General Election - July 2024

Post twoleftfeet »

This appears to be the rumour on Sky. An easy win for Starmer and some big names losing their seats. The Country needs a change but is it going to get one? The thought of seeing that annoying Beth Rigby for 6 weeks though is a horrifying thought.

"Looks like The Peoples Republic of Jockland Party, have done as bad as the Tories, in percentage terms of seats lost. I'm expecting Comma to post shortly bemoaning that Labour have won their massive victory, with well less then half the votes cast."

Are the Tory faithful getting the Molotov cocktails and balaclavas ready to go protest this election result. Or is that a French version of Democracy when you lose?

"Immigration is in such a state that even Labour are saying there's too much of it and are pledging to send people back: https://labourlist.org/2024/06/labour-party-immigration-policy-manifesto-net-migration/ Cynical ploy for votes? Maybe. But for fucking LABOUR to be talking about immigration in a way that only UKIP and the BNP were until not long ago is quite something. Anyway this election isn't a 2-horse race anymore, probably not even 3. A lot of proper lefties are going WPB (largely because of Palestine) and wouldn't be surprised if Muslims follow suit. Anecdotal I know but living in a traditional northern Labour heartland, almost no one actually seems to be voting for them. No one male anyway. Almost every bloke under about 50, even if they've voted Labour all their life, has said they're voting Reform. Immigration is a big part of it but another reason is they all fucking hate Starmer and see him as a Tory. Wouldn't be surprising if there's a huge divide by gender this election, with Labour being the party of women and gays. As for the Tories.... on socials, almost no one seems to be voting for them either. Is anyone on here under about 60 gonna vote for them?"

"Ha, Immigration the biggest threat to this country?! That's some idiotic shit. Bottom rung thinking from little Englanders. Have we forgotten there's a poverty crisis then? Did we temporarily mislay the fact we have no industry in this country anymore and are reliant on importing basically everything? Did we miss that our currency is devalued yearly by between 10-15% currently. Food banks are the only growth industry and the last time this country was cutting edge at something was the 1980s and that was fuckng AIDS. Did you forget that all you ""waaaah immigration"" Farage cock swallowing uneducated fucks voted for all this? We have a fucking ageing idiotic population and we're getting the politics we deserve because of you 'read the headline only' types who only take from society much like them boat people you despise - the difference being most of the cunts on the boats will have a fucking skill at least and probably be marginally better groomed even after a ten day voyage crammed inside another cunts arsehole. Dont matter what you vote tonight, it's turkeys voting for Christmas whichever way it falls and we fucking deserve it, we have collectively failed the intelligence test."

"""No need to get all hot and bothered about it son - just get on with life in the real world."" Yeah, no big deal being a minority. They absolute love being minorities and have no complaints. They feel secure, represented and not as the mercy of discrimination. Just ask minorities themselves. Maybe start by asking some Jews how much fun it is. Nothing to fret about. Relax."

"I haven't lived in the UK since the days of Blair and Brown, and they were pretty much 'conservative lite'. Do we see a return to hard left values in the UK under Starmer or is he just another no centrist political opportunist, which means nothing will really change meaningfully aside bragging rights?"

"The immigration you don't like, Edward, will be reduced to a fraction as soon as you are ready to satisfy the labour market demand or you can set up a business employing people at wages they expect. No government will ever change this unless it closes the borders and nationalises most of the economy, turning the country into a command economy and labour camp. No need to get all hot and bothered about it son - just get on with life in the real world."

I am sure some people do decide to work elsewhere in the world for more money but this statement that these people will up sticks and live in some boring place usually turns out to be hot air. As said people with settled family lives living in the greatest city in the world.... are they going to leave the country? I know bankers in that situation and from my experience their wives would cut their balls off if they suggested it

"You honestly think the current levels of legal and illegal immigration are sustainable, MPI? Do you know the figures over the last few years? It's millions. I know in your little quaint, well to do, honky filled seaside town it probably hasn't affected you, but stop being a dickhead about it. The levels have been fucking insane, and is without question the biggest problem this country is facing."
