pretty physical. But as a penalty box striker receiving service, as well as sometimes dropping in to combine (receive, release out wide, arrive in box later) I think he's more than serviceable.

I want to see Paqueta stay centrally in the pitch where he can always be involved in the game and being able to go both ways of the pitch instead of just 1 side of the pitch. I also think he's too much of a liability nearer our own end of the pitch and want him further up the field where he can do all his best work.
Re: Everton vs West Ham | PL | 29.7.25 | Predictions and Match Thread
My thinking is that Paqueta isn't quick enough to play on the break, but is very combatative and plays the long through ball excellently. Fernandes is the closest we have to MGW in terms of hard working and mobile attacking central player.
Think Paqueta plays this as the 'duel from deep, set the direct attack away' player. Fullkrug will play striker....is absolutely the nearest we have to a Woods or Jiminez style attacker.
JWP is MUCH better in possession than out of possession so can't see any works where he plays in a mid block, and Nuno has already seen him up close. Think if Soucek was available it would have been him, but without that, reckon it is either Magassa, Rodriguez, or Potts. But Nuno wanted Magassa in the Summer, so reckon he might get the nod initially.

Areola
Wan-Bissaka Mavropanos Kilman Diouf
Fernandes Ward-Prowse
Bowen Paqueta Summerville
Wilson
That would be my guess he might do.

OP has less of a clue than Potter or Lopetegui.
3-3-2-2
Has to be 4-2-3-1.
Nuno prefers it.
You know the OP wrote that when Potter was still in charge? And it was his prediction of what Potter will do (or in this case, would have done). He's probably right, although I very much doubt he'd have played Scarles at LCB with Todibo and Igor available.
Thanks. Todibo was out of favour (and had been sanctioned) and Scarles was not with the kids on Friday night...plus played left side CB in Pre-Season. Toss up between him and Julio.
Anyway, like you say that was all with Potter at the helm.
Find it VERY hard to predict what Nuno will do. He's played 3 at the back and 4 at the back a lot over his career. He also wanted all our better summer signings plus Summerville this summer.
Fancy for this game he might go 4-2-3-1
Something like:
Areola
Wan Bissaka (if fit). Mavropanos. Kilman. Diouf
Magassa. Paqueta
Bowen. Fernandes. Summerville
Fullkrug
But I think it will be all about who plays in the double pivot that defines us. Will Magassa start? Will Paqueta or Fernandes play deeper? Will Potts come in? Will he persist with JWP initially? Will he see Rodriguez as a fit given we'll be playing a double pivot mid block? All the questions in the team rest around that two for me. Looking forward to the game now, just to see what he does there.
