NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

"He deserved that contract, TM. A QB of limited talent, but who maximised his talent when playing for you. Good guy to have around the training ground. He'll mix it up a bit. You still need a starter."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"I'd be amazed if he left Seattle. But I would be unsurprised if he's going to use those comments to gain some additional leverage and influence over incoming (and outgoing) players. He's probably seen what Watson has done in Houston and thought he'd like to have what Watson's was offered: more input over his coaches and offensive players. You'll probably see a few QBs try this trick over the off-season now that Houston are having to bend over backwards to try to accommodate want-away Watson. That's why what happens in Houston is going to be important across the rest of the league. Watson has the second biggest NFL contract in history - and he's saying it is still not enough. QBs are beginning to realise that they are so important to their franchises that they can demand more (even if those things are not about salary). This could end badly for those sides that get their response wrong, either way."

Is russell wilson on his way out of Seattle? Very unlikely but some very passive aggressive comments about being unhappy with the team building and how many hits and sacks he's taken.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Lee Trundle 2:23 Mon Feb 8 I thought that was a nailed on PI on first viewing but he definitely took a dive. I'm not used to seeing dives like that in the NFL. The other egregious call was the Tyrann Mathieu interception where that called a hold. That was an absolute joke. That being said, his attempt to imply Brady has said something unacceptable in polite society, was worse than the call by some stretch. As for next year. Wentz is out the door any day now. Probably to the Bears or the Colts. He remains a very good QB with a lot of upside. If he goes to the Colts, they could be a serious team next year. Wentz had no protection and limited weapons this year, with the Colts O Line, he could get back to his considerable best"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"El Scorchio 1:20 Mon Feb 8 Spot on. The game is most often won in the trenches. You can have all the explosive playmakers you want, but if you can't give your QB time to find them, or create space for your running back, you are rarely going to win a match. Last night was a toxic mic of a god-awful offensive line trying failing to hold back a very effective pass rush. The game was won the moment the Chiefs realised they had no response. Those KC guards were stand-ins, but they were very poor stand-ins. Like, ""didn't make a block all night""ù poor..."

"I was more disgusted with the blatant dive that Evans did on that call, which resulted in the PI. He went down a few steps from the minimal contact when it became obvious he wasn't going to get to the ball."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Can someone explain to me how tripping over the feet of someone ahead of you in a footrace for the ball results in a penalty in favour of the bloke who falls over?

"Some of the officiating was slightly questionable (which I brought up loads of time when everyone thought bringing in VAR would be great), but it wouldn't have changed the outcome."

Scorch... 11 pens and 120 yards... Flunked punts... Mathieu losing the plot... I'd say the Bucs won absolutely every mind game that was out on the field...

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"It's a great example of how line play is so important- which most people really underestimate. Anything they were able to do, Mahomes had to do for himself with his feet to create space to throw. He never had the time to get himself set all night because they were on him inside a couple of seconds and he had to take off before a pocket could even form. Even with his skill set, you can't throw on the run all night. They couldn't open up any holes for runners either because of the two backup guards. You can have all the skill players in the world but if your line can't give you time and opportunity to get the ball to them, then you've got basically no chance. And they were up against one of if not the best defence in the game last night."

You've got to be pretty gutted if you're a Chiefs fan. I know they had injuries but to not even score a touchdown is a bit ridiculous for them.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
It wasn't mental. It was simply a mismatch in talent on the lines. The Chiefs had to send out reserves against one of the best defences in the game due to injuries. You've no hope of moving the ball if your linemen can't pass block or run block. There were bucs defenders running clean through them all night. When your offense can't stay on the field your defends gets tired out quick and then it's over.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
What do they stay about successful sport... 90% mental 10% physical?? Bucs got into the Chiefs heads and they just self imploded... intriguing to see... enjoyed the game and it was worth the 3 hours of kip just to see Brady do his stuff... quite a remarkable athlete...

"And Bieniemy must have just walked himself out of any HC post this off-season. I generally rate him, but he needed to deliver a line for Reid last night and he failed. They had injuries, of course, but that lack of adjustment to accommodate that...lost them the game."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Reid must have been furious. His o-line was god-awful and his secondary gave away a field's worth of pass interference calls at crucial times. The Chiefs didn't turn up, mentally. The first thing they need to do in free agency or the draft, is find some solidity and depth at guard. If you insist on 3WR sets with a catching TE like Kelce, you have to have guards who can pass block, or your tackles get overwhelmed (like last night). Most guards are primarily run-creators. But Kansas don't really run the ball. Reid knows this. They'll be back."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Yeah, the TO made no sense. Given what Brady did in the game against Rodgers, surely you'd run the clock down and take even a fiend goal against you at worst. I can only think that the Chiefs were so disorganised at that point, that they risked having 12 men on the pitch at the next snap? For defending champions, and a team that is generally very good, the Chiefs were a complete, disorganised shit-show last night. One of the worst performances by an offensive line I've ever seen...and I saw the Butt Fumble for gods sake!"

"I had to turn it off at HT. that time out call by Reid with less than a minute to go in the half was one of the worst I've ever seen. still haven't got a fucking clue why he did it, but that was the game right there. all I can say is our job gave the Bucs their hardest game in the playoffs, so it's the only positive I can take out of that shitshow last night"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"In fact, you now see why we're not yet getting too carried away about Saleh as HC: we've seen very good defensive minds come to NYC before now. Talented people like Bowles and Ryan couldn't move the football. It's very different when you're ultimately responsible for both sides of the ball."
