The term 'must win' is often used in circumstances where it's not quite true.  Is Forest at home a must win game?  Maybe, maybe not.  But 100% it's a must not lose game.  A win puts us within touching distance of a Forest side in the aftermath of their own little managerial change honeymoon period.  A loss....and 17th place starts to look a very long way away indeed.

We go into this game with some comings and goings in the squad.  Luis Guilherme has departed for Sporting.  Callum Wilson is negotiating an exit (no doubt he sees the writing on the wall with two striker signings coming in, and the 6k basic he's on starting to look like all he'll be getting most weeks).  Pablo and Taty Castellano are now in and training with the squad, and both seemingly well known or attacking their duels and fighting hard....and my word do we need some of that.

There's been no news surrounding Todibo and Paqueta for this one.  Paqueta's being a back injury, it's feasible a spasm could have subsided with some intensive physio...but with Todibo's being a groin injury, that feels less likely to make a swift disappearance with the usual sources reporting he needed a scan, but no outcomes.

And then there is the aftermath of the Wolves debacle.  Potts and Magassa got hooked at half time.  Soucek came in and looked slow but competent.  Wilson played 90 mins and is still currently here.  Myers came on and looked a million miles better than either of the other CB proponents...but surely we won't get a start as one of a back two?!  Plus there's the two new guys. The starting line up is suddenly anyone's guess.

Predicted Line Up:

But guess I will.  This is my hunch as to what Nuno will go for:
Areola

KWP  Mavropanos  Kilman  Scarles

Soucek   Potts

Bowen   Castellanos   Fernandes

Pablo
Subs: Hermansen, Igor, Myers, Magassa, Kante, Rodriguez, Sumerville, Paqueta, Wilson

If Paqueta is fit to start, I expect Taty to move up top, Paqueta to come in on the left, and Pablo to sit on the bench.  Mavropanos and Kilman seem likely to continue their Keystone Cops impression, mostly for lack of alternatives, with Igor clearly not rated, Myers thought more of as a fullback or wide in a 3 (he's not very physically imposing yet) and Todibo likely still out.  Lastly I suspect Magassa will be made scapegoat, with Potts getting some nepo treatment (although he's been poor of late) and Soucek coming in for some 'old stager presence' and 'leadership' in the middle of the park.

Predicted Score:

After that last result, it feels impossible to predict a win.  Forest will low-block us, and have pace to burn on the flanks.  Something we clearly struggle with, but with both teams no doubt considering a defeat more damaging than anything else, I expect a cagey affair that ends in stalemate.

West Ham 1 - 1 Nottingham Forest

Is a point enough to save Nuno?  Or is 50m spent on a couple of strikers the real saving grace for the bald Portugeezer?  Time will tell.  He likely doesn't care either way.

COYI.

Not sure about Soucek over Magassa, but at least we have someone who can win a header.

At least he has dropped Kilman.  Can't over grumble with Potts and Magassa dropping to the bench, they haven't been firing last couple of games.  Hoping Tomas has something to prove.

Looks like he's going for it.

Castellanos, Paqueta, Todibo all to start, with a late decision on Pablo Vs Summerville.

Magassa and Potts to drop to the bench. Soucek and Fernandes to anchor midfield.

You think he'll even play??

Doubt it with his broken relationship with Nuno but he should. He is still our best Premier League Striker currently on the books.

Well here we are, a few hours until kick off and I am just finishing off some work finance report watching my smart meter tick over like money does not exist as it is bloody freezing and the heating is on full blast. The one consolation is I am not en route to the cesspit!

When you are toying with watching Coronation Street ahead of the football you know the interest has been sapped from your body but no doubt I will end up watching the whole game and be put through more painful viewing.

I don;t think it is the midfield or up top (if crackhead plays the new signings) that is the problem, I just wprry about Forest' pace and our donkey defence. This game could be anything results wise.

Anyway, over to you West Ham

I think both teams will rightly be nervous. Forest are on a shit run of form and ginger bollocks will set them up not to lose. That may or may not go in our favour. What won't go in our favour is that they will be looking to get throw-in's, corners and free-kicks in and around our box as, I think this will give their defensive style best chance to score. That means Kilman cannot play as he cannot defend crosses and high balls.

It will be cagey and its going to take a moment or two of class to make the difference. For whatever reasons i think that will come from Paqueta and one of the new guys.

My heart says a win and my head says 2-0 West Ham.

I know. I am mental.

I worry about tonights match. Nuno must have told the players that 99% were up for sale before the Wolves game. God knows what type of performance we are going to get in yet another must win game....

Forest Gate, Soucek caresvand we resoect him for that,  but that wont unfortunately compensate for his lack of agility and speed. An impact sub in an attacking role should be his only use.  Whenever, he or Guido come on, we look even worse usually ( Wolves was the exception admittedly but the bar was so low that for once Soucek in midfield didnt weaken us although we should  remember we had a back 5  2nd half which was mostly what kept the score down as well as Wolves knowing they didnt need to chase the game and just manage it for a comfortable win).

I have a feeling this will be Soucek’s night (I know, I know). We haven’t exactly been great with the more skilful players who’ve replaced him. It would be good to have someone on the pitch who actually cares.

I can't see where a win is coming from. We have a useless central defence in every combination and even when we are in front we revert to Moyesball which gives any opposition a boost of confidence via possession. The remainder of the game is then played out in and around our box making equalisers and late winners inevitable. We are dans merde ruisseau sans une pagaie, as they probably don't say in France. We are 99% certs to qualify for next years Championship. So just sit back and enjoy the ride; no need to expend any anxiety on the outcome. Being optimistic I'll say a draw with them equalising in the last minute of time added on, assisted by poor defending by Kilman.

El Scorchio - I know what you mean.  If they do get rid of Wislon as well they deserve everything they get.  I didn't want Wilson in the first place but whislt he hasn't exactly set the world alight I think he has done ok when he has played with the scraps on offer.  With two unproven strikers I have never heard of, and in all honesty I am not overconfident looking at their stats, it would be madness to let Wilson go, especially with our track record with strikers.  I doubt these guys are Hartson and Kitson, and if they are it will probably be the overweight one and the permanently injured one!  Was watching one of the podcasts last night and it was suggested that Nuno fancies Bowen as a striker "ahead" of Wilson.  Now ok Bowen can play there, albeit not over effectively, but it leaves a gaping hole on the right where he is effective.  It wouldn't surprise me if Nuno goes and buys a second rate right winger so Bown can play up top.  Maybe that's where the Traore rumours come from, not to covert into a striker, a';la Arnautovic and Antonio but as a right winger pushing Bowen to where he is less effective.  Just baffles me the stupidity.
