May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

If we can extract good value from players or cash+players then yes, but we have to be very wary of not just doing them a favour by giving away our biggest asset in exchange for helping them get shit off their books. We also have to be very wary of what wages these players are on. You get three players maybe, but they could all be on 100k a week and suddenly the wage bill is massive. I'd prefer to take all the money and invest it in players at smaller clubs on the continent for a lot more value but if Chelsea play hard ball (why is it us that ends up in these silly situations where a player and club in unison can hold us to ransom) we have to at least get the player(s) that suit us and we actually need, rather than taking what Chelsea don't want. We have to have the balls to walk away if any deal is not right for us. More than likely they'll come back with a better deal for us if they really want him.

That's the sort of strategy we should be pursuing. Completely agree. Loads of value clearly floating around in a lot of the European leagues provided you can spot the talent successfully. It's been a rich hunting ground for loads of others.

BFS and Moyes managed to negotiate the Sullivan ego more than most - the former because like Sullivan he has bathed in all the waters and knows how to be a cսnt. Moyes was more out of some sort of religious conviction that he wasn't letting someone like that get him down. To be honest I think his respect was for David Gold and to a lesser extent Brady rather than the diminutive one. Plus, he was a stubborn old school Scottish goat so that can get him through most things thrown across his path.

Avram Grant just smelt of something dodgy...In hindsight I think his remit was to take the club down so they could clear the decks and start again.

Yesterday Bournemouth signed Adrien Truffert a French left back with over 200 league games under his belt and he is 24 in November. That should be the type of signing our club make - an upgrade on Emerson for just £11 Million plus £3M in bonuses. Yes, he's the kind of player you find on the football manager PC game but then so are the players that the BBB (Bournemouth Brentford, Brighton) keep signing and it regularly works for them. That PC game is pure fantasy but what most fail to realise is it has a very sophisticated database that is basically a defacto Transfermarkt.

Even Palace are a far more attractive option these days than us and I never thought that would ever come to pass. It's finally happened though! Who's fault is that?

Our owners will never do the homework and put in the hours themselves - practically every signing they make will always be the dregs at the bottom of an agent's spreadsheet.

It's the same old regurgitated arse gravy.

One of the reasons Potters last 6 months have been so depressing is that our league position attracts good players for less money. It’s why Sullivan position on not firing managers when it’s obvious they are failing, is so weird. We couldn’t get a Kudus now. We just don’t look like a club that could further the ambitions of a decent player.

I fear that Potter has sold Sullivan on the concept of him bringing in average players and forgetting about anything that is anywhere near world class. We will sell anyone that is a high level player. I feel like he’s told the board they are uncoachable and that’s why we are where we are.

I personally don’t believe you can do well in this league without a handful of exceptional players in your club. It’s just too hard a a league to get through on just hard work and organisation. You need some magic. Not sure where we’ll get that from now.

If anything he'll have sold Sullivan on the Brighton model. Great talent spotting and bringing in young 'unknowns' then selling them on for a big profit, investing it in the next few 'unknowns' so you get a nice conveyer belt. That's a great sustainable strategy if you can spot the talent well enough and have the balls to believe in it and invest in it. It's also not a short term approach. Trouble with Sullivan is he seems to only understand short term thinking. it needs to at least shift to a hybrid at first. The 'unknowns' can take a year or two to be ready and that doesn't sit well with him. Remember all the knicker wetting from the board about LG as a means to get Stiedten out.

I don't think Potter wants to bring in average players at all. I think he wants to mimic how it's done at Brighton and Bournemouth etc. and produce a cost effective sustainable setup. Buy them cheap and young, develop them into really effective players. Sullivan probably LOVED the sound of it but as ever gets cold feet when it's time to put money down. All he understands is 'proven track record' which means going for an Ings and a Ward Prowse and a Kilman and a Zouma. He'll just keep cutting Potter- or anyone else for that matter- off at the knees when he sees 10 mill on some South American or African kid who have massive potential as a risk too big to take, while being totally happy to give 100k a week to a journeyman who has 6-7 years experience but absolutely no future value but a thumbs up from one of his 'mates'. That's why our squad is in this horrible mess. Half arsing over everything and never committing to anything or anyone. He hasn't committed fully to a single manager since he's owned the club. He's given them some pieces they want but lumbered them equally with pieces they didn't want, or just swerved it and not signed anyone using any old excuse.

We are in a woeful state in the boardroom and it all cascades down from there. No doubt paralysed by this ridiculous situation and apparent Mexican standoff with the shareholders. Clearly no-one wants the Gold's shares in the current climate and Sullivan doesn't need them to retain control. He must be smirking to himself in private. Only Kretinsky buying Gold's shares can threaten him, unless someone came in and bought Kretinsky AND Gold's shares. Ain't going to happen though,

The best thing to happen to this club would be for Sullivan to cut ties with Barry Silkman and Will Salthouse.

My concern is when Sullivan does go, his sons are party pals with Salthouse, so that influence is just going to carry on.
