Well, it's the last game of 2025 in a year that few will look back on with favour or fondness. Wrapping it up are bogey-side Brighton, who after a last minute outrageous goal in the away fixture cost us a vital victory, will fancy themselves (doesn't everyone) heading to the London Stadium.
It's another of those must win games for West Ham, and if the recovery doesn't actually commence at some point, we're fucked.
There's been no press conference for this game, so not much to report on player availability wise. Fullkrug is training with Milan already so he's not available. Guilherme seems to have been ostracised for some reason despite a moderatly promising last cameo against Liverpool. And Igor it would appear it's been decided isn't up to task. Diouf and Wan Bissaka remain at the AFCON tournament.
Predicted Line Up:
Brighton play with a large number of overloads on the ball, and last time out we shifted to a back three quite successfully, so I'd expect to see something similar again in this game (just to get the natives uber-restless when the defensive looking lineup is announced):
Areola
Mavropanos Kilman Todibo
Walker Peters Fernandes Potts Scarles
Paqueta
Bowen Summerville
Subs: Hermansen, Myers, Golambeckis, Kante, Rodriguez, Magassa, Earthy, Soucek, Wilson
Predicted Result:
It is all starting to feel a bit last chance saloon for West Ham, despite the season still having over half left to run! Lose this game and all hope will feel lost. Brighton though seem to be missing some key players, and this presents us a chance at least. Brighton created almost nothing against us in the first game so I expect that gameplan and pattern to largely repeat...with the outcome to be decided on the basis of how well our Maginot Line holds up to late pressure when Brighton come on strong.
Score: West Ham 1 - 0 Brighton (Bowen)

Don't be giving Nuno any ideas, he already went down that route.
I think Scarles will be alright after his fuck up. Might even do him a bit of good to sharpen him up a bit by going through that moment, as long as he learns from it.

Don't want to see Paqueta anywhere near the side tonight. Brighton are a good footballing side, we need to keep and use the ball well. Which means Paqueta needs to be on the bench and not giving the ball away 15 times.
Think i see he managed 21 against Fulham!!!
Was it that low? Surprising.

Surely at least 1 of those useless wankers Sumemrville or Paqueta will manage a goal or assist tonight for all their supposed talent. They should be embarrassed.
The only time Nuno has ever seen either of them produce something, other than 1 goal against Newcastle from Paqueta, is when they both played against Nuno's Forest side when he knew he was soon out the door anyway when he effectively downed tools 16 games ago.
I' hope Jimmy can get something to lift the cloud over him. A little bit of conference and I think a different player emerges.
The soon Paqcunta is gone, the better.

Same side but Wilson in for Paq and Mavro in for Kilman.
Big night for Scarles. Summerville needs a goal or assist, also give him longer than 53 mins or whatever it was.
Can he also not have 3 centre backs on the bench 2 of which are kids and no fucking attackers sitting there for when we are 2-0 down?

Same side except Wilson for Paqueta.
Yep, he's going to do another desperate last ditch roll of the dice by going against his principles in leaving Wilson on the bench and instead starting him in a must win game just like he did to save his bacon against Newcastle.

Heroic 1-0 defeat, last minute winner from Rutter.

Not sure about the Maginot line being the key. We need to score goals. Fuck it all throw caution to the wind and start with our only true aging striker! Yes, crazy, START WITH A STRIKER!
Not an excellent right sided attacker, playing slightly out of position as a striker.
Areola
Walker Peters, Mavropanos, Todibo, Scarles
Fernandes, Paqueta, Potts
Bowen, Wilson, Summerville

The one saving grace is Brighton are equally in poor form and have lost their way of late. That could help make a real difference in getting a result. We cannot rely on ourselves anymore under this twat, so hoping for a stinker from Brighton.

Oh forgot to mention, I have a feeling Nuno will do the unthinkable today, under the “squad rotation” claim because of so many games close together, and start one or both Soucek or Guido in midfield. That should extinguish any hope for the optimists and as Thunder ssys, the evidence suggests Kilman will continue ( Mavro was harshly dropped for his unfortunate OG against Villa ), Scarles will start and struggle against the pace of Minteh, Danny Welbeck will score against Kilman and Paqueta will lose possession more than the chances he creates. Oh Wilson will start though but be starved of service

Scorch I tip my hat to you for hanging in there. Im resigned to relegation. The bookies are rarely wrong either. Although I foresee another close game, our lack of goalscorers is the most immediate issue. We won a couple of games a long while back and relied on Soucek to come up with goals. Bowen has to be perfect every game and score which is impossible.
Some wont give up until mathematically impossible and I honestly really respect that. I can be categorised under “coward” or “not a real fan” but some who are imo im denial but after 65 years watching Im ok with championship or below even. Like many my roots are family and history with my mob all based in Plaistow and later Dagenham etc. Me old grandad went to the White Horse final and warned us all that West Ham will always ultimately let you down.
Ive preficted a defeat simply because, although weve improved, nothing is going our way now. We didnt deserve to lose the last 2 home games but as mentioned our squad options are zero really and we dont score enough and cannot keep a clean sheet. A sure fire recipe for disaster. The best we might get today is a draw and that will feel like a defeat too. Never mind its West Ham for life so we carry on regardless
Trying to remain optimistic while there’s still time for it to turn around, but I agree it’s fucking bleak. The only way out of it is heavy investment in the transfer market starting on Friday morning. You’re dead right that we are so weak as an attacking force it’s imperative we have two players in ASAP, a striker and a left sided forward. I just don’t have faith that Sullivan is willing or able to do what’s needed without meddling or half measures. The summer business up to Fernandes coming in, when we all knew we were in trouble anyway, was criminal.
The key thing you pointed out also not going in our favour is old fashioned luck. Those little things going against us. Late equalisers or winners for the oppo, questionable officiating, hallmarks of what happens to a team destined for the drop and it seems very likely to continue that way unless we flip the narrative and bring some major new blood in. We HAVE improved undoubtedly but it’s not enough. We need things to start going in our favour and sharpish.

We should've beat this mob the other week. They ain't anything special.
Melanin Moyes and his defeatist tactics will cost us 2 points though.
1-1

Blind faith defying all logic home win, just because it has to be one. We had this lot away before being robbed of two points.
Desperately need to end this year on a high followed by some day one activity in the transfer market.
