"Taking to Twitter, the Italy international wrote: “Dear West Ham. “While my time in London didn’t go the way I had planned, some of my greatest life moments were made here. And for that I’m forever grateful Thank you to the players and staff for making me feel so welcome, and the fans for their continued support. “I will continue to support this fantastic club from home in Italy, and will be keeping in close touch with the lifelong friends I have made whilst in England Thank you for everything, Ciao.”"

"Hammer and Pickle 1:31 Sun Aug 7 Judging by a lot of the posts below, much of the optimism is of the Victor Meldrew variety. Believe it."

"We all know Moyes is not going to start him and when he does, he’ll be out on the wing. Only question is whether there will be any optimism left by then."

"This suggests to me that he was a 'gift', not watched 400 times, dithered over for 18 months and called Lombard Decided he did not want him but got him anyway, smiled politely and will be tucked at the bottom of the draw like a pair of Christmas Simpsons socks from Great Uncle Sully You can just imagine him eventually being brought on, 3-0 down with 10 minutes to go and stuffed out on the wing Moyes is a bombastic cսnt and giving me the pip"

There’s something about this signing that says there are a couple of players of a certain skill set that need to be signed….hope I’m wrong though…but the longer the excuses go on….

"He couldn’t have got 15 minutes last week against the frogs, but looked like Moyes bottled it for whatever reason. The longer he does leave it, the more the spotlight will be on him when he does get a look in."

Moyes is a dithering cսnt at the best of times but this is ridiculous.

Surely he will get at least 20 mins from the bench today… he’s a full Italian international striker not a youth team prospect.

"Seeing someone type ""in Moyes we trust to know the right thing to do"" over our striker situation and being serious about it is proper LOL."

"Given the number of subs on the bench .... 9 now isnt it? ,,,, surely he can sit there & maybe give 10-15mins at the end? Surprised he wasnt taken to Lens to do something similar Presumably they are playing training games with the squad or how exactly does he get 'match fit'?"

Being STILL our only natural striker at the club he’s going to be under immense pressure like Haller was and he couldn’t fit in. Like Haller his time with us could be over quick sharp if he isn’t managed and introduced in the right manner…..in Moyes we trust to know the right thing to do….hopefully it’s chuck him in the deep end…

Maybe loan him out for a year to get some minutes under his belt.

I presume he has kept himself in good physical condition as a top professional footballer. Just lacking match fitness? how would he get same?

Bowen scored on his debut too. Let’s hope this fella hits the ground running when he does get a start.

"Bowen signed for West Ham on 31st January, Bowens first league start was against Southampton on the 29th February."

"Just play the guy. Off the bench, first hour. Whatever. He may not be 100% fit, I get that. But as somebody said further down: we spent £35m on him and this aspect of his fitness is not rocket science. He needs to play. He won’t get 100% fit sitting on his hands or ‘just’ training. This is where the “modern” approach to football/conditioning sometimes backfires. When all is said and done, he needs minutes on the pitch in top-level games. And, for once, we have the luxury of having two strikers we can share minutes with (ooh, look at us getting all proper football club…)"

"Haaland, Nunez etc all played pre season games. Scamacca played none, not even for his previous club. It ain't rocket science why he's not quite match fit yet. As for Moyes' ""form"" for taking his time blooding in players he didn't do that with Lingard, Soucek, Coufal, Zouma or Bowen. The only ones he's done it with who weren't clearly bought as backup were Benrahma and Vlasic, and when you see them play you can see why Moyes was apprehensive about starting them."

"Really not liking hearing this stuff about getting him “ready” when you see the likes of Haaland, Nunez etc getting started pretty much right away, Moyes does have form for this and taking his time with players when throwing them in maybe the better option, expect he will be chomping at the bit and would be no disgrace if he was scoreless or has few chances against one of the best sides in world football, if anything will give him the right mindset to deal with the PL. As much as I like Antonio and this lad by all accounts is match fit, why the fuck to we need to ease him in, if not a start then off the bench once Antonio starts blowing which will be around the 6o min mark."

"One to watch: Vishnu: Gianluca Scamacca – Other than Haaland and Nunez, Scamacca was probably the best young striker on the market. He’s rugged, aggressive, physical, but also surprisingly skilful. West Ham is an ideal fit for him, and he’ll be a fascinating watch all year. https://thefootballfaithful.com/football-faithful-writers-premier-league-predictions-2022-23/"
