West Ham United is delighted to confirm the signing of England midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season. The 28-year-old joins the Hammers from Manchester City and could make his debut in Thursday’s Premier League fixture with AFC Bournemouth at London Stadium.

"Sir Alf - we all like a good obsession to keep us amused on here. Who can forget fordstar on Noble, Vexed on Rice, daveyg on Masuaku, COYI on Benrahma? Some justified, some not. Thing is, you're pretty much bang on when it comes to Potato Salad. Most of us are not far behind you."

Leroy's - that's just Moyes keeping his cards close to his chest. I promise you he will start.

It can only be Lingard he's ever started for the next game after signing him?

"Its true Scorch, my obsession has progressed into foow blown insanity. An intervention is needed. Get me into some leg irons, deep sea divers boots and a piano on my back and feed me a diet consisting exclusively of potatoe salad. I can start to have empathy for what it must be like to be Tommy ;-)"

"Yeah, Ings was a mental one. Even at the time unanimously we were all 'what the fuck?' Real silly deal, especially on that money for a player that really doesn't suit us in any way."

"We don't help ourselves with this nonsense, because we should never have paid Ings that much. Now we might be stuck with him."

"It's possible we're saying ""no"" to offers for Ings that don't really help us offset his huge wages, though. Unfortunately, Wolves and Palace aren't stupid enough to pay him what we do - or even close to it. I think people felt they had their fingers burnt over deals like the sale of Downing to Middlesbrough, which left us forking the bill for a big chunk of his wages for years afterwards."

Watched the Ironscast podcast with Ginge that other bloke and Phillips and whilst Phillips seems a personable chap I felt a bit sorry for him with all this fanfare and the crossed hammers thing which is getting a bit annoying now. Can understand it with a new permanent signing but feels a tad uncomfortable with a loan who might only be here 4 months!

Phillips has allegedly been showing a great attitude. Both he and Alvarez now clean Soucek’s boots and make up his potatoe salad every day. Their mentor Tommy appreciates their support and is taking time out in training for one on one sessions where he shows them skills and technique like the “ale house ball” where you hoof it as hard and high as humanly possible in any direction. Other drills include how to run around and shadow the opposition without getting too near. How to point and give marking directions to other players as the ball passes by. The art of the deceptive run where you are actually slower than you look. Air passing which is 100% accuracy passing stats without the ball. how to clear with your head from set pieces. And of course how to play for safety by shanking passes into touch.

If he is brought in for Alvarez then there should be as many protests as possible. Anything to get the dinosaur out. That would be the final nail for me. It would prove he is allowing personal feelings towards Steidten to get in the way of football. Rumours are he will be doing this but we shall see.

Will he take over from Paqueta on the left wing?

Sydney iron He scored for city in the CL in December I presumed (wrongly it would appear ) that having played in one European competition for one side that would rule him out of playing for us in another. I need to acquaint myself with the up to date rulebook I I

I think he will be an excellent signing IF Soucek is benched. Brought into replace Paqueta.

"Not saying you're wrong Gary, but i haven't seen anything about Philips being ineligible for the Europa? You have a source for that?"

I don't get this move to be honest. He has played in the CL for City this season so will be unavailable for us in the Europa. He won't be able to play against his parent club either and we are paying his full wages plus a loan fee. He is 28 years of age and plays in a position that In is my opinion isn't our main priority to strengthen. City were after Paqueta before betgate and I can't help thinking this could be a potential makeweight should the deal be resurrected come the summer.
